Wow, that body, that cascade cost, that mana cost. It's two cascades, on top of being a universal haste effect? WOW!
Wait, this ISN"T Commander2.0? Really? Way to get my hopes up, then throw it to the ground and smash it.
Still, I live planechase to an extent. It's not Archenemy(ugh), but they always are good to play with newer players, who doesn't care too much.
Also, one note, if they keep making these new cards that are only useful for casual play, I'm digging them. I like how they say, "look, I know we make cards that don't really appeal to everyone's interest. But hey, if it makes you feel any better, have some toys to play with."
The announcement says there are going to be new Commander-oriented products in the future too, so don't fret too much.
How ****! Its 2.00 am in my country but this filled me with excitement!!
I hope the new WBR legend supports Kaalia in some way, like this Maelstrom guy supports Riku and Animar very well...
I personally hated planechase, it was pretty degenerate at what it do. so much that people stop playing magic and the rolled die. It was mostly, oh is it plane i like, if no then i keep rolling if yes then i'll cast something. And basically every player had their own plane they wanted to be on, so endless die rolls occured. Of it was just a full rotation on a plane i think i would of much rather deal with that. Atleast this time planechase would be as much as a failure since they are basically running it with edh cards. What don't like planechase buy it anyway, u'll break it apart as soon as u buy it and have new edh generals.
So I'm guessing the phenomena cards go into the deck of Planechase cards? The whole "perils that lurk between planes" and "Planeswalk away from this phenomenon." things seems to indicate that, I guess. Seems pretty cool. I'm also looking forward to seeing a New Phyrexia plane and possibly a few Innistrad-related Planechase cards also. Cool stuff, WotC.
thank god. its about time. wish planechase had more consistent releases. so much more fun than archenemy but with only a limited number of planes to jump to we got bored after a few months.
This reeks of pure awesomeness!
Maybe a multicoloured ninja legend.
Great Idea! I haven't thought about a multicolored Ninja but if there shoud be one i would so totally build an edh deck around him, even if he should be a vanilla creature
Edit: I bet the Maelstorm Wanderer is from the Chaos Reigns Deck.
I find it hilarious that the most common reaction is some variant of "this looks neat for my EDH deck."
And I think they knew this would happen. The announcement looks to be geared towards an audience that loves EDH but doesn't really care about Planechase.
I think they realized that Planechase 2 wouldn't sell, so they made Commander 1.5 and dressed it up as Planechase 2.

Unless they change the rules for some reason, when you reveal a Phenomenon card, you'll put the ability on the stack like normal and when the ability is done resolving, you'll put the Phenomenon on the bottom of the planar deck. Then, you'll reveal the next card.
anybody else confused about the FOUR decks debuting a new cycle of FIVE legendary creatures? will one of them be the clear winner, or will they balance this somehow?

Personally I love both. Sure the deck will probably get scrapped to go into EDH deck(s), but the planes will still be used... possibly with the EDH decks (if you want the game to be completely broken, which is fun occasionally).
That elemental...
is awesome.
It's going into my Horde of Notions deck soon.
For all the Riku people, would you copy the Wanderer? Just for the cascade, cascade, cascade, cascade, but no Wanderers, or copy whatever you cascade into? I'm just curious about that.
Pretty cool. I wasn't into Planechase the first time it came around, but I might check it out since they're printing new cards for it. I just hope between Planechase and Commander, they don't go overboard with the "These cards are only legal for Eternal formats" thing. Also, Modern is an Eternal format right? So these are legal in Modern?

No, the new cards in Commander aren't legal in Modern and these almost certainly won't be either.

it clearly says Eternal formats, and Modern is an Eternal format. So i'm under the assumption that yes, these planechase 2 cards will be legal in modern. And you're welcome to quote me on that. They wouldn't just say Eternal and not mean all of the eternal formats, since there are exactly 3.
Vintage, Legacy, and now Modern.
The 51 new cards will be legal in Eternal formats (that's Vintage and Legacy), but they will not be legal in Standard, Extended, or Block Constructed.
Back when planechase 1 was announced, they were all reprints, but when they mentioned the commander products, they did specifically state Eternal formats, but they highlighted that by saying Vintage and Legacy. Since (i'm sure, at that point, they knew they were going to shortly announce Modern) but they didn't mention it yet. Sadly. I still do believe since now Modern is an official Eternal Format, and they didn't specifically state this time around that they were only Vintage/Legacy legal, this would include Modern in the announcement as legal sets for these new cards.

Oh I'm sorry.
Thanks for the laugh, but isn't the exact definition of eternal a non rotating format? Of which Modern is.
There isn't an official Arcana that announces Modern, however i'm hoping that these will be modern legal. and if not, that sucks, but i'll live. The announcement for Commander was done in december 2010, whereas Modern was "revealed" to be an official format as of August of this year.
Both of which kinda point to my assumption being correct, but assumptions are just that, non fact.

^Also yes, I was confused about that.
Edit: This is even more ridiculous given the haste granting. Combos that require tapping are fair game.
