So, Ravnica II after Innistrad? Ajani in Innistrad?
Not at all. New characters in D12 (and any expansions) won't necessarily be showing up on real cards any time soon. And planeswalkers can show up in blocks with settings that they're not native to; Ral Zarek here could be in a block set on any plane, and still have art that shows his home, Ravnica.
But a return to Ravnica in a block setting wouldn't happen for years from now at the earliest.
Being part of a Duels expansion doesn't really mean anything in terms of storyline either, as far as I know. So Ajani's just there because he matches the deck's colors and theme, like how Rhys's deck in the previous Duels has nothing to do with his character, he was just there for the colors.
Just about the only thing that could keep me (financially) in this game beyond another year would be a Ravnica revisit. I hope this is foreshadowing in that direction.
He's definitely Izzet and that bears more than a passing resemblance to Ravnica.
Totally. I can only hope this means we're going back to Ravnica. Or if that is somehow Innistrad, I love the urban setting, so I'm definitely hooked flavorwise. Ral is an awesome name for a walker, too.

Ravnica, though, was the second block following Mirrodin block. A revisit seven years later would feel natural.
I'll agree that he could be a member of Izzet League, but he doesn't look like he is on Ravnica. The only dark scenes that are in Ravnica are the Orzhov churches and other black cards. We have one image from Innistrad, and there we have a dark scene. Both scenes include castles. This scene takes place on Innistrad.
go go izzet walker! (if not literally izzet, RU at least)!
Speculation: Niv mizzet turned into a person neo-walker! :D:D jk, but boy would that be nuts
EDIT: oh right, he has a name. well i was kidding anywhays so whatever
if this never becomes a card someday ill be a sad lil panda for sho

The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
Oh my he looks quite fun.
And if that's what INN is going to look like it may very well be a return to the RAV block.

Brian Tinsman, Set Designer :?mana::snow::snow:
Legendary Creature – Human Designer (MR)
Brian Tinsman, Set Designer can only be cast during the third set of a block.
When Brian Tinsman, Set Designer enters the battlefield, ignore all flavor and mechanics of the first two sets in the block. "Ok so what do we have here... gothic horror? Scrap it. Expand the Devine Vs. Demonic duel deck to 244 cards and print it!"

And we've been told explicitly that Scars block was a test for the idea of revisiting one of the "one-off" planes we've been visiting for the past several years. Another block like that won't have even been started until the public's reactions to this block were received. Which means such a thing would be starting right around now (or a few months ago). Blocks don't get printed until after two years more after they're started.
If I may quote myself from the Innistrad topic a bit ago:
I'm still pretty sure these characters have a bigger purpose than just being used in Duels and being possibly vaguely Future Sight style glimpses. They've been created for a reason. As planeswalkers, they're the faces of Magic. They're going to get used.
More recent statement takes precedent, I say. We don't know whether or not Brady's mind has changed by now, so Doug's comment is what we have to rely on.
It looks like he's either powering a weather-manipulating device, or using it to power himself. I like to think the former, because it doesn't seem very "Planeswalky" to rely on a machine for powars.
About any "subpar" mechanics or cards: Context is king.
If I make a templating or grammar error, let me know.
The franchise MtG most resembles is Battlestar Galactica. Why? Its players exist in, at most, a dozen different models at any given point in time, with perhaps up to 3% variation, 5% if you're lucky.
New Jace art posted:
"Ya I use mill for a wincon, it's pretty obscure so you may not have heard of it."
Ral art:
"Ladies? You may want to stand back as I'm about to drop some mad crazy SCIENCE in your atmosphere. Nono, I'm with the Izzet, you're going to need at least 50 feet for this."

To be honest it looks izzet, and like ertai.
Like a cool non-corrupted ertai,I think its the hair.
Like that mermaid chick it might be a while before we see a card version.
The only clues we get are from its duel deck and picture, but like how everyone said that nissa looks black and green, and even though her duel deck is black and green she came out just green.
Cool names for his planes walker card :
ral zarek,storm chaser
Ral zarek lighting breather
Ral zarek,cooler ertai
Ral zarek, that Mother****er that isn't a planeswalker card even though wizards paid for its art and looks sweet but might only be for a video game, the dragon armed.
Take your monoblack deck, then set aside 14 swamps. Add 4 Creeping Tar Pits, 4 Darkslick Shores, 4 Drowned Catacombs, and 2 Jwar isle Refuge and add 4 Jace, the Mindsculptors. Your monoblack deck is instantly better. Better yet, drop those refuges, throw in some islands and some mana leaks, and lo and behold, you're now playing a real deck. Congratulations. Welcome to the world of competitive M:TG.

His background looks like Ravnica & he looks like Izzet style.
But Guilds were gone in current of Ravnica...

Current post- Grand Prix KC Modern Postmortem (7/7/13)
Confirmed as a new plane. They mentioned they intentionally did a new one right after Scars to gauge reaction to the re-use of the setting.

And as far as I can tell, the Mind Sculptor art is Unused in the game as of now.
I don't know if I should be dumping all this info I dig up in here, but I don't think it merit's it's own thread. Just interesting stuff.

:o...I'm sorry...:o:o:o???
Yes, what planeswalker in history has ever relied on machines to do things? I can't think of a single relevant character that ever really used machines like that, nor any who exist now. It's just absurd to think otherwise. AB. SURD.

Though the plane behind him might be Ranvnica, but it might be Innistrad.
Very interesting. We'll have to wait to see what's up with this.
