I have a feeling I would have loved this when I was a kid starting out. Geared towards newer players and it's not a bad deal if you each put in 5 bucks, so I think it's a cool idea.
This actually makes sense to me, considering how intimidating it would be for someone inexperienced to start playing Limited for the first time and dive head-first into a full-blown draft. This is certainly a much better idea than those all-foil Alara block packs from a while back.
seems like a waste of money and time from wizards. just another horrible cash cow.
Troll much?
This is a fine experiment, certainly a much better product than the DoTP decks, or Foil Scars packs.
At the end of the day, it is MSRP of 2 Boosters ~8 bucks +2 dollars for the extra cards. (which will likely be commons and a few uncommons)
This isn't the best idea WoTC has ever had, but it certainly isn't the worst either.
If you don't like it, don't buy it. It isn't for everyone. It doesn't take away from anything else, it doesn't hurt anything by existing.

A buddy and I usually do this before or after drafts at my local store... buy 3 booster packs of any set, random picks is usually fun. Crack the first pack, don't look at the cards, remove insert (if any), add 3 lands of each colour and shuffle and play with your 30 card deck of randomness... We just buy the 3 boosters to make it a match.
It usually plays out well, never once have we milled ourselves. And it's always fun never knowing what's coming next.
I think that minimaster does what this product is trying to accomplish, but I see how they want people to experience limited deckbuilding, so I kind of understand that. Decent for new players though.

Wizards are a BUSINESS. Do you understand how these entities work? People that ***** about Duel Decks and FTV and Premium Deck Series and everything being cash cows or a waste of time/money are idiots. Wizards is in the business of making money, and this is one way to do so.
I think this is a cool way to pass some time if you feel like limited and don't have the time for an actual draft.
I mean compared to buying a pack each at MSRP, it costs 1$ a person more... certainly not something I'd do every day, but nice for a random lark. A lot like booster wars, as another player mentioned.

Slingin' cardboard out of Yokohama, Japan. (if you're local and play EDH or want to test competitive, drop me a line!)
I can say confidently that I will not buy this... but as a primarily Limited player I do appreciate Wizards providing a baby step into an intimidating format.
So wait- You end up with two 25 card decks? I thought limited was 40 cards... 25 card decks seem a bit too small. I think this is a good move in any case. The 20 card packs should have 1 rare each, I think.
Edit: I see where they briefly mention lands, but it wasn't in the specs, so I thought the lands were in the 20 card packs.
I think it could be fun, and if they include a rare for each random deck, really good bang for your buck. I'll give it a shot. even if you're good at limited it's a great way to do a limited game or so with a few friends without having to have an organized event... I like it.
