Multicolored cards aren't an advanced theme. I doubt any player has ever gotten confused by one. The advanced theme is buliding a proper mana base.
Now, as for Nicol Bolas possibly being uncastable in limited, M10 had Darksteel Colossus. Not every rare/mythic card is castable in limited and quite a few rares are practically useless in their limited format.
For those of you looking for that "leaked" M13 trailer
That... was actually pretty well done. Much better than the AVR trailer. Not quite the voice I would imagine for Nicol Bolas (I imagine him with a deep, thunderous and growly sort of voice, like the voice of the Cave of Wonders in Aladdin.). Still though, not bad at all.
And yeah, I really hope the key mechanic in M13 is multicolored cards. Mainly because I want some new multicolored cards for EDH.
The new Core sets often showcase stuff related to what's coming in the block just right after it. This is the first multicolor card in a core set ever, so there may be some more. This might be a sign that the next block is again multicolor oriented.
Or it just might be a single piece, a one of a kind uber mythic planeswalker as the only "different" card in the whole set and it also makes sense - he's that special. I mean if they showed any other single multicolor card than a planeswalker (or perhaps Progenitus) it would be a obvious sign there would be more multicolor cards in the set.
It might also hint that the main antagonist of the upcoming Hook is Nicol Bolas, too. Or a least that's what I wish! Putting him in a core set is a great way to remind/inform new players who he is.

They really should have broken out the checkbook and gotten Michael Dorn to do Bolas' voice.
Considering his extreme popularity, and the fact they are looking to do a big bang with this upcoming core set, I am putting my money on Bolas being in M13 and also being a major player in the storyline. Possibly even bleeding over into hook.
Hey, maybe we're finally going back to Dominaria. The last time we saw Bolas he was pulling some stunt to regain Old Spark style planeswalker powers, right?
Maybe he succeeded. If so, he will be our new god. I for one welcome our new elder dragon overlord.
I don't think new players need to worry about a perfect mana base -- they won't be doing anything majorly competitive. If they are, they'll learn quickly. I still remember the first deck I made on my own, it was U/W, using Plains, Islands, Glacial Fortress', and Azorius Chancerys. It wasn't much to grasp at all, really.
So the 5 orginal walkers. Swag. Very excited for m13 right now. Can't wait for deck builder's toolkit.:D
It was Ajani Vengeant not Goldmane that was shown in the video, so it seems that if they are going to have 5 besides Nicol it would be the 5 shown, which would mean AV as another gold card. Sounds good to me.

Except on the original image, you can see five cards behind the Nicol Bolas card, and all of them are mono-colored, one for each color.

Which PW do you think will be the white one? Goldmane is dead, replaced by Gideon in M12. If it's still Gideon, why wasn't he in the video as were the others? You may be right that it's 5 mono-colored PW. My guess is that it's a new Ajani V in mono white.

...what? Ajani Goldmane isn't dead. They wanted five new core planeswalkers for M12, so they pitched five entirely new designs, and the white and black ones weren't approved, so they pulled Gideon and Sorin in. Ajani Goldmane is still just as live as Liliana.
I think there's a decent chance of a "new" mono-white Ajani, although Goldmane would be pretty nuts in the current Standard.

In the story line in D12 it mentions that AV went in search of his brothers' killer and came across Nicol Bolas. They fought each other but it didn't end with either of them dying. It used the same art that was shown in this video for M13.
They used the Lightning Helix art from AvB, as well as Jaces Injinuity, and probably some other cards I missed.
Another hint that more multicolor cards could be comming.
Also, that Ajani art is from the PT promo a year ago.

Art doesn't matter, also, WOTC explained this too, Ajani Goldmane is the OLDER, more experienced and wisened version than what we saw in Shards block, shards block was when his spark had JUST ignited...
They used the Vengeant artwork because it looked cool... nuff said...
As for a sixth walker in the core set in Bolas.... I like it... need more bolas in circulation, can't seem to get him for less than 20 bucks..lol, and I need 2 for my grixis control deck in modern...
I hope multicolor does get featured in the core set though, that would rule if they reprinted Lightning Helix....at common...

Yes, that's the plot of Alara block. Ajani defeated (but did not kill) Bolas.
Vindicate's current issue is Snapcaster Mage. Them together in Standard would not be a good idea.
Not to single you out, but this is like the 100th time I've seen this sentiment,
and I just have one thing to say: Tragic Slip
Of course Vindicate is more powerful (against noncreature permanents, anyway),
but Slip is one of the strongest removal spells ever printed,
absolutely the best one mana removal available to Black.
They obviously didn't realize just how popular Snapcaster would be,
yet they still printed Slip despite this.
If they planned for Vindicate to be in AVR,
Vindicate will be in AVR.
Extra ditto Path to Exile.
Snapcasting that is just going to lead to a massive Mana advantage for your opponent,
rendering Mana Leak worthless.
Note this doesn't mean I think either of these will be in AVR;
I'm just willing to admit that they could be in AVR.
To me, the Snapcaster argument against Vindicate holds no water.
The 3CMC Land Destruction argument is quite a bit more valid,
but I still don't think it's completely out of the question for Vindicate to see reprint. 1WB is quite a bit more resrtictive than 2R, and Stone Rain has seen a couple of Modern-legal reprints.

Going back to Bolas, I don't think they would reprint it in M13 without making a cycle of five tricolored walkers. It would break the color pie's symmetry. An abomination.
If we do get other tricolored walkers, though, I'd bet on Ajani being RGW.

Jace, Chandra, and Garruk are most certainly going to be their M12 version since i doubt Wizards would make all new core set walkers and just use them for only one core set. Ajani has a high chance of being a new mono white version and I hope he does. black is Liliana I guess but of all the original 5, she's the character I'm actually least interested in.
while they havent done multicolor in core sets before, I think it makes sense if we are indeed returning to ravnica. Especially since multicolor is so popular and really not that complicated necessarily. High fives imo!!

The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
I think this could be legit. I was at the pax wotc panel and indeed we are going to ravnica.
Five mono color planeswalkers for a standard coreset and ONE SINGLE gold card in the entire set. If Nicol Bolas, planeswalker is indeed in M13 then I believe it would be easier to just have a single gold card in it for the sole purpose that Bolas is tri-colored. The tip cards can easily define how to play a gold card. On a sidenote I am saddened by the reappearance of Jace at the Return to Ravnica spoil. I say either bring back Jace 1.0 or Jace 2.0 and we know 2.0 is never coming back in the next two decades (maybe as a judge)
