ANd so now we know at least 3 champions, and seems like they're mostly nobody we know outside flavor text at best. Especially the Izzet weird...
The champions fall into four categories: Old friends (Teysa), The Secretist characters (Emmara, Varolz, Mirko Vosk, Lavinia, Ruric Thar, Exava), flavortext (Vorel), and none of above (Tajic and Melek). From the last 2, Tajic was at least mentioned in the Planeswalker's guide.
But looking at Melek, I cannot but wonder whether Frostburn Weird's image and flavortext wasn't a hint all the time
As for Niv vs. legionnaires, this is an interesting one, even more when you take into account this pic from the trailer at PAX east...it is like Niv has again taken a more direct approach to things.
And yeah, Exava definitely breaks the "skinny chicks" cliche, and that is not a bad thing. Guess that she knows how to enjoy herself in many ways.
For the record, that isn't confirmed.
While I will grant he looks a bit like a weird, he also looks a LOT like a Djinn... and of the two, we know djinn are more likely to be sapient (and qualify for the maze... and wear clothes) rather than weirds.
Ice+Lightening = conflicting elements. Pretty obvious hes made of ice and lightening and that pretty much confirms its a wierd. I could understand the doubt when it was blurry....but clearly now, thats no genie.
Also, as a hater, Izzet wierd that Melek looks so badass?

There is buried treasure everywhere...in a graveyard.
Melek isn't a djinn for a very simple reason - djinn and efreet don't have legs.
just to play devil's advocate here: if you take a look at some card art, roughly 1/3 of the 30 djinn printed and half of the 16 efreet do in fact have visible legs (and i say visible because there are several more that very well could have legs but the art crops off at the waist or higher). granted, most of those are old artwork, and you probably meant specifically djinn native to Ravnica (which so far have all been depicted having the wispy i-just-popped-out-of-my-lamp lower extremity). but they are powerful magical beings. there's no reason they couldn't have legs if they wanted to.
all that being said, i'm of the mind he's a weird or elemental. mostly because it looks like he has the mixed-elements thing going on. but i wouldn't hate either way. i'm a fan of djinns, but having a legendary creature- weird wizard would be kinda funny. plus, the game just needs more weirds! X)
I really don't like her face
I already don't like eyes without iris, but that nose and mouth...
She's a bag on head girl in my book.
She's not the kind of woman that you take to bed. She's the kind of woman that you frantically flee from, shrieking like a little girl as you desperately try to get to the police before she catches up and eviscerates you.
...In other words, my kind of woman. (Don't judge me.)
But I liked the new direction for Rakdos. The old one was much about slaughter and bloodshed and all that, but the new one has a more subtle entertainment theme.
Exava feels more like old Rakdos. I would've preferred one you want to take to bed, to better fit with the new feel. Rakdos and sexualized just fit together.
Also, no worries. I'm not one of those stiff Azorius Bureaucrats. No judging from me.
Ehhh Rakdos is still pretty much slaughter just now with a circus feel. Besides, wouldnt she be in a brothel and not on the front lines if she were "that" kind of Rakdos lady? Doesnt seem like the type of lady Rakdos would hire as a general, ya know?

You and I apparently have very different tastes. I find Exava to be very sexualized, without crossing the line into absurd fanservice-for-the-sake-of-fanservice.
Well, she does have that absurd pose that manages to show both ass and boobs to the camera. Artists should really stop with that, it's incredibly cliché and annoying.
Eh? That's her outer thigh, which I'm fairly certain would be visible if someone were half-turning like that.
In other news, uncropped Simic Guildgate looks like "what if Eurodisney had been built right in the center of Paris instead of the distant suburbs?". And my opinion of Simic architectural taste just went down very hard.
Somewhat true, but--on the other hand--it's not actually inaccurate, given that the merfolk decided to just open sinkholes across Ravnica and build their new Zonots there.
Hmmm. without real wings and those markings in their faces + glowing eyes.... could it be that Jace messed with some angels / used his white magic for once (remember it states that Jace walks the edge between blue+ black and blue+white; so if you want you could say he is white-BLUE-black)
Oh come, anatomically correct or no, that is blatant tits & ass.
Never said it wasn't blatant--I did, in fact, say that she was sexualized. I simply don't consider her oversexualized, given who she is. It makes complete sense in-universe, which is why I don't consider it to be fanservice-for-the-sake-of-fanservice. Is it arguably fanservice? Yes, but it does fit into the world in a non-jarring way.
Very dissapointed by the Boros Guildgate artwork. Looks so bland and saturated with yellow. Reminds me of somebody spilling orange juice on white paper and having it stained.
"The Maze's End was discovered outside the Azorius senate." What's that supposed to mean? They made a reunion and discovered the Maze's End near the azorius senate? or the azorius senate is the maze's end?
My very first impression was: "Simic dudes?" then I shifted to "Dimir clones?" but now I'm in for "Jace's angels"... the thing is:
their lack of wings is what bothers me most... for simic they arent biologically enhanced enough. And if they were Dimir doppelgangers they should look exactly like the entities they exchanged places with (normal angels etc) + I don't think we would see some Dimir card that doesnt depict their secrecy.
Jace has VERY similar face tattoos and slightly different patterns on his robe. (Which might be some kind of ravnican fashion, but still: connections in artworks are made for us to be connected. The face tattoos alone are, imho, intended to remind us of jace; exspecially because Jace is the only major character afaik with such facial tattoos)
They do in fact have wings that are light blue and are coming out of the big metal things sticking out of their backs.
If I had to venture a guess they look like Boros soldiers but with some kind of Azorious wings. Something along the lines of the effects of Angelic Armaments

If you look at Thrill-Kill Assassin, there's a chance Exava could in fact be Massacre Girl.
Massacre Girl is described as "sinewy and bony." In contrast, Exava's well built (in more ways than one ;)), so those two characters being one and the same is unlikely.
I really don't like [Exava's] face
I already don't like eyes without iris, but that nose and mouth...

To be fair, Exava is giving a pretty nasty scowl. Just about anyone would look unappealing with that kind of expression (Traitorous Instinct... uuuugh).
this looks like what would happen if simic teamed up with someone else and made armor. I hope we get nice flavor text with this card if this artwork is used for it.

lol. am I the only one hoping Teysa doesn't get her fanservice boobshirt again?
Isn't that the main reason she is so popular?
