Out of curiosity, why are the shocklands loved so much/ so pricey? In comparison to the duals in Innistrad and M13 it is more tempting to just play a dual on the second turn instead of paying 2 life.
They have basic land types, (Forest Swamp etc.) so you can fetch them with any card, spell or effect that can fetch a forest or a swamp etc. like verdant catacombs

Because they have basic land types on them (e.g. Forest, Mountain, etc.) they can be grabbed with fetchlands (e.g. Scalding Tarn, Misty Rainforest). For this reason, shocklands are played heavily in Modern.
But honestly it won't make a big difference for standard. I'm absolutely fine with getting "cruddy" duals in standard so that I can get mine cheaper. Despite the fact that there will be a ton of RTR opened presumably, there will be a premium on shocklands because of Modern.
At this point I would say there's a 99% probability that those arts belong to the shocklands. Seriously, tell me when you look at them you don't see Sacred Foundry, Hallowed Fountain, and Watery Grave. (The last one being debatable)
I'll eat my words if we don't see the shocklands in this set, it's either that or Wizards is ultra trolling us.
I don't think 10 dollar lands are first pickable even when they are on color, and especially when they are not. If I am wrong, then whatever, but with the people I play with, I will be seeing 5th pack duals just like with the last 4 blocks. Lucky me, I guess.
I find this highly unlikely. At any stakes lower than Day 2 of a GP or the final table of a SCG draft open or something, most players will take the card that pays for another draft over a playable uncommon anyday. If I'm Dimir & I crack an offcolor shockland in pack 3, I'm taking it regardless of whether or not it's playable because it trades for another draft and/or makes Standard cheaper. Monetary value WILL come into play with these; the duals you've been seeing in the last 4 blocks have not been valuable enough to tip a reasonable player's balance toward raredrafting. M1x & Innistrad duals are and historically have been only about as valuable as 1 pack; most reasonable players take offcolor M1x/INN duals only if there's nothing actually playable in the pack.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
The elf girl looks like Nissa I hope she returns as a BG-Walker in this block (although I think it's not very realistic).
But it's not planeswalker art...looks like she's holding a voodoo puppet.
No it doesn't. It just looks like...an elf. Reminds me of when everyone was claiming that playmat guy to be Ral Zarek when it clearly wasn't.

They also allow you to play 3 color decks pretty easily, without having to worry about your dual being tapped.
Why does it feel like there are some people who seem to always want to believe every fake/false lead, and some people who never want to believe anything?
It feels like the center is a place inhabited by very few.

This guy, would either eat up several turns worth of mana to get a slow permanent that relies on your already have some board presence (after wasting said mana), or dies without generating any advantage.

Just think about it this way. Even if you have no way to fetch for basic land types, you can play any of the Swamp shocklands on your first turn (say Watery Grave to have both those colors turn one. Next, you can play any of the M13 or Innistrad duals that require a Swamp (say Dragonskull Summit on the second turn and have it come into play untapped giving you access to yet another color on turn two.. The only cost for these duals is 2 life, and you only have to pay that life if you actually want to use the land the turn you play it.
Now add to that the ability to get them with fetchlands like Marsh Flats and other cards that search for basic land types but don't specify 'basic' like Farseek or Liliana of the Dark Realms and you have some very, very good lands.

I felt a great disturbance in the force, like a thousand decks across several formats suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has been printed
I'm sorry where did we get confirmation that this art was for shocklands? Please don't say "That looks like Hallowed Fountain therefor it's Hallowed Fountain".
Unfortunately every try hard from Sacramento to Shanghai preaches from the top of their 27 lands + Mana Reflection that Tooth and Nail and Time Stretch are fine to play in the same turn but Armageddon is unfair.
This picture shows an elf poking a doll with a needle. She is most likely Golgari, whose last Guild Champions were the gorgon Sisters of Stone Death. Although they are dead now, they're still probably idolized and they had snakes for hair.
Nissa uses a staff and has an intense fear of snakes. Urza help her if she is in Ravnica and they write gorgons back into existence.
I think this is pretty much confirmation that shocks are in. Enough confirmation for me anyway. We get a fountain art, and a big ass anvil (with stairs going up to it). Looks like Hallowed Fountain and Sacred Foundry to me.
There is one problem though: why should they put a Boros (and Dimir/ Azorius) land into RTR which doesn't even feature that guild? I can't imagine them printing all 10 shocklands in the first set immediately. Maybe it's art for the set after, but why would they show art from the set after?
As others have pointed out, we have had lots of artwork spoiled from the GTC set - i.e. for all ten guilds. This shouldn't surprise anyone at this point as there's nothing saying the Boros land has to be in RTR.
I'm willing to accept these as all-but-confirmation of Shocklands. If we didn't already know Sacred Foundry was a thing, that is the exact name I would guess for that artwork. Hallowed Fountain is similarly convincing.
Anvil and Fountain things look like Sacred Foundry and Hallowed Fountain, but the dimir thing? Original shocklands are as disconnected from their guilds as they can be, but this surprisingly sporting a dimir symbol. Plus, there already were two "Dimir land" - like things... one of which is likely signet, but still, isn't it too many of them? Although I can't complain on art quality, they look stunning.
And about elf - that's likely even not a creature spell - too many focus on a "girl is doing voodoo with doll and needle", not enough focus on girl itself. Planeswalker art is even more whole body- and pose-showing.

The original Ravnica Block also had 3 lands for each guild, the karoos, the guildhalls and the shocks.
honestly I'd rather not have to pay $20 for each of my lands so I'd rather they wouldn't be shocklands but I think that they are.
if they printed a different/new set of duals other than the shocks, they would end up being just as expensive (or more, if they are comparable in power level). especially considering this is a multicolor block, dual lands are going to be essential for standard and block players. reprinting shock lands will increase the supply and lower the price. brand new shiny lands would be brand new and likely more expensive.
tl,dr: supply and demand says reprints tend to make staples cheaper.

This.
I'm pretty sure its a new cycle of lands, and btw Karoo lands aren't coming back (Maro said multi-mana lands weren't popular and confused new players).

Stop being "that guy". There's a picture of what is clearly a foundry that has some sort of celestial energy radiating from it (sacred, if you will) and a picture of an important/respected fountain (hallowed). I'm not one that jumps to conclusions often, especially considering reprints, but they've given dozens of hints and even provided the new artwork. You're just being a jackass.
To anyone who isn't thoroughly convinced that the posted arts include Sacred Foundry, Hallowed Fountain, and most likely Overgrown Tomb, please excuse me while I try to ship the shocks I have so I can upgrade (at least visually, though the originals have nostalgic value) in the very near future.
A huge anvil-shaped platform surrounded by flowing "lava" or whatever is clearly a foundry and that piece of art with a giant fountain at the center of some buildings...believe what you want, but I'm going to go ahead and call this one, official proof or not.
It's widely known that [EDH] is very broken. Building a superdeck is quite easy. So what defines you as a player is [...] how you show restraint and creativity while still remaining a competitive player and a good sport.
the only problem with urza is that he is an oldwalker, so its abilities would be like:
+3: remove up to ten target permanents from the play
-2: win the game
-8: kick your opponents in the face, then win the game
starting loyalty: 100

Yah standard would get pretty crazy pretty fast.
I despise when others do this, but think
Turn 1: Breeding Pool; Arbor Elf
Turn 2: Glacial Fortress; Farseek for a Blood Crypt
At least playmat dude might have had lightning.
The golgari elf is playing with needles and dolls and probably has an affinity for gorgons. Nissa hates snakes.
This post made my head hurt in confusion...
Anyway, likely shocklands aside, I'm loving the art! I can't wait to see what they really are (all the art).
