"Ignite your spark", eh? I wonder what the focus of the set will be.
It'll be courtroom battles between defendant Jace Beleren and prosecutor Garruk Wildspeaker. Presumably Liliana is on trial for murdering Griselbrand or something. The honorable Judge Ispiria presiding (not printed in this set).
Darn...
I was hoping for the 20th anniversary core set they would do something nostalgic. Its a core set so they dont have to follow the current stories, they could have done anything.
I was personally hoping for Urza, the old poster boy, finally getting a planes-walker card, like a what would have been if he had lived threw the mending. I dont know, how they'd spin it or what. But it would have been cool if Urza, as well as a bunch of other nostalgia was back for the 20th anniversary.
You think after last year's "Face a greater challenge." we'd realize those catch phrases are just marketting jibberish.
It is. And so is all the fuzz about planeswalkers. No one's really scared of Nicol Bolas when you can't cast it.
On the other hand, Blood Artist is quite the archenemy of universe when he does his thing.

Casting Bolas was the greater challenge you were supposed to face, then?

There is still a greater challenge.
Break formats with this.
Yep, just marketing. People will speculate planeswalker matters and let's face it, not going to happen. MaRo (and I'm sure that most of his co-workers) is/are pretty satisfied with the number of planeswalkers printed per year, where a certain quantity of them actually see play.

So I guess no Koth in the Core Set? I wonder if someone else might rotate out. Probably too soon for Ajani 3.0 (so no Elspeth or Gideon) or Liliana 3.0 (especially with the return of the shocklands). I like Primal Hunter, so it'd be sad to see him go. I wonder if Memory Adept's reign of terror over Core Set Limited needs to end, though. AoT would still be a bomb, but much less egregiously so.

How about "You may discard your hand, pay 5 life, rip this card, remove 3 digits from any number of target fingers you control, and concede at the end of the next end step rather than pay It Will Go Through!!'s mana cost.
For solicitation and copyright purposes, they have to announce a product, list its creators and attach at least one image to a product to officially list it in publications. This is also for advertisement purposes.
That makes sense. I'm not big into corporate law and stuff, but I guess I can understand why now.

Out of the 5 available Chandra card arts out there, this just looks a lot more like her MTG Tactics model than any existing art. Check out the Planeswalker video at http://www.magicthegatheringtactics.com/movies.vm to see what I'm talking about
Granted, the proportions could do with a bit more work. When compared to the 2 other female MTG Brad Rigney artwork pieces Nin, the Pain Artist and Visara the Dreadful; this Chandra looks really dismal. Poor lighting and the absence of hair makes her look less sexy than she should be. The best part about Chandra was her beautiful red hair that just happens to be on fire.
Side note: I've also just realised that Chandra seems to always pose looking to the right in her non-promo artwork.
I really like that version from him but pretty much everything from him is pure awesome. Liliana of the Veil is another great job from him. I wouldnt complain if he would make more art for Magic.

To be fair I find Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker to be really evil, annoying and powerful once he hits the field.
Because they speak to the demographics of people who play the game. Which kid doesn't think Jace is uber-cool, Chandra and Liliana are fantasy hotties, Garruk is your badass Conan-like barbarian? It's only white that gets the shaft, between Gideon and Ajani. Competitive players will mostly care about the game effect they bring, be they named Liliana, Cindy or Barbara.
I can see it now, Cindy, the 20 something girl in accounting from Broklyn who sees herself as a weekend 'wiccan' has her spark ignite and starts a new life adventuring in the multiverse (coming to a theater new you this summer)!
And will the artists ever actually illustrate her with hair? None of the other red-aligned planeswalkers (Koth, Tibalt, and Sarkhan) have their heads burning like torches, so why does Chandra?
Because the other 3 aren't really pyromancers. Koth's magic is about the earth really(more rock/stone elements than forests, plants, etc.), geomancy. Tibalt's magic is to induce pain and overall abuse his rage and hatred, especially due to fusing with devils. Sarkhan is destruction based, as well as dragon based. Read the Daily MTG article about Clan Defiance for what I mean about destruction based

I'll show my opinion here, and, I hope you please don't hate me because of that. Or any of you that could possibly read this.
I find this whole thing "Oooh, Jace - Chandra - Liliana - Garruk - Ajani, mighty planeswalkers, some are proud heroes, others plotting experts" a complete stupidity. If I really wanted to see things like those, I'd just turn on my television for Power Rangers or something. Players in the past were amazed on how Dominaria story was rich and detailed, and now, all we see is the Duels of the Planeswalker trailers with this childish approach on the story line. All I know now is that for some random reason, Garruk got mad at Liliana and she cursed him and went after the four demons, Jace chased Chandra because of more random reasons, and now Nicol Bolas is a dragon version of Mini Me. This should stop. What happened with Venser and his adult desires on Jhoira? And the reckless Phyrexians? Momir Vig with hating the people and plotting on mutilating the population of Ravnica? Should this kind of storyline be killed and/or ignored because "Oh, Jace is a very smart mage that can do things with people's thoughts, and now he's heading to Ravnica to something something?"

I'm not surprised they'd focus on Chandra. If you look at storyline happenings, she's been the least involved lately...
Liliana - Big player in ISD.
Garruk - See Liliana.
Jace - Big player in Ravnica.
Ajani - Gideon is playing the role of "important white planeswalker" at the moment.
Chandra - Uhm.... *shrug*

Have you read the webcomics? even the books (though I have to say the old ones played to much like dnd novels...I leave my arguement about the quality of those here, and the new ones like....well even less than that. With some great ones in there, aka the original ravnica trilogy, the onslaught and odyssey novels, and a few others) The web comics aren't bad, but show what is going on pretty good to tell you the truth.
I'm going on record right now and stating that before the end of 2012 we will see foil dual lands in booster packs (The real, Alpha dual lands). You can quote me on that.

I have read those long time ago, and it felt like it wasn't detailed that much, at the point that I disliked it, but atleast served well as introductory material to the planeswalkers lore, which I missed because I was on a hiatus of Magic.
The storylines are extremely similar. (ie terrible.)
They are indeed both terrible. There was a part of my life that I was reading Dostoyevsky, Graciliano Ramos, good literature. But the core of the stories and the marketing that Wizards is going is ridiculous. Remember those little deck boxes with 35 or 40 cards, given to LGS to be a starter deck for new players or in gaming cons or something, with cards from Zendikar block and Scars of Mirrodin block? God, I wish I didn't played Magic when I read all those little bios of the planeswalkers.

Just to be clear. I meant the actual card and not him from a story perspective.
Can't wait to see how the other walkers in the set will fare. * prayer circling for Garruk's to be HOT *
Serra Stan - Angel Enthusiast - Garruk and Tyvar thirsty follower - Flavor and Art Enthusiast
It'll be courtroom battles between defendant Jace Beleren and prosecutor Garruk Wildspeaker. Presumably Liliana is on trial for murdering Griselbrand or something. The honorable Judge Ispiria presiding (not printed in this set).
Key words highlighted. Then again, Deathless Angel was a thing that happened (possibly unintentionally!), and good lord the fallout was huge.
There's still time. There's still hope.
Hey, Wizards, Stroke of Genius isn't on the reserved list.
I'm surprised they don't have a tag for Magic yet, frankly.
RRR Khorenthos - The Red Block (Feedback needed!) RRR
