Here's what I submitted. I went through a bunch of complicated ideas but settled on the simplest one. Opinions?
Blot Out the Sun (The sun is blacked out by a deadly fog, which causes all non-black creatures to perish. When the fog is lifted, the sudden blinding light from the sun kills the black creatures who were hiding from it.)
When Blot Out the Sun enters the battlefield, destroy all non-black creatures.
When Blot Out the Sun leaves the battlefield, destroy all black creatures.
This is the coolest one I have seen. Flavor explosion.

Feel free to tell me yours!
can you guys figure out a nice "Form of the Demon" card? I mean, I'm not from north-america, so feel free to submit 'my' idea... examples;
When Form of the Demon enters the battlefield under your control, destroy all creatures and your life total becomes 6.
At the beginning of your upkeep, draw a card and you lose 1 life.
~or~
Pay 1 life: Target creature gets -1/-1
At the end of your turn, your life total becomes 6.
~or~
When Form of the Demon enters the battlefield under your control, destroy all creatures you don't control. At the beginning of your upkeep sacrifice a creature. If you cannot, sacrifice Form of the Demon and your life total becomes 1.
I submitted one as
At the beginning of your upkeep, each opponent sacrifice a creature. If he or she cannot, tap all creatures he or she controls and form of the demon deals 6 damage to him or her.
At the beginning of your end step, your life total become 6.
My card trades creatures from play with cards from the top of your deck.
Monster Market 2BB
B sacrifice a creature: Reveal the top X cards of your library, where x is the sacrificed creatures converted mana cost plus 1. You may put a creature card from among them into play. Put the rest into your graveyard. activate this ability only during your turn.
I hope it's not to green but I like it.
yup, too green. sry.
Form of the demon ideas are pretty cool, but how to do it without having it be too much like form of the dragon?
is there some other flavorful baddy in black that it would be cool to transform into? I mean thats the appeal of these cards. Like lich.
I kinda want a new lich card that is nothing like any of the other liches around, a new spin on that trope would be BA
The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
Not super interesting, but this is what I submitted.
Some Mercy
(Some mana cost with X)
Whenever a creature deals damage to a player, put X -1/-1 counters on that creature. If a creature dies by this effect, each of its controller's opponents draw 1 card and gain 1 life. Activate this ability only once each turn.
An army is turned to ash by a strange wind and their life force is drawn into the sky.

it should have some way of keeping track of what x is. They dont like making people remember stuff like that. Counters are the usual choice. Also,
Its not an activated ability, so i dont think it works the way you want it to. The correct wording would be..really wordy lol not sure exactly though

Could try form of the vampire and something to do with life gain and counters.
When a creature you control deals damage to a creature put a +1/+1 counter on it.
When an opponent is dealt damage, you gain that much life.
Or form of the zombie
When a non token creature you control dies, exile it and put a 2/2 black zombie token onto the battlefield.
If your life total would drop below 1, it becomes 2 instead.
At the end of your turn, your life total becomes 2.
[End of Days] Creatures crawl back from the dead as the world slowly dies.
If a creature you control would die, exile it instead.
At the beginning of your upkeep, put target creature card from your graveyard onto the battlefield. Put cards equal to its converted mana cost from the top of your library into your graveyard.
I submitted (in less detail due to space constraints) this:
Flavor: A demonic portal sucks the energy out of its surrounding to provide the fuel it needs to bring forth a terrible demon.
[Demonic Portal]
At the beginning of your upkeep, you may sacrifice any number of permanents you control and draw that many cards
Sacrifice [Demon Portal] and discard any number of cards: Search your library for a demon creature card with converted mana cost equal to the number of cards discarded this way and put it into play.
This provides a research management tool in case you flood out (Spike appeal). Also can be used as a combo piece with cards like faith's reward or as a discard enabler (Johnny appeal). Finally this is used to get splashy demons (Timmy appeal).
Tagline: For ages, demons have tutored for you. Repay the favor. Tutor for demons.

hmmmmmmmmmm.....this reads broken, but I like your explanation. no sure if spikes would care about it unless it was a) combo piece or b) a CA engine with stuff with death triggers.
actually, to be honest, i dont even care about the demon part. I just like the first part. alot
EDIT: then again, without the demon part, it does nothing for a whole turn. Maybe some other effect, i feel like the demon part will make it necessary to be REALLY expensive, like 8+ expensive

I agree it is a 'broken' card, but it has serious limitations, in that it must be built around and is 'slow' (takes a turn to get online). Honestly, I'm a Johnny spike, and I designed the cards without any demon references at first, but wanted to add some flavor/timmy appeal so i added the demon part. Mainly, I just wanted a combo piece that doubles as an interesting resource management tool.
EDIT: The desired casting cost for this card ranges from 3-4 (if they remove the part about demons and just keep the resource management part, in which case, maybe move the trigger to the main phase), to 4-6 if they keep the demons clause. If its costed at 4 I doubt it would make waves in older formats, and in standard decks like blitz kill on turn 4, so I dont see this as being particularly broken.
The most broken combination I can think of so far is using cards like faith's reward in conjunction with rune-scarred demon. So, cast this, say, for 4. Next turn sac every other permanent to get up to 7 cards in hand, tap lands on upkeep and discard 7 cards to get rune scarred demon which fetches faith's reward which brings back all your permanents (including the portal). Mix in cards like lingering souls. It seems like sweet synergy, but I dont think its unfun tournament dominating synergy.
Or lands, or artifacts, or Planeswalkers. Black kills creatures. This card, especially how Grim has it priced would be a suped-up off color Stone Rain with an option on Murder or Naturalize
Pay 1 life: draw 3 cards your opponent draws 1 card, they may pay 1 life: to make you discard twice. They may activate this abilitly only once each time you activate.
When a creature enters the battlefield under an opponents control you may put a token into play as a copy of that creature. If you do you lose life equal to the casting cost of the creature & sacrifice a creature.
BBB: Put a creature from any graveyard onto the battlefield under an opponents control
Probably should have limited the downside to just one thing.
I waffled between using casting cost or power/toughness for the life loss. Although as it is now token creatures entering under an opponents control give a creature with no life loss but a required sacrifice. Wanted the token to come into play as a shadow in addition to other costs but wording got too long.
When ~ is put into your graveyard from your library, you may put it onto you hand instead.
Return target creature from your graveyard to the battlefield. When ~ leaves the battlefield, that creature's controller exile it.

yea, i was figuring 4 or five without the demon part. I think itd be fun at 4 with the demon thing, and you make a compelling argument, but I can imagine RandD having problems with costing it that aggressively. All in all though, an excellent submission my friend i like it better than my own i reckon lol

Wished it had been an aura, since I felt there was more design creativity to had there, but I submitted my idea for an enchantment anyway. I went for something a little unusual to punish cards that make your creatures go to the bottom of your library (Hallowed Burial and Condemn effects).

Thanks! R&D has shown themselves to be wary of combo pieces, but have shown a willingness to push demons in the past to make them an iconic part of the game (griselbrand). I appreciate the feedback, its too bad people were not supposed to work together to make the cards, because that would have been fun.
Flavor behind my idea is the bridge between life and death.
Alter of Life and Death2BB
Enchantment
At the beginning of your upkeep, pay 2 for each soul counter on Alter of Life and Death or sacrifice it.
Sacrifice a creature and Put a soul counter on Alter of Life and Death: when target creature is put into your graveyard from the battlefield this turn, return that card to the battlefield. That creature is a Black Zombie in addition to it's other colors and creature types. You lose life equal to that creature's converted mana cost. "Only death may pay for life - Unknown"
This card provides a sac outlet for reanimation. That's powerful if you sacrifice a creature that is happy to die (LTB) and you reanimate a creature who is happy to live (ETB). So the price to have such power is your own life and mana.
This combines 2 big themes in black: resource payments (creature, life, and mana) for a large payout (reanimation). This should easily fit in Black's profile. I realize this card takes a lot of what Saffi Eriksdotter does (plus Rise from the Grave), but the theme fits more in black than it does in Selesnya.

Whenever a creature or planeswalker is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, exile it under ~ instead.
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player loses X life and draws X cards, where X is the number of cards exiled with ~.
Sacrifice a creature: Gain life equal to the sacrificed creature's toughness.
What do you think? My idea was like a glowing black orb that sucks things into it. The "promise of power" is that it gives you more cards the more it kills things, but it also hurts you as well. Made it group hug because I had EDH in mind to be honest.
