I still don't really see the flavor reasons behind putting it (exalted) in black, but well there it is.

Brian Tinsman, Set Designer :?mana::snow::snow:
Legendary Creature – Human Designer (MR)
Brian Tinsman, Set Designer can only be cast during the third set of a block.
When Brian Tinsman, Set Designer enters the battlefield, ignore all flavor and mechanics of the first two sets in the block. "Ok so what do we have here... gothic horror? Scrap it. Expand the Devine Vs. Demonic duel deck to 244 cards and print it!"

I'm talking about the pack with Liliana on it. That is said to be the booster pack. I don't understand how a booster box of those things could work. I also see that the larger packaging would end up taking more space in hobby stores. The only thing I see is that the cardboard booster packaging is similar to a blister pack, and what's inside is the actual booster.
Because we all know, opening blister packs is a pain.
Oh, sorry I thought that was the back of the package for some odd reason.
But still, they have had boosters in blister packs for quite a while and the Walmarts of the world have always sold them that way (for as long as I've seen the cards at Walmart). They've just updated the packaging it looks like.

So basically the cardboard casing replaces the blister, and NOT the foil wrapper? If the cardboard casing replaced the foil wrapper, then WOTC did something seriously stupid.
I am thinking it is the former case. The product image you see would be EXCLUSIVE to mass retailers, and for hobby stores, we will see the traditional 15 cards in a foil wrapper.
Also, what they should have done with the intro packs is to include a deck box with it. Pokemon did it, I don't see why MTG can't.
The pack may not be cardboard..it could be like Lego has been doing with the Hero Factory line, and be in that kinda bag.
yeah, but I don't see how a bag could hold its shape like that, unless they are wasting materials by putting some plastic inside the bag to make the booster pack have that shape.
If the new packaging is indeed replacing the foil wrapper, I don't understand why WOTC needs to do it. The new packaging only takes up more space, sort of like how Theme Decks became intro packs, and an area that could have held 24 theme decks now only holds 10 intro packs.
You probably couldn't fit 36 of these babies in a AVR booster box box.

Why can't that just be the blister card back without the blister/booster pack attached? Remember, these were in a vendor brochure (Something meant to sell the product to the store, I believe) at a Target. I'd imagine this is just the new look of retail blister packages, but what we're seeing here is how they will look without the plastic bubble/booster pack on them.
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.

I don't get what you're trying to say.
I'm saying, is this new booster packaging replacing the blister bubble and cardboard backing, and when you open it, you will find 15 cards wrapped in the conventional foil wrapper, which is a good idea, or is this new packaging replacing the foil wrapper itself, which is a dumb idea.

Ok, you know how with the current blister packs, you have a transparent plastic bubble attached to a cardboard backing that holds the booster pack inside? I'm suggesting that this is just a new design for that cardboard backing, and what we're seeing in this image is that cardboard backing without the plastic bubble and booster pack placed on it. So it will still be your standard cardboard backing+bubble, only with a different art design on the card.
...why are we making the claim that m13 will likely take place on alara based on 1 card mentioning grixis? the core sets have had references to other sets in the past, yes, largely in flavor text, but still.
The "overlord of Grixis" is a mono-black demon with Exalted?
Yeah, I think Sedris and Bolas have a bit of an edge in that field, buddy.
Still, looks like a fun card. Black doesn't make much flavorful sense with the ability name Exalted, but the idea of only attacking with a single, super-powerful creature is very Black in flavor, just like the loner mechanic.
I'm actually glad that this doesn't have an enters the battlefield trigger. I am absolutely sick and tired of seeing this game turn into Enters the Battlefield: The Gathering. Between creatures like Stoneforge Mystic, Snapcaster Mage, Vendilion Clique, Squadron Hawk, the Titan cycle, and others, I've had more than my fill of creatures with overpowered ETB abilities.
Amen to that. Creatures are supposed to attack and block, not be glorified instants and sorceries. Yeah, they die to removal, but there are better ways to circumvent that problem (Starting with Haste).
No, but I do think I can blame everyone seeing every last legendary demon and thinking they had something to do with Liliana.
Malfegor, Rakdos, the list keeps going. I hate that everyone always grasps at straws.
If the demon is going to have something to do with Liliana, that's what they'll lead with, not hold it back for a surprise.
I'm trying to imagine Rakdos, the Defiler bargaining with Lili. It's would be like if Borborygmos was revealed to be the real mastermind of Szadek's Ravnica plot.

The wedding is over. Now it's time for the honeymoon.
I think it is everyone getting out of the way of the powerful dude in the room, but that is only for big creatures.
I bet they will explain it when M13 starts rolling around.
The other black exalted card we have seen was a cleric of this guy, Nefarox, so it makes some sense that it is the typical version of exalted, to hold up or worship but more culty "I worship the dark lord for power" and less "look at that shiny example of knighthood"

Oh, that. Then what's the point of having a cool liliana image on it if the booster pack itself is going to cover it?
Why would anyone show just the cardboard backing of a blister pack for a product image? It makes no sense.
There are only 2 things I see. The image we see is actually a cardboard box. A thin one, but a box nonetheless. That box replaces the cardboard and plastic bubble of conventional blister packs. Great idea. Blister packs are hard to open.
The second alternative is that that cardboard box is replacing the foil wrapper itself. The dumbest idea, well OK, not THE dumbest idea, but it is up there. If they are indeed doing it this way, then they don't know the meaning of shelf space.
I don't mind the intro pack packaging, since yugioh has already done it, but I want an explaination from WOTC as to why they changed the booster packaging, if the second reason is true.
I wonder if RTR will also have the 2 booster intro pack setup, or will this be core set only?
On topic of M13 happening in Alara- the last time there were legends in a core set (10th edition), it didn't take place on any one specific plane. Though most of those legends (Kamahl, Phage, Multani, Mirri, Arcanis, etc) were from Dominaria, not all of them were. Cho-Manno was in that set too, he was originally from Mercadia.
Plus, core sets don't have story lines. They might have tiny little flavor tidbits (like the trailer for M12 from last summer, or the campaign in DotP), but I don't think it does justice to say that a core set would take place all on one specific plane.
On another note, this Nefarox feels so odd to me- he's a legend from Alara that isn't multicolored and has the title of "Overlord of Grixis". I know Alara of course has had multicolored legend(s) like Rakka Mar, but this guy was never even heard of in any of the flavor info of Alara and you'd think someone claiming to be the Overlord of an entire 5th of the plane would be some sort of bigwig.
I guess this guy would be very post-conflux. I hope they give some sort of background when they eventually introduce him.
In conclusion, I would guess that WotC's making a line of these legends, but I don't think they'll all be from Alara. I think these first bits we're seeing are just focusing on a part of M13 that happens to align itself with Alara.
I hope the other legends are better than this guy...
In regards to the booster pack, the yellow band on the corner appears to say "New Look, Same Booster Pack!". That, along with the curved edges along the side of the package and Hasbro's announcement a while back about eliminating non-recyclable plastic from their packaging, leads me to believe that the retail boosters at the very least will be in a cardboard sleeve or minibox, akin to WoW TCG Treasure Packs are.
As for booster box packs... I'm guessing we'll end up with some kind of paper wrapper, I suppose.

I'm already thinking of him as an opportunist. He's not actually the overlord of Grixis, but he parades around with that title to attract worshipers. And as long as he doesn't run into competitionof anykind, he can continue with the charade.
That's why he has Exalted; he's a preening peacock who wants to be treated like a God, even though he's really just an above-average demon who's gotten a bit big for his britches. It's also why he only works when he attacks alone; he wants to be the center of attention, him, him! Sedris is charismatic and works with an army, Malfegor annihilates the foe, and Bolas is a schemer, but when Nefarox fights, he makes sure that he's being stylish.
Yeah, all of this is just fanon, but it fits the card, and it makes Nefarox a thousand times funnier for me.

I agree, but I think it could rather be that this guy came in long after the Shards block. Alara will be a different world, and chances are good that Malfegor and Sedris are (I want to say Malfegor was killed in the book, but I can't recall if he was actually killed off). And Bolas seems way too busy to mill around Alara for very long.
Plus, I could totally see some giant crusade being raised in Bant to go slay some demons and some dragons and fun stuff like that. You know, epic fantasy knights doing what epic fantasy knights do. Thus, opportunist demon Nefarox decides to step up to the plate in Grixis.
So I think it's either Nefarox thinks he's a big tough guy, pretending that the other major players aren't around, or the other major players are actually all gone.
Hmm, legendary in M13 is good, it would be a good way for introducing beginner players to legendary creatures, and there's multicolor as well so no big surprise. The creature is strong too. But giving exalted to none Bant colors is a little off. Hopefully they would reprint Noble Hierarch just to keep it off the $20 range, or that might give the opposite effect, oh well.
#1 - What's the dumbest idea you ever had?
#2 - 15/15 for 15?
#1 - Make it dumber
#2 - Give it protection from removal and counter?
#1 - DUMBER!
#2 - Add Timewalk?
#1 - DAMN IT MAN, I SAID DUMB!! DUMB !!!
#2 - It destroys everything when it attacks.... And wait, I have a friend who plays mill decks... I want to beat him too.
#1 - Excellent! Recess is over, go back and learn sex-ed with the other 6th graders.
confirms the exalted black cleric as x of Nefarax.
I had a conversation with a buddy earlier about how the clerics could be summoning some demon that prefered attacking alone thats why the black clerics have exalted.
