I can't believe anyone is excited about this card. It is absolutely unplayable. I wouldn't even play her in LIMITED. Easily the worst walker printed since the green elf one. Absolutely terrible.
I was thinking the exact same thing but decided against saying something at first. One is 4 damage to a CREATURE only and the other is a various amount of damange to each OPPONENT (and never a creature). I'm like does every 3R 4/2 instantly get compared to FTK? Or is it just because it's ETB trigger is damage related?

Not to mention that it doesn't hit a creature, it hits a player. Yeah, not Flame Tongue Kavu.
Unless that "sac outlet" is Deadeye Navigator, it won't work. If the creature would be sent to the graveyard for any reason, it is exiled instead. No Ashen die trigger.
Good lord, you're right. I feel dumb. Sorry people I was condescending to a couple posts above.
Hey guys, let's exercise our close reading skills. Here's what I said in my post:
That whip is ABSURD, especially now that it has synergy with Ashen Rider. Wow. Whip + Rider + Sac outlet = exile a permanent, swing for 5 with evasion, then exile another permanent. For four mana.
Now let's extrapolate the relevant section.
Whip + Rider + Sac outlet
Do you see what I was saying? How about next time you read more carefully?
The exile clause of whip is a replacement effect, meaning it never "dies" as it never even thinks about going to the graveyard.
The whip exile triggers first and it's gone for good. The clause "if it would leave the battlefield, exile it instead", if memory serves, can NOT be gotten around through any means other than say a Stifle-esque effect that would counter the exile trigger.
10/1/2008 If a creature returned to the battlefield with unearth would leave the battlefield for any reason, it's exiled instead -- unless the spell or ability that's causing the creature to leave the battlefield is actually trying to exile it! In that case, it succeeds at exiling it. If it later returns the creature card to the battlefield (as Oblivion Ring or Flickerwisp might, for example), the creature card will return to the battlefield as a new object with no relation to its previous existence. The unearth effect will no longer apply to it.

Question: If you revive Ghost Daddy, can you exile him with his effect without sacking to the whip?
Yes. The ability still exiles Obzedat, so the Whip's effect is still satisfied, and it can return again as normal. This particular combo was included in the preview article, in fact.
(1) Black whip is awesome
(2) Boros Reckoner just became that much more nutters. I don't know how much more nutters it can get... t1 Cackler, t2 Ash Zelot, t3 reconker, t4 Flametongue Minotaur is rather awesome

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.

I love how everyone is going nuts over Fanatic of Mogis when Gray Merchant of Asphodel has an effect with twice as much life swing for only one (colored) mana more.

I because they are are assuming they can get higher red devotion than black when it comes out.
The play for mono black in my mind is:
Turn 1: Swamp, Rackdos cackler
Turn 2: Swamp, Shred Freak, swing for 4
Turn 3: Swamp, Lifebane Zombie, swing for 4
Turn 4: Swamp, Erebos, swing for 7
Turn 5: Swamp, Whip, swing for 12 lifelink
Obviously they will deal with one of your threats...there is a solid chance that turn 2 you will be swinging 4, and turn 4 your lifebane will probably go through...
Black also gives you access to so much removal...I mean, it seems like it really could be tier 1.5...
Unblockable, Lifelinking Aetherling is also disgusting.

Really happy about the new Minotaur and the Whip, could you imagine if it was only 1BB? be crazy.
so far mono red and mono black might be a thing post rotation. it looks like reckoner can only get better from here.
It's very mana intensive, and lifelink in and of itself doesn't win games.
4BBBB for a 1-turn reanimated anything + lifelink... it just seems like you could get more win for less mana than that.
I because they are are assuming they can get higher red devotion than black when it comes out.

It is because it is cheaper and because 4/2 > 2/4.
Merchant still seems like a potentially better card, though Red has Reckoner.

There's plenty of good black devotion cards. Rakdos Shred Freak, Nightveil Specter, and Dark Prophecy to name a few.
I guess this coming out a turn sooner and in a more aggressive color balances it out though.
