It's plenty solid for limited, if your opponent even has 1 creature it's a solid 4/4 for 5 and anything beyond that is just gravy. If your opponent doesn't have a creature then you've got a nice 3/3 which won't be getting blocked.
It has no real constructed applications but it's a pretty solid creature for red using multiplayer EDH decks.
To explain the flavor, think of it like this- This guy's a raging inferno. Your opponent's creatures are fuel for the flame. More potential fuel, the bigger the fire.
Hmmm... Interesting, I'm not sure what to think... it's a control card obviously but when I think of control I don't normally think of red. Could we see the brith of a mono-red control deck come rotation?

You summed up my thoughts exactly. A 4/4 for 5 in Red is an acceptable body for Limited, and if it is a 3/3 well, it will probably be winning you the game in some fashion, and that's good enough.
I like it. A nice EDH fatty, and good dissuasion for Army. Trample would be nice, but alas, if wishes were fishes, and whatnot. The problem is if you Whipflare or Pyroclasm, he'll survive, but won't be such a fatty.
Crap, now I'm not liking him as much. Granted, he's still great against Army, since he balloons at that point, and they are still tapped, but wow, narrow position.
this card could have been good if it had flying or some other type of evasion. it's a vanilla that gives you even more value for chump blocking than normal

Read the sig.
This guy is just about equal to Beast of Burden, and that never sees play in EDH. "Vanilla" fatties (i.e. no evasion or CA) are only worth playing in the format if they are consistently huge, and this guy makes no such promises.
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
While it can certainly be enormous in EDH, I don't see it being played there. It doesn't do enough. However, in limited, he's fine, though not a particularly high pick.
More fodder for the trash can. Jesus, can't they get anything right with this set? Just SOMETHING to make it playabl? Please?
The 'walkers? Snapcaster Mage? Skaab Ruinator? It's also really quite difficult to say what will be playable without any knowledge of the standard metagame, but the set has given cards that are playable.
Dumb design and just missed the mark in flavour; it should have TRAMPLE!
I agree... If your facing down 13 Zombie tokens... this guy really does nothing but be a big fat fatty. It's not like he's not going to swing for likely leathal next turn as it is. So he blocks one... ooooh.
Not saying I wouldn't want one for early game though...
I love how many people think if a card doesn't have evasion it's a bad card for any format. Like people have said, he'll be at least a 5/5 most of the time, and if he happens to only be a 3/3 then he swings for 3 every turn. Not to mention there are some good auras/equipments in the set that sit nicely with him.
I also see it as sort of an anti-Werewolf card mid- to late-game. If you have 3 transformed Werewolves, I have a 6/6 that can at a minimum probably trade with your fatty, or if I have other critters, chump block your biggest, kill your second biggest, and go from there.

Palias Terminus, the Black Rose :4mana::symu::symb: Legendary Creature - Human Cleric
Tap three untapped permanents you control: Draw a card. Tap two untapped permanents you control: All other creatures get -1/-1 until end of turn.
"I am the Black Rose, the Prince of Murder. I will hide in the shadows no longer; my time has come."
The card is good, but unlike its closest competitive counterpart, Tarmagoyf the under-costed beat stick, this is an over-costed beat stick where to get this guy truly over the top would require either a multiplayer game or have it come in on an overwhelmingly creature flooded board where they have more creatures.
On the bright side though, you might actually get your opponent to chump block things they wouldn't normally want to chump to keep this guy's stats down and not take the excessive damage.

Too costly, trample-less, too small, too crap.
Seriously, if your opponent's/opponents' creatures are not 1/1's, +1/+1 is underwhelming.
If you field more creatures than opponent or just as many, I suppose you could swarm players and get some creatures through but I'd much rather use Lure or something on a crap critter.

Machius proudly supports R_E's right to Rumour!
It's a monster that comes from Geier Reach.
My biggest gripe with this is that it doesn't fit the mood of the set. Red always gets the short end of the stick in adapting to particular set moods.

In a chaos EDH game, I'd love to Fling this guy at an opponent.

Thanks for that info. Now I understand why my Prussian bombers in Dystopian Wars are called "Geier Class" makes sense.
As to this card, I'm liking it a lot, but then almost all my gaming is constructed multiplayer (Grand Melee) and this guy will go very nicely.

It's not bad at all: much of the time, you'd end up paying 5 mana for a 5/5 to a 6/6, which is quite a good value.
