I agree that the other vampire legend would be Falkenrath or Stromkirk. It's Uta Falkenrath, not Voldaren.
Oh. Yeah.
Man, do I look dumb.
But still... you can only have so many legendary and/or planeswalker characters from the same non-human race running around in a single block (unless it's Kamigawa). Olivia plus Sorin plus maybe Edgar would be more than enough, with all the other races needing face time too, and Edgar is much more likely to see cardboard than a flavor text character.

Zendikar block....had three vampire legends...and the first Sorin. We need zero more vampire legends.
This is probably just a regular vampire, with a snake. Snakes aren't exactly rare on Innistrad. And they're pretty natural to hang around vampires, seeing how they share some physical qualities such as fangs, cold blood, and a gift for stealth. I seriously doubt Uta Voldaren would be the only one who had an affinity for them.
I like the casual look to Sorin in that first pic. It definitely suggets the time-worn, but still tremendously dangerous, nature of his being. It's the stance of someone who knows they can kill you fairly effortlessly, and who is supremely confident in their abilities.
The goth caster chick is ok, but it's kind of a forgettable piece.
Snake vampire lady? Freakin awesome. I love the lighting, textures, everything. The use of shadows is wonderful, as it masks the majority of her outfit, but the little bits you do see are very evocative of the scale patterns on the snakes around her (diamond-shaped knots on her leggings, etc). Seriously cool.
As for Sorin I can see white represented in the artwork, not based on being bathed in intense moonlight, which has been featured in every color so far, but because of the searing white energy at his fingertips. It's pretty uncharacteristic of black to use such a spell, Sorin in particular being a vampire, typically brutal and bloodthirsty. Vampire magic thus far has been depicted as ritualistic, not really energetic. Story wise white can fit as a colour since he's coming back to his home plane as a protector, presumably.

The overall look and feel of the pic suggests as much.
Also, he no longer looks like a careless and ambitious killer, he handles his weapon kind of casually and IMHO emanates some sort of righteousness...
The issues I have are the complaints about the artwork on the cards today from the same people. While I'm old school in my feelings toward Magic art, what's being put out there today is SO much better than the early years of card art. While Jesper had a great mind about the feel of Magic and the artwork needed to represent a creature...his abilities were very primitive.
That said...I think the art for these cards is excellent. I really like the dark feel of them all.

Here's the breakdown of current mono-color Planeswalkers:
WW - 4
UU - 4
BB - 3
RR - 4
GG - 4 (Garruk Relentless costs no black to cast, so I'm counting him mono-green.
That to me shows we need another mono-black walker. But it doesn't mean anything, I guess.
Sorin's clothes are the same as his original appearance. Every other planeswalker that has changed colors at some point also had a change of wardrobe as well. This makes it very easy to identify which "version" of the character you're seeing just by looking at them. If Sorin were actually getting a WB card for some inexplicable reason, he would have different clothes as well, to make clear the distinction between that that version and mono-black SOrin.

Due to her obvious affinity with snakes, including her clothing patterns, I'm pulling for a DFC. Human or vampire that transforms into a snake. Hopefully, no matter what she is, its a card as good as its art.

I second this sentiment. I started playing Magic back when Revised and Ice Age boosters were still sitting on store shelves, and of all the changes over the years, the art is something I'm glad to see has matured significantly. Some people may bemoan the heavy use of computer graphics, but that's the way everything is going these days, and frankly I think it gives capable artists a ton more tools to play with. Every set has had a few wtf-inducing card arts, but by and large, every set has been great to look at.
Did this coincide with the merging of the D&D and Magic art departments at Wizards? I'm just glad that I don't have to stare at stuff like Stasis any more.
i just changed my wallpaper with the girl with snake wow amazing!

I don't understand the griping over digital art. Art is art. I use photoshop to paint and ink daily and it takes just the same amount of skill to work with it that any other medium requires. But it lets you do things that you just cant do in other mediums. It gives you much sleeker and well defined images than traditional mediums, and the photo realism only helps add to the believability and atmosphere of the sets. I feel the gripe with artwork has nothing to do with the artists skills or execution but is focused towards people not enjoying the concept of the piece.

Why not a Lamia? Or for that matter Innistrad's version of a Gorgon?
Personally, though, I'd expect something more like "T, put a 1/1 black snake token with deathtouch into play" with cost depending on rarity.

I don't know if people that dislike the art dislike it because it's digital.
I think that the two non-snake pictures look terrible but I don't care how they were made. They are just not appealing to me in any way. There might not be anything more subjective than art and I don't think it's worth it to try and break down our opinions.
