I would say that he could be decent in some applications, and that I do know a few people that will at least try him in their mill based EDH decks. However, I do think that we all have the right to be extremely disappointed, in not only his ability, but also his flavor. Since his name is Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker, I think that it was always safe to assume that he would have something to do with milling. However, he also had the potential to have a really great/cool mill effect rather than this bland and quite unpredictable one.
For example, I was personally anticipating that he would be something like Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief with mill, where you would pay X and tap to mill and simultaneously make Mirko a giant beater. This would have worked with mill and made him a bit more flavorful.
Again, he might be decent, sometimes. But I still we all deserve to be disappointed, if not outright depressed, by him.
You'd think, with all the intelligence gathering power of the Dimir, they would have known a long time ago that their champion blew. I love dimir. Do you know who costs one more? Oona. A 5/5 flier. And if a bug that crawls through sewers and survives off elf piss can learn how to grow from forgotten memories, why can't the leader of the group.
are you implying that conjured currency is less useful in a draft/sealed/constructed game than Search the ****ty? Have at thee, then!
oh yeah, and search the city.
not saying it's worse, just saying that conjured currency is bad, but it's not better than the dimir champ. nothing about search the city that's better than conjured currency.
are you implying that conjured currency is less useful in a draft/sealed/constructed game than Search the ****ty? Have at thee, then!
dude, I totally blocked that from my memory! I guess I WANT to believe one crappy blue rare enchantment per set is enough. But given the choice between mirko and search the city, Ill take the latter, you could at least build an interesting deck with it.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
Wow, I would really like to get into R&D's head right now and see what they're trying to accomplish.

Well I guess people expected to have a "Titan Cycle" with the champions (I know I did) and we actually got something worse, so it's worse cards+disappointment.
This^ -_-
This is the Problem with Magic Players today
5 MONO colored Titans...didn't =break= Standard, but *sort of* Oppressed It. You could kill them all if you tried, but they gave every Color a Solid Timmy Beater with a Spiked mana cost, and Grave, Sun, Primeval, and Infernal all had abilities that had arguably-Johnny interactions (unless you thought they were ''too dumb and obvious'' and would say they were More Spikeness)
10 GOLD GUILD TITANS would have been absolutely retarded. I mean 4 Mythic Angels is already kinda scary in Standard. Good thing people aren't trying too hard to break those...when they can just break Griselbrand instead -_-
I guess you all want Commander-Standard? Well here is a newsflash: Commander is actually a broken format, and it's only the fact that it's supposed to be played by 4+ people that keeps it halfway-healthy and keeps all kinds of ludicrous crap fun instead of obnoxious. I LIKE when a Whole Block has one or two Super Stupid Creatures that are fun to try live the dream and build the deck (Darksteel Colossus, Iname as One (too bad that one wasn't as good as one would hope), Progenitus, Rakdos the Defiler)
and I like Cycles (Lorwyn//Shadowmoor and Alara had a huge number, Ravnica is also known for its cycles) but what is slightly less joyful is when set after set Obnoxious Creatures get made-
like Wurmcoil Engine, Blightsteel Colossus, Phyrexian Obliterator, and Batterskull- any two of those could have been awesome and showcased how deadly Phyrexia was in the block, but we actually got twice times two and the whole block really felt like 'there's no point engaging Phyrexia on the battlefield. Best choice is not to play.'
Zendikar didn't abuse creatures too badly, and neither honestly did Innistrad, because it was only really in Act III that Over the Top stuff came out to play and you didn't have to think 'great, this whole block is about Titan fights'- but coming on either end of Phyrexia, while I like what R&D DOES most of the time, I DON'T like people's reactions and expectations getting all crazy.
Ravnica has 10 Guildmasters at Mythic already, and I have to say I'm terribly grateful for Standard's sake that the Guild Champions are Rares. They SHOULD be! And it's more than OK, it's downright Healthy for them to be Weaker than what people apparently expected.
A couple of them I wish were a tad pushed here and there, but a lot of people are just passing over Teysa and Mirko and saying 'crap. crap. why doesn't this beat up Griselbrand and counter Emrakul for me? crap.' Or at least that's what some people *sound* like.
A Cipher Support card I'm sure is in the Set, it's just not Mirko. just WAIT till you see the whole set, you spoiled dummies! -_- I wish he'd been a 3/5 maybe, but I'm not sad that he's Mind Funeral on a Stick. I might ask WOTC tomorrow how many different numbers they tried having him Grind for, but I like that he Grinds. It makes sense for him, as a Dimir Vampire, to resemble the old Guildmaster Szadek more than the human and undead wizards that work for Dimir or the Shapeshifter Lazav. (Who I constantly have to remind myself has Hexproof and is way better than I think he is even after I think he's good.)
I am probably every color-combination it is possible to be, though it's really hard to figure out what it would mean to be 4-colored....it doesn't seem logical to be 4-colored without being 5-colored.
Mill is my favorite magic mechanic and even I can't get behind this card. Consuming Aberration is so much better at that slot. Not much of a champion if you ask me.
Momir Vig, Simic Visionary Melek, Izzet Paragon Oona, Queen of the Fae Bruna, Light of Alabaster Gisela, Blade of Goldnight Rhys the Redeemed Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord Sen Triplets The Mimeoplasm WUBRGSliver OverlordGRBUW WUBRGSliver Hivelord(Superfriends)GRBUW
I just want to cry for this card. We get a gem like duskmantle seer AND NOTHING ****ING ELSE. For the next year and a half (until RtR rotates from standard) U/B will be the weakest color combination. We got a ton of ****ing useless mill cards taking up our design space. That means no matter what happens in Theros U/B will be way behind the other colors because they will have 2 blocks to work from while U/B will only have M14 and Theros. Way to **** it up WotC. You neuter black's removal. Jack up the cost of counterspells to unplayable. Then give us the most useless creatures possible.
He is a 2/4. A crocanura with no evolve can block him and not even trade. Let me help this sink in more for you. A common creature that is designed for other creatures to be played before it becomes legitimate can beat this LEGENDARY creature.
I could give a rats ass about Mind Funeral or any other card that is like it. You want a real mill card give me traumatize or grindstone. Scalpelexis was even good and it didn't have to be legendary. Even Keening Stone is a very real threat.
Now at the same time I am watching white get a bad ass edict and removal. Green is getting more and more flash cards with crazy power creatures. The timmies have taken over R&D and it shows. They cannot even make a timmie card be good.
Pretty much disappointed with all of these champions. 1 more to go and out of 9 shown so far 3 of them are even worth playing. I don't even mean just in standard formats. They are even bad in EDH. The 1 format where some of the worst cards in magic history have become some of the best.
Getting taken over by the Timmies is better than getting taken over by the Spikes, losers -_- If they'd been taken over by the Spikes, they'd have given Golgari Dredge and said 'To Hell with this idea that 'Games are supposed to be Fun' WINNING is even more fun!'
Mirko Vosk does not win the game as fast as possible. So. ****ing. What. He wins the game eventually and is definitely powerful enough to disrupt what the opponent is doing. I've always thought of Milling as Super Discard. It's not directly card advantage, but it can easily be Card Quality advantage. You do know Dimir Charm might be able to make this Mirko guy a little bit sick? Not as Stupid as Jace, but manipulating the library to put the lands as far down as possible so you hit the most cards in between is a good idea.
I like cards that win you the game in a grindy way much more than cards that win you the game Immediately. Grind is a mechanic designed to do exactly this: Keep the game going Midrange or longer. It alone doesn't have the power to force wins out of thin air, which means nobody's going to be smashing someone with a "Brain Burning" deck and combo milling you Turn 4.
I am not lying or being a troll at all when I say I'll be excited to put Mirko Vosk in my Lazav deck As I do not happen to have a Szadek, I expect Mirko will just be cheaper to get. There are SOME people that can appreciate a card for what it is supposed to be, not what they thought it was going to be.
I am probably every color-combination it is possible to be, though it's really hard to figure out what it would mean to be 4-colored....it doesn't seem logical to be 4-colored without being 5-colored.
And it's more than OK, it's downright Healthy for them to be Weaker than what people apparently expected.
This isn't an issue of weak, its an issue of weak AND uncreative design, something that should absolutely not be on something so iconic and beloved as the frickin guild champions.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.

Not to be "that guy,"
But Dimir Charm won't allow Mirko to mill any more cards than without.
He mills at least 4 lands, and you can only manipulate the top three with the Charm.
(well, I guess you could put the lands in the GY and hope for a bigger mill, but it's not guaranteed).
Sorry... as much as I like Mill, and LOVE :dimir:,
this guy is just a huge disappointment

Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker 3UB
Legendary Creature - Vampire
Flying Whenever Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker attacks, defending player reveals cards from the top of his or her library until he or she reveals four land cards, then puts those cards into his or her graveyard. 3/7
I would like him a lot more. Far more durable & a reliable mill.
The real Mirko often won't get past x/3 flyiers or even stoped by Giant Spider.
Reliable? Perhaps.
Durable (and stronger)? While it improves dog fights with other creatures, it doesn't really make any real difference to the mill (only) strategy.
I personally would have liked to see Mirko Vosk with a greater power and toughness (but not 3/7! how radically unsquare are those stats?) or with some other ability (draw cards equal to cards milled, lol?). But rather than expect so much from him, if you consider the card as a card with Mind Funeral encoded on it, then it doesn't seem so terrible. At least that way, you can rationalise the saboteur ability rather than a "When ~ attacks" ability like that on Nemesis of Reason.
Now that the card simply is, you can really only hope that the rest of the cards won't be 'bad' or bad.
Quite disappointed with him here.
As a Dimir mill enthusiast, I was hoping for something a little more than Mind Funeral on a stick.
The name Mind Drinker was suggesting that it would be using milled cards for knowledge, or powering himself up, or something. This guy is just doing normal old insanity stuff.

This seems very uncreative.
This. Szadek was drinking, he got bigger the more he milled. Vosk just slashes memories, no vampirism at all. Oh...and the card is terrible.
Mirko Vosk is fairly impressive, but his power is far too low; he definitely could have been a 4/4 for that mana cost and not have been overpowered, in my mind, so I prefer Szadek over him, since Szadek has a better power/toughness-to-mana cost ratio, and also becomes more powerful each time that he attacks.
