I thought that was just the rare "can't be countered" cycle. Shame. I like cycles.
I don't see why all of the cycles wouldn't make a return in gatecrash. In fact I think it would be unfair for the fans of the gatecrash guilds to not have the same cycles. I know the charms and key runes will return so why not the others
I disagree. I can't think of another mechanic that made the order you play your creatures in so important. As long as they don't print too many low CMC evolve cards, there's going to be a lot of skill and judgement involved in playing simic correctly.
I don't disagree with you here. What I'm saying is it doesn't provide for exciting game play. Making creatures bigger just seems bland to me.
Now I see what you're saying. I guess I just like abilities that make playing the game more interesting, and this one does it in a way that not many mechanics have in the past. That's more fun to me than the exciting abilities that tend to be more splashy or swingy. I'm betting we have different opinions on overload, but both liked transform.

Some facts of magic:
-Terror is an emotion which, when experienced, results in death.
-The pox was a disease notorious for having killed one-third, rounded up, of Europe’s population. Smallpox, on the other hand, killed only a single person.
-A person riding a horse cannot be stopped by foot soldiers, large animals, walls, archers, or even catapults.

But they will have their own cycles. Plus W/B can't do uncountable where as R/G does and blue gets some as it is the counter color.

At some point it's rather obvious that they're going to have to return to Ravnica, again. So having some pointed cycles to be expected in Ravnica 3 and have some "unfinished cycles" that some future design team can finish off will be a good boon.
Lorwyn they sort of just finished it off very quickly in one set, Ravnica has a lot of complexity to it that can be exploited for decades. It also means, though, that some of these cycles may return in DM, though.

Ambition must be made to counteract ambition.
Individualities may form communities, but it is institutions alone that can create a nation.
Nothing succeeds like the appearance of success.
Here is my principle: Taxes shall be levied according to ability to pay. That is the only American principle.
To all the people going "Meh, another creature mechanic" I have one thing to say:
It's a Simic card. You know, the guild that's all about preserving nature through science. About enhancing and modifying creatures.
I mean, if you were expecting Simic to get a spell mechanic....well, I'm sorry, but that wasn't going to happen.
I mean, sure, +1/+1 counters are a bit of a stretch in blue, but last time we visited Ravnica, the Simic did have graft, so when you look at it through the lens of Ravnica, then it's fine.
Personally, I love it. Flavour-wise, it's perfect for the Simic, it's evocative of graft while still being its own thing, and it looks like it'll encourage some fun deck building shenanigans as it encourages you to carefully plot out the power and toughness that your creatures have.
I know I just asked for that sweet Evolve one-drop,
but hey, it *is* almost Christmas!
It's funny, that is a totally plausible card and not even that powerful because it's basically just a weird Glorius anthem. If you want to go crazy, this could be fun:
Hmm, I wonder if they'll do multiple instances of evolve on any creatures. A creature that grants all your creatures evolve would be pretty cool too. Then you could build-your-own legendary creature thingy. Evolve on a man-land is pretty interesting.

Looks like some kind of power regression going on.. what happened to good uncommons like Vampire Nighthawk, Gatekeepr of Malakir, Leatherback Baloth, Path to Exile, Bloodbraid Elf, etc

You realize that the sets that contain those same cards also contain many very mediocre or outright bad uncommons, right? You're comparing the best of the best to a randomly selected card.
They don't really do may abilities now since at the highest REL events you can skip beneficial triggers. If at say GP Boston player A kills player B's Thragtusk and Player B forgets to get his 3/3 beast in a reasonable time, he gets nothing even if a judge is called later.
It is amusing that people are surprised that the Simic got a creature based mechanic when the guild was nearly completely creature based in the original Ravnica block.

Skipping is not forgetting. If you intentionally miss one of your own mandatory triggers, you'll be disqualified for Fraud.
Interesting. Evolve rewards Curvy decks and players that perfectly curve out the whole game, which is the exact opposite of the actual RTR format (GTC is standalone until DGM), in which you just throw the beef on the table. However, I do have the feeling that things will crumble horribly if you draw these creatures on the wrong moment, which is not where you want to be with your creatures in limited.
I wonder if they'll do anything to mitigate this. They could help a lot by making 1/2's', 1/3's, 4/2's, etc, to take advantage of the "power or toughness" part. Imagine a common 0/3 evolve. You could end up with a bunch of 3/6's just by playing more of that card.

Recent discussions here and elsewhere have made it clear that there seems to be a group of players who consider blue and control synonymous, as if they somehow started playing a game with four identical and "bad" colors that do nothing interesting because they just "turn men sideways" and then true, glorious blue, the only thinking person's color.

Blue still gets huge beasts as it did before (fatties *are* a part of Blue's color pie),
only, unlike the original Leviathan and Polar Kraken, the new ones are actually playable

Skipping is not forgetting. If you intentionally miss one of your own mandatory triggers, you'll be disqualified for Fraud.
It's at judges discretion though if he thinks your cheating.
If you miss a Dark Confidant trigger at 1 life obviously your cheating.
If you miss getting a 3/3 beast from a dead Thragtusk under 99.99999% of circumstances that is not going to be interpreted as cheating.

Awesome avatar provided by Krashbot @ [Epic Graphics].
You missed the official rules change that skipping beneficial triggered abilities is not considered cheating.
as above statement, this is at judge's discretion.
not putting a +1/+1 counter on your creature is considered a deficit, therefore in MOST cases would not be considered cheating.
although there will be scenarios where "forgetting" would actually be beneficial for the player I.E. selesnya charm
