What other red cards could have been mythic that you would have accepted? Modern just doesn't have expensive red cards is all. Enjoy your potential Kiki-Jiki and junk mythic
I would've liked having Kikki-Jiki at mythic, but eh. Ryusei is fine too.
229 card sets typically have 15 mythics, no? I would expect at least two mythics of every color, plus some artifacts (swords) and/or multicolor mythics (Ajani Vengeant?). Kiki Jiki is almost guaranteed. Green looks to already have two mythics confirmed.
This is basically confirmed as far as I'm concerned.
God, WOTC, why did you have to print it in such small numbers. Imagine how amazing it would be to draft this without breaking your bank.
Wut? Its not a small print run, its enough for stores to get cases of it so they can draft it. It was part of how the set was built, so you could limited-modern.

Doubling season at mythic makes no sense, when there are commander products coming out in the fall that it could very well be printed in. Then again, what other expensive green rares are there that could be reprinted?
I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.

The card is probably too expensive for those products now. Also correct me if i;m wrong but aren't Tarmogoyf and doubling season the two most expensive mono green cards in modern. If so this is fine, the cards you want might just be rare like tooth and nail.
then again, we already got the worst one. Others would just be upgrades i guess...
It would make more sense to have the whole cycle in the mythic spot rather than just having one of the dragons in the mythic spot.
Maybe We might see vendilion clique as a
Rare?

Yeah I'm pretty sure you're right at them being the most expensive rare green cards in modern. Tooth and Nail is up there too, but it's better to be at rare.

It's a 30 dollar card.
There might be some better candidates as far as competitive goes but Doubling Season perfectly fit the definition of a Mythic: powerful and unique effect.
{frowns} I was under the impression that the Shards of Alara set was considered to be too young (i.e. there were still enough cards from the set floating around on the secondary market) for Modern Masters consideration.
>Elspeth
>Kataki
>Path to exile
>Doubling Season
>Tooth and nail
>Kitchen finks
>Knight of the reliquary
>vial
>Ravager
>swords
>shackles
.... WTF
Where do you see Doubling Season in the original thread in Speculation? Not the gatheringmagic.com site, that's baseless as far as I'm concerned.
Of the cards you listed that are actually known, only the original Swords and Shackles really have availability problems. If the Swords are promoted to mythic and the print run is as short as being suggested, Modern Masters is not going to make a dent in the supply. Just as with Goyf and Bob..the fact they're being reprinted is great, but promoting them to mythic means people will barely be able to get their hands on the actual cards.
PtE, KotR, Elspeth, Vial have all been reprinted recently in relatively good numbers, the first three in Duel Decks, and prices have stayed close to their lower post-reprint levels. So this suggests there's not really an availability issue.
What about the duds on the list you didn't mention?
The Vivid lands
Narcomoeba
Spellstutter Sprite
Pestermite
Echoing Truth
Grapeshot
Empty the Warrens
Desperate Ritual
I am not saying these are bad cards in any way. But I am not excited at all about them being reprinted, and they are not facing availability issues from being in older sets etc. - fixing those supply problems was one of the originally stated (conflicting) goals of Modern Masters.
This whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Don't get me wrong, I have a box pre-ordered at under MSRP, but I can only imagine how people who paid twice that will feel when they crack basically nothing.

That doesn't mean that it was the ONLY goal and that ONLY cards with availability issues would be in the set. It was also intended to play in Limited, and they stated that they aimed to have certain archetypes, such as Faeries and Storm, as viable limited strategies.

They have to print commons and uncommons in this set, so not every card is going to be a card with availability issues.
Why? so everyone can just ***** about how much better the old ones were? lol
Big thanks to Rivenor for the sig!!
Ryusei is just a $1.49 card... even Dragonstorm or Through the Breach is more "expensive" than it.
And it has been printed more times than the other 4 Kamigawa dragons....
Those are still only $3 and $4 cards respectively. This was bound to happen with the 2nd red mythic regardless. People were just going to complain
Don't say that
then again, we already got the worst one. Others would just be upgrades i guess...

There will be bad mythics in this set, at least its a dragon, lol.

Maybe just a mistake? Anyways this list was very predictable, other than Ryusei at mythic. Seems good enough to be real..

Big thanks to Rivenor for the sig!!
Also try mythicspoiler.com, they took the list and make mockups of them. They've got all the same cards I think.

Edit : Actually this site is missing the two swords.
