I am really happy for the set, also loving the flavor of how the guildless are rising up as well.
Btw can anyone tell me what are the RtR guild's cards in gatecrash? as there are a few in this set i think just like in RtR, their were cards that fit in with the gatecrash guilds.
As far as standard goes, the cards I'm really liking are Boros Reckoner, Beckon Apparition, Skinbrand Goblin, Illness in the Ranks, Devour Flesh, and Spell Rupture.
Zzzzz, time to take a break from magic. I do think it's best to front load power in the first set because of rotation, and I loved RtR. Limited looks ok but probably quite fast and just not very intersting over all. Art, flavor, design are all great but its just jot enough. This set is underwhelming just like most middle sets, not many cards I care about owning, it happens.
Rosewater said there'd be no 1 drop hybrids in this set.
As I recall he said there would be no cycle of Hybrid one-drops in the set. That still allows for one or two. Which explains the reprint of Beckon Apparition.
Similar power level to Dark Ascension. First sets tend to hold more general power though and this is no different, I thought it might be given that it was a bigger set, but oh well. Not too bad, will see some shake ups and at least the creation of one new archetype.
why do they want to hurt tokens so much T_T an anti token card and anti flyer card.....seriously.....just made it easier for people to sideboard against a tier 2 deck....

Limited looks terrible. Have none of you ever experienced creature-fest stall boards when there are literally 1-3 removal spells in the set that are even worth attempting to run?
At least half of this set is filling with cards that aren't good enough for standard, but are limited bombs. Basically all of the guild keywords are designed to break stalls (except maybe orzhov who loves a good stall). This set is a lot of things, including not very high on the power level scale, but bad at limited it is definitely NOT.
Overall i'm disappointed. All i play is EDH and Modern and frankly i'm growing tired of them printing cards so specifically tailored to EDH (primordial cycle) that its turning me off to it.
Cipher really left me hanging as its all just too overcost to see any modern play, Extort didn't really excite me either as it was added primarily to unattractive creatures for modern.
And my love for knights (both in EDH and Modern) was left severely lacking. Daring Skyjek is just a vanillia 3/1 that has a less exciting battalion trigger than other soldiers in the set. Knight of Obligation has amazing art but falls flat in the usefulness department. Skyknight legionare is a reprint and not even with better art. And truefire paladin just pales in comparison to most of 2 drop knights. Knight of Obligation could have easily been :symbw::symbw: pro white pro black extort 2/2 and actually seen some play.
I was so excited about this set... 1 prerelease, buy some singles then maybe 1-2 drafts for fnm.
This set looks horrendous. It kinda feels like they didnt even care about creating it. I am actually thinking about not pre-releasing now and just holding my money.

From a legacy perspective this is the worst set since Conflux. At least I am going to be able to pick up some cheap commander cards after some people are done drafting.

They are really pushing mill with this set, and many cards in this set feel like they are part of a guild yet are missing the watermark. Also the art style for this set makes most of the cards look like they are drawn by same artist with very little variation. I was extremely stoked for this set, by now just disappointed with the set.
Card strength and all the gameplay-stuff might sadden most people around here but I am just quite happy about the consistently good art quality we've been getting.
And unlike the first Ravnica set, this return feels more like the actual introduction when it comes to art feel.

I'm liking boros, we now have frontline medic, the new 3 mana spitemare, yet another gorehouse chainwalker, the best charm, plus an amazing ball lightning.
The effect could prove so discombobulating to combo players, in particularly, they may fizzle and run away screaming. "From that day the Curse of the Plateau was upon me, and I found every hand I ever pull from a combo deck is a mulligan."

- All of the guild specific mechanics feel great except for cipher, which really
falls apart at the common and uncommon level in terms of cost:effect
- We will be seeing the return of a few favorite deck archetypes such as the
Ghost Dad and Pillowfort decks
- Quite a few cards feel restricted both in cost and in effect (see Cipher). We
see some narrow removal and quite a bit of casual funstuff, but nothing super
competitive. That's not a really a complaint though
- Got some neat modern playable cards and a few hoser staples
Overall, it feels like WotC is hardcore pushing limited play.
Brings little to the current standard environment, which is okay. We
will be seeing the return of the pillowfort (just so happens to be one
of my favorite deck archetypes) though.

I am buckling in for the post-spoiler blues now!

aaaaand logging off MTGS for the night to avoid the herd of Eeyores who can't evaluate cards and think everything is terrible every set.
You say just what I want to say.
You people look half the set for the first time. Like 1 second each card. How many of these cards will be "OMG this card is soooo good" in 2, 3, 4 months from now? You just scroll down with your greedy eyes, looking for obviously powered cards (and they´re there), and don't notice cards that will be playable in standard, modern, and even legacy.
Just don´t judge the set yet. It´s impossible to know if it´s good or not right now, only time will tell.

They put it up around 12AM Eastern (when their website's day usually starts).
I really like a lot of the artwork too.
Gruul scares me. Those Bloodrush guys can deliver some serious pain without warning.
Orzhov has some nice goodies as well. I'm looking forward to seeing how Extort plays out.
I love this quote and I love you.

Well it's more like an Arrest with one mana tacked on. Basiclly what Pillory of the Sleepless was compared to Pacifism, whic i have no problem with.
On side not i really like The Orzhov enchantment of +1/+1, flying and lifelink.
X spell is cool.
