THE DREDGE MECHANIC IS ACTUALLY COMING BACK. Makes sense. The new Dredge cards will be to old Dredge what Metalcraft was to Affinity. But they STILL won't take any chances. Sorry folks, no Manaless Ichorid in Standard. LoL. x.X I think.....
THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN. No one on design or development likes Dredge for a couple reasons, so it will never return in force. What may happen is there will be a "fixed" dredge but it will be a new mechanic and will likely be substantially weaker.
Considering how dredge warped standard during it's tenure just a few years ago, and with all the graveyard hate which will lead to "point-counterpoint" matches, pretty sure it's not coming back this soon.
Holy crap, Tormod's Crypt, the granddaddy of all graveyard hate will be standard legal? And also be introduced to Modern? Wait, or did it see a Timeshift, I can't remember... at any rate, wow. Between it and Grafdigger's Cage I suppose it will be that much harder to run a graveyard deck in Standard...
And Yeva... ummm... *throws her at sonic speed in to Elfball EDH deck*
IN YOU GO!
EDIT: Ah, yeah, it did get a Timeshift. At any rate, still totally awesome reprint.

Thank you.
I don't know how you can say no one in R&D likes Dredge, but then say thank you to the link that shows Maro wants to try Dredge again. Clearly at least one person likes Dredge, and that person also happens to be in charge of design. As long as the mechanic is done properly it isn't broken.
Yeva may replace Aluren in my Momir Vig deck...
I'll have to check her out for sure.

"Just" had was almost a year ago. Goblin Guide was the only thing that made RDW viable unfortunately, and he rotated out in September, which was 9 months ago. Whoever said it was competitive during INN standard was, sadly, delusional. Stromkirk Noble is horrible, and Stormblood was too inconsistent against the other aggressive strategies like Humans, as well as folding to Slagstorm against Wolf Run.
Oh, I thought he was talking about playing a spell that is countering a spell with counters on it as it comes into play, but I see you guys were just discussing whether he was flashing a creature with flash in order to flash a flashback or just flashing a creature with flash but not needing flash in order to flashback a spell without flash.
Very nice on the Tormod's Crypt reprint. Flavorful, good for Standard and in bad need of new art/Foil.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.

The first two weeks of Innistrad Standard. Week 1 had Mono Red face off in the finals and week 2 had mono red in 3rd place. It was a relevant deck at the beginning in Innistrad Standard.
I'm just rather confused why they decided to reprint Tormod's Crypt now of all times. Don't get me wrong, I love the card, it's a great sideboard piece, as well as something nice for EDH, and I am glad to see that it will get a modern frame. But it will rotate out of Standard at the same time as Grafdigger's Cage, so it just seems rather redundant to me.

I couldn't believe it when I saw Tormod's at first, but I welcome it. Yeva is bound to be crazy in some fashion, in EDH, probably in elves if they come back, and anywhere else that I don't play and don't know about so I won't really speak of.
I'm really impressed by Yeva. She's a good step towards establishing green as the primary flash color in reality, as opposed to just in theory. I could see a G/R aggro flash deck popping up.
Crippling Blight looks strong in limited aggro. I still don't have a handle on black in this set, though.
Speaking of black, Cower in Fear seems good. Instant speed on this effect adds a lot, I think.
Tormod's Crypt is nice to see again, although I kind of dislike the splash damage that the "fair" graveyard decks take due to the "unfair" graveyard decks.
I think people need to remember these sets were designed 2-3 years ahead of the current metagame. They had no clue what exactly would or wouldn't be huge decks right now.
Tormod's was decided to be reprinted following Innistrad most likely because of the heavy graveyard play in that block, and the potential graveyard based decks in RTR.

It was also very important that the format was weak to Koth - it meant that red decks could just run you over right away, or, they could actually grind you down in the middlegame a lot of the time as well. The deck just had a lot more consistent power - it has become "I beat you in 5 or i lose in 9".

Wow. Our elf lady is most lovely. Efficient for her mana cost and she has an incredibly desirable effect. AND SHE IS AN ELF. Making elves very relevant if we actually get usable elves. Out of the legends revealed so far she is by far the most playable.
Very nice on the Tormod's Crypt reprint. Flavorful, good for Standard and in bad need of new art/Foil.
What?
It was in TSP as old art, old frame foil.
The M13 art is from the FNM Foil.

Core sets are not designed that far in advance.
This is on purpose, so they can reprint 'fixer' cards, etc.

Disagreed. I'm fine with Green having Flash Creatures,
But Blue should be the primary home of Flash in general.
Blue is the "surprise" color, not Green.
Just my opinion.

Does anyone else think Crippling Blight is a great card because it's finally putting a them 'can't block' somewhere where it will actually be relevant/useful/possibly even GOOD? 'black enchantments' ?
I actually think this card is, from a Design perspective, the best card to use either 'can't block' OR '-1/-1 EOT' ever! Black really ought to want to Destroy things outright, unless Indestructible is around- but THIS card makes me think MAYBE 'F your creature' enchantments might be slowly moving from W/u -> B/U/w on the color wheel. There's room for all three colors to have them, but now that 'Exile is a Thing', White needs to lose power SOMEWHERE to Black in the removal field. Swords to Plowshares was A MISTAKE- at least insofar as it made White the BEST at killing things. I wouldn't even mind a StP REPRINT, IFF* when it happens, White is BEHIND Black in the 'efficient killing of things' dept. All I ask for the Color Pie to be mildly respected, and whenever you want to stretch things, at least try to keep the proportions right...Creature killing should go Red/Black tie, White/Blue tie, Green sucks for SPELLS, but it's the best at Combat and Combat-oriented abilities/spells.
(I'm counting Bounce as almost-Kill, and certainly Removal in that it will save you from the Combat step, though Destroy target thing is vastly superior to Bounce target thing. Green has no non-creature way to affect creatures, but Blue does, and you shouldn't really make White better at it than Blue)
I am probably every color-combination it is possible to be, though it's really hard to figure out what it would mean to be 4-colored....it doesn't seem logical to be 4-colored without being 5-colored.

Dude, they shift stuff over time.
Especially that much time.
Dosan was printed two blocks before Teferi. Color-shifting a mechanic printed two blocks ago to a card that was obviously pushed for standard is not good design.
Wizards themselves said that Teferi was only printed in Blue because the character is Blue. There has been no gradual movement of the "City of Solitude mechanic" to Blue because Teferi was a one-time deal.
The mechanic also really doesn't fit Blue. Blue doesn't hate on instants; it counters them. Green hates on instants because they counter its stuff or kill its stuff at "EoT".

He wants to revisit it in the same sense that Metalcraft is a revisit of Affinity. He likes the idea, but wants to fix it, and that cannot really be done without making a new dredge-like mechanic. The only other way to fix dredge is to errata it, and they do not do that.
I think people need to remember these sets were designed 2-3 years ahead of the current metagame. They had no clue what exactly would or wouldn't be huge decks right now.
It is actually about 16 months for non-core sets, I am not sure about core sets, perhaps 12 months.
