I'm not counting cards that are pretty much better then Llanowar Elves in most circumstances like Noble Hierarch (Not an Elf though).
Now granted there are a ton of Elves that tap for mana but not many cost G and tap for G with a 1/1 body. This post acts like Llanowar Elves is getting massive replacements like Grizzly Bears has gone through over the years.

Of all the recent spoilers and news this comes as a bit of disappointment. Nonbasic land hate is just mean on the back of a multicolour set where we all want to play dual lands. On top of that arbor elf already shelves to make way for an unnecessary llanowar elves reprint. It'll take more than a doom blade to make me happy now.
Um, maybe I'm just used to playing with Bolt since I first started playing the game, but why is everyone so excited about SHOCK?? I mean, really, all I see is a horrible, terrible, no-good, very bad spell, that SHOULD be bolt, IMO
Is it just too good with the snaps? even for just 3 months?
[btw, I started playing when Zendikar came out, so the first two years that I played standard we had bolt, everywhere. It never felt overpowered to me, so perhaps I just have a bad vantage point on the situation?]

Bolt is an op spell it sees modern and legacy play, if you look at all the 2 for 3 damage spells being pushed and in the history of magic you will see that bolt is the outlier. However a sorcery spell bolt could be cool and would be legacy playable, no not lavaspike. Shock is just fine, I am sure it's because you didn't play before bolt was in standard but shock is a fine spell and solid removal, has nothing to do with snapcaster, you're just spoiled.

Bolt is considered "too gud." I'm kinda surprised for Shock coming back considering we have Turn//Burn. In eternal formats bolt will always be better but in Standard we are happy with an instant speed removal for 2 damage for just one red. 1 mana drops need to die.

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.
Shock will always be welcome in any core set so, welcome home, Shock
Also, Burning Earth is a pretty cool sideboard card for mono-red or two-colored decks, against all those multi-color spamming decks out there. I would seriously add two on my izzet sideboard
Hmm. Burning Earth is a bit of a disappointment, honestly. I'd much rather have a functional reprint of Ruination, Price, or Moon. While it's nice Wizards hasn't completely forgotten about nonbasic hate, I'm sad they've toned it down.
Is it bad I'm really excited for Shock? lol
In other news, glad I just sold my beta Llanowar Elves. Elvish Mystic will actually fill a big hole for green-based aggro, replacing Avaycn's Pilgrim. Yeah!
Hmmmm, with them revamping Llanowar Elves for non-mechanical reasons, might this also spell the end of Birds of Paradise? Think about it. BoP is a plural card name, and it is a flyer in green! Both seem to be no-nos. Not to mention I don't think seeing everyone's favourite mana birds carry Sword of War and Peace for 8 damage and 4 life on turn 3 last summer is what WOTC had in mind. Maybe a functional reprint without flying is in the offing? It would certainly boost sales...
Seriously though, can we get a permanent elf lord at common? Slivers have 3 of them!
It is sad not to see an as yet unspoiled sliver name on the standee thing.
They wanted it for the Limited environment obviously. Same reason they put Torch Fiend in M13 despite it having just been in ISD block.
You are aware we only have 3 that are "pure" Llanowar Elves after this one right?
and now
Elvish Mystic

To me it's obvious that's the main reason.

Llanowar Elves are druids and so are Fyndhorn Elves, as long as you are looking at current versions.

edit - any new art for the reprints??
Uhhhh yeah, sure let's go with that.
You may want to check the class type on the original Llanowar Elves.
Interested in Custom Card Creation.

(filter->rarity to see in set rarity).
I think everyone assumes Llanowar Elves are a group of warriors or something because of how aggressive one of them looks on the recent incarnations.
So they just assume they have to be Elf Warriors it just makes sense.

I don't always post about Rafiq of the Many, but when I do, I cardlink to the original artwork, and not the supplementary product version.
"I trust myself to do my duty, even unto death. It's what comes after that I'm afraid of."
"Just fight without fear. Your soul is protected by the hand of Avacyn and will never submit to evil."
