People are acting like this is going to have an immediate decline on Koth/Venser prices, but this thing doesn't come out until February right as standard prices start to climb again. Unless these PW aren't seeing play it won't have nearly the hit on prices that EvT did for Elspeth.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
(As much as the fan service in this game yields a whole lot of T&A, every once in a while they toss something in for the rest of us. I applaud that. I mean, it's still art depicting fictional characters, but still.)
All I know is that if I can get this set for retail it means my son can have walkers that are legal for me not pitching a kidney to the black market.
Hear, hear. If the decklist is good, you'll have certain outlets gouging, but the great thing about these decks is that they'll be available at Wal-Mart/Target/etc.
Nice, 2 standard Planeswalkers having reprints with sweet new arts. Hopefully the Koth deck side would have Magus of the Moon or Blood Moon or both of them to make this worthwhile buying. And that Koth sybergizes really well with those two cards, if they do make it into the deck then I would get 4 of these the moment it comes out.
#1 - What's the dumbest idea you ever had?
#2 - 15/15 for 15?
#1 - Make it dumber
#2 - Give it protection from removal and counter?
#1 - DUMBER!
#2 - Add Timewalk?
#1 - DAMN IT MAN, I SAID DUMB!! DUMB !!!
#2 - It destroys everything when it attacks.... And wait, I have a friend who plays mill decks... I want to beat him too.
#1 - Excellent! Recess is over, go back and learn sex-ed with the other 6th graders.
Koth is going to be a nice beatdown/burn deck. Nothing wrong with that.
With Venser, it's either a blue-white artifact deck (ala Nuts & Bolts from Fifth Dawn), or a blue-white tap/bounce deck.
Who here agrees?
Venser the planeswalker card does nothing with artifacts, so that option seems unlikely to me. The blue-white blink deck is such a classic that I think a lot of people love, and Venser plays into it so well, I think we can consider it just about proven that his deck will be that kind of deck. By the way, how cool would it be if Crystal Shard makes it in?
Koth will certainly have burn and beats, but I hope it's not just another clunky RDW deck -- I love RDW, but essentially repeating Chandra's deck would be disappointing. Where else can they go with it? Ramping mana into big red threats is fairly classic, but the Dragons deck has that pretty well covered. Blood Moon effects and a lot of LD spells would be interesting, but it's very hard to imagine wizards doing that in a DD. So I really don't know where they'll go with it. If I was in charge of duel decks I'd make Venser vs Sarkhan, as I think a Fires-type midrange beats deck with Sarkhan would be a pretty entertaining DD option.
Seems slightly odd that this year we're getting a deck with planeswalkers from two years ago (Ajani Vengeant and Nicol Bolas), while next year we're getting planeswalkers from this year. Where's Sorin vs Gideon or Nissa vs Sarkhan (the Mad)?

Id think its better to print these decks with PW that will be in standard.
Sorin vs Gideon seems possible, if only a little bit likely. (Given Gideon has a very heavy "knight" flavor, and players will be a little fed-up with vampires after ISD.)
I think that the best idea would be to pit two ISD planeswalkers vs. each other.
So happy that they are making alternate art for Koth. He looks like he's wearing lipstick in the normal art.
Yeah, I wasn't a fan of Jason Chan's Koth either. This new Deschamps art looks clean, and I like that he is in motion actually doing something. In Chan's Koth art, he's just standing there all boring-like.

All I really have to say is that I hope Koth's Courier isn't in Koth's deck.
Unlikely. Unless Wizards really just wants to troll us for flavor and with Venser's deck being WU, a forestwalker is just useless.
I want this just for the walkers, because I don't have them. Hilariously, I'd love to see Sarkhan Vol vs. Sarkan the Mad. The dragon mage battling his own inner demons. Too bad, that this sets up bad (feeling) game play if both are played.
I hope the venser deck contains tech like mulldrifter, wall of omens, man-o'-war, and to backup the exiling part: flickerwhisp. That would basically be the deck I built and it's so much fun to play
Think I'll buy these decks either way. I'm not fond of red but I do like Koth.
From the description in the Arcana, the "conflict" this represents is Koth trying to bully Venser into coming to save Mirrodin. Which was resolved quite quickly in the webcomic by Koth sealing Venser's head in rock and forcing him to go. A whole duel is much more satisfying, though, and is closer to resembling an actual story event than Elspeth vs. Tezzeret ever was.
TBH I got the impression this is more of a duel over whether or not they go to find Karn, which would happen after Venser's kidnapping; because earlier he didn't really know about all that other stuff.
Honestly now that I think about it...we're there ANY duel decks that were good or worth getting. In my opinion, not really. Still I may get this because both card art works look simply AMAZING. I mean I guess lilana vs. garack and angel vs. demonic were alright but usually I ended up getting them to get certain cards for edh or decks I have that werent type 2.
All the duel decks are a blast to play. It's a game. We buy games so we can play them with other people, and that's the point of the product. You don't take apart the components of a video game and sell it for scraps.
The difference is, this game just so happens to have components that can be sold as such, and of course that's all any competitive player cares about— how to get more for their buck.

making a deck is an incredibly important part of the game though =/
you're really missing out if you just want to play with premade decks rather than having a say for yourself and choosing the cards to include.
I'd really love to have burn spells with wither in Koth's deck, but since that didn't appear in Scars nor is really good against decks that blink -assuming Venser does that- I guess I'll just have to keep waiting for wither to come back...
Oh, right, dead.
Rest in Peace, sweet baby angel.

But I'd still be very interested in this. Cool to see them using newer planeswalkers.

right on man! except... that venser art is disgusting. I love venser, and that art sucks big time. His left foot looks deformed, and No helmet??? WTF?
A huge thanks to Argetlam and the guys at Hakai studios for this awesome banner

is it just me, or does koth's left hand remind anyone of Flames of the Blood Hand?
