It's funny that they're busy hyping all the way up to issue #3 already, and yet issue #1 doesn't hit shelves for another 5 weeks. It's like reading spoilers for the first issues at this point.

The info is from IDWs February 2012 solicitation to retailers, so that retailers can place their orders. Standard fare for the industry.

Comics normally solicit 3-4 months out as retailers have to order their supplies that far out in order for them to receive the correct amounts. Soliciting allows the publisher to gauge order numbers and be able to meet demand. Comics do not have an unlimited print run and therefore are generally printed to just above order numbers.
By soliciting this far out the publisher, IDW, can gauge fan interest and be able to meet demand. Magic and comics often overlap for fans in the marketplace but I fear that not all Magic fans will know to place an order somewhere for this. Hopefully hobby shops are intuitive enough to overorder to meet demand.
Advance mail order might be your best shot then, most places offer that kind of service now.
Could you suggest a few reliable retailers that could do a subscription? I'm a little puzzled that you can't just get a subscription with IDW. It seems a little tedious to preorder each comic separately.
That weapon of his is really odd. Doesn't suit the character; weird bone piece dagger. I guess he uses it because of its ability, or the knowledge he gains through it.
Will be interested in knowing if this dagger will become an important item in the MTG universe, and if it'll get a card. Liliana's veil should get a card too...

I assume it will be another Dark Ascension card. If the rumor is true, the second issue contains Faithless Looting.

Agreed. I really hate this style. I wish they'd stick to illustrations that look like they could be off an actual Magic card.
