why is an area of zendikar that was associated with red, now associated with enchantments... something which is decidedly not red?
i like it from a mechanics standpoint, but not at all from a flavor standpoint.
Because Akoum has ties to Green and White mana through it's crystal fields and life blooms. I imagine the flavour is more along the lines of the life blooms, green mana pockets that spring up suddenly after seismic events.
I wonder what deck this is in
Not bad. Definitely biased towards an enchantment deck, whereas most planes are more accessible to all decks.
There are plenty of planes that heavily favor colors over the others, so branching into card types isn't too odd, I don't think. An interesting dynamic to the design space of planes, IMO.

Then it should have been Khalni Gardens, not Akoum.

There's certainly nothing wrong with it. I can think of at least a couple planes that heavily prefer green or black.
Also, destroying creatures is red/black, so it's not that far off?
I like the interplay between the two abilities. Enchantments are a fairly significant part of the identity of Zendikar so it's not too much a of stretch that this involves enchantments. Red doesn't interact with enchantments in general and the auras of Zendikar have a heavy protective theme in the form of totem armor. I think the flavor is that being enchanted will protect you from the land itself since it's a red aligned land.
Also anything that encourages people to play more enchantments is fine with me.
This is one of few planes that I find ultra lame. It is so obviously a plant for the aura deck, and will be a do nothing plane until someone rolls chaos. 3/10

Ya, I'm kind of wishing the planes had some flavor text.

Brian Tinsman, Set Designer :?mana::snow::snow:
Legendary Creature – Human Designer (MR)
Brian Tinsman, Set Designer can only be cast during the third set of a block.
When Brian Tinsman, Set Designer enters the battlefield, ignore all flavor and mechanics of the first two sets in the block. "Ok so what do we have here... gothic horror? Scrap it. Expand the Devine Vs. Demonic duel deck to 244 cards and print it!"
2/2
Easy, easy. An accurate storyline-pun flaming is still flaming. Warning issued.
-Car.
The point stands though -- even if the chaos ability is black, the first part isn't... and since they aren't afraid of making up planes, why not make up one for this one instead of using Akoum?
My guess is that the areas of zendikar have no color affiliation. The use of zendikar place names both on the land cycle and on this plane are completely random and unrelated. They probably chose a zendikar location because Totem Armor is from RoE, which takes place on zendikar.

"In the beginning, MTG Salvation switched to a new forum format.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
It was at that moment that I realized: I'm kinda just making these things up. We can just write the rules the way we want them to work. People will have fun, and people will get it.

Zendikar's area-color association is a mess. Kazandu Blademater is a white card, yet Kazandu Refuge is red-green.
As for the card itself.... Totem Armor, much?
which is at least allied with red/green.
akoum is red/black. neither of which do enchantments. this is like making llanowar sacrifice creatures and work with the graveyard.

It's a flavourful interpretation of a particularly hazardous region - if you're not prepared, you're going to die. Exactly what Plane cards should be.
There's certainly nothing wrong with it. I can think of at least a couple planes that heavily prefer green or black.

Well, enchantments mattering is really white -- See Winds of Rath. The flavor seems a bit odd at first sure, but I'm glad we get to see more Zendikar.

True. Definitely nice to see Zendikar again.
Also, Winds of Rath should totally be in the aura deck.

A card from way back in Tempest is not indicative of the current colour pie.
True.
How about Demystify
War Priest of Thune
or Open the Vaults.
Or just look at the very very large number of white enchantments.

White very easily interacts with an manipulates enchantments. This plane shows more of r/b's inability to interact with enchantments.
by interacting with them?
Destroying creatures that aren't enchanted isn't interacting with enchantments.
