Front/back is probably separate from face up/face down; there's a good chance Ixidron works the same against them as it does with everything else. For instance, note that the article states that if playing without sleeves, if something is exiled face down, you'd use the checklist card. Of course that's rather different from being face down in play; honestly I'm mostly inferring this based on what they've done so far when adding new states for permanents.
Nope. The article mentioned that the simply cannot be flipped face down. Period.
Also of note that ALL werewolves have a unified transformation trigger. So the first transformation after a werewolf has been played it'll be synchronized with all other werewolf day/night cycles.
I suppose the flavor is only actually day/night for Werewolves. Which makes it feel a lot more like day/night. For everything else, it's just a transformation and we should just ignore that there is a little sun/moon in the corner.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
Seriously loving the werewolves. I might go Naya so that I can splash in white Silence style effects (Meaning that I can stop my opponent from playing spells to give a coordinated attack).
Joy of joys, a Flip PW. This should be really ****ing interesting. One would assume his "day" form only has 2 to make room for the Transform text.
I swear they better make his "curse" integral to the novel and he better damn well transform in it too. To make a PW like this and NOT do something with it in the story is almost treasonous.
This is just... Ugh. Flip cards? Really? Somehow, this just seems like a horrible, horrible idea. We will see once we draft Inistrad in the prerelease though...
Am I the only one that thinks the werewolves' version of transforming is silly? Not casting spells for a turn is a rather lot to be asking of us, especially when the returning transform is a fair bit easier to pull off. I speak competitively here.
okay so after reading how things can be done with the checklist and whatnot, Im kind of happy about it. The checklist was indeed a good idea.
So you can use the checklist as a card in your library and once its on the battlefield you put the "real" card which is doublesided into play instead. So you can leave it in your deckbox sort of as a "token" but not really a token.
I dont think they screwed it up and im happy about it. Also there arent that many transform cards. only 20 in this set it seems (unless theres more than 1 checklist)
I was worried about doublesided cards but now not so much anymore. I think it was the best way to handle double sided cards.

Not sure I like the actual transform trigger for werewolves. I can imagine some questions/memory issues cropping up over how many spells were actually played last turn. But maybe I'm just being thick.

Without the checklist the cards would be unplayable outside of sleeves, which is something that wizards would take a LOT of fire for.

Even if the author is silenced, the performance is stopped, the story will not end.
Whether it's a comedy or a tragedy, if there is cheering, the story will continue on.
Just like the many lives.

Thank you so much! These will be a blast to play, even though the whole "at the beginning of your upkeep, if no spells were cast" stuff is a bit frustrating (Even though it's flavorful because nothing happens at night, no spells, while everything happens during the day, two spells).
I have to say... when everyone speculated that there would be a mechanic where werewolves would shift, my first thought that at best it would be something simple like a triggered ability that gave these cards a bonus until end of turn... and at worst it would be flip cards all over again. But they kind of split the defense (to use a sports term) and pulled off a mechanic that looks like it's going to be really fun in draft and maybe in constructed.
I imagine that it's going to be somewhat hard to implement when you actually play the game because you have to bring out a card as a marker to put in your deck. Even if you use sleeves, it's going to be kind of a hassle to physically flip the card over every time you use it. However, I figure eventually people will just proxy the back of the card, put that in another sleeve and use that when they transform their creature.
Edit: How does draft work? They say that the double faced cards are open information and you aren't penalized for revealing them or forced to conceal them. So that would make sending signals easy. If you open a good transform creature, you can make a show of drafting the card to the guy next to you so that he'll stay out of that color (if he doesn't, he's only hurting himself by taking away that color in the second pack).
Am I the only one that thinks the werewolves' version of transforming is silly? Not casting spells for a turn is a rather lot to be asking of us, especially when the returning transform is a fair bit easier to pull off. I speak competitively here.
I think they're intending Werewolves to be run like an aggro tribe. Play a bunch of them, turn your top draws into wolf triggers. However, I doubt werewolves will be competitive because the humans aren't that amazing on their own.
Oh well, werewolves are awesome, so go go werewolf tribal with Silence.
Also, I gotta say, the art for this set is AWESOME. BD The Gastaff Shepard's change in tone is hilarious, and the Daybreak Ranger goes from looking heroic to looking like a rabid wolverine.
I was more excited for this set than I have been in a long time. I love the flavor and theme. But learning about double-sided cards has almost totally destroyed all of that excitement. It's just so unbelievably ugly to me. As in, I literally cannot believe that this mechanic got approved.
I've been playing Magic long enough to know that I shouldn't write something off without actually testing/playing with it. But I don't know... this just seems bad.
okay i'm not really one to jump on the hating a keyword ability based solely on its name, but fight just sounds stupid. i can handle enters the battlefield, i can handle dies, but fight? couldn't they have come up with something more dynamic sounding than what 4th graders do on the playground?
Everyone everywhere thinks any new term is silly until they play with it. Can you (or the majority of the magic populace) honestly say that "duels" (this creature duels target creature) would have been any less silly? Or "brawls"? Maybe "clobbers?"
One of the double-faced cards in called 'Civilized Scholar'. Jekyll and Hyde, anyone?
This seems very likely, good catch! Alternatively it'll be a civilized scholar who goes utterly insane from researching things man was not meant to know, Call of Cthulu style.
Seriously loving the werewolves. I might go Naya so that I can splash in white Silence style effects (Meaning that I can stop my opponent from playing spells to give a coordinated attack).
Not a bad way to stop them from turning your wolves back into men, although woe become you if they can cast an instant in response ;). Interesting that the savage werewolves will be best protected by Rule of Law.

Okay going to sound silly here, but when the werewolf cards (I love typing that! :D) say that you didn't play a spell last turn, they mean your last turn right? When I first read them I thought they meant if your opponent hadn't casted a spell...
Also, Fight is a stupid noun. As a verb printed on a card though, it actually sounds kinda cool
Problem with the werewolves: they are only werewovles when aggro decks want them to be if your *opponent* doesn't cast any spells (or doesn't cast two or more spells, depending on if you played any during your last turn). Either way it's dependent on how many spells your opponent casts, not how many you cast. :/

Nope. Your opponent controls your transformations.
Edit: It says each, nevermind. So each upkeep it checks, yours and your opponents.
this might increase the demand for garruk and other popular double-faced cards, because people will want 2 playsets of each; 1 to use in opaque sleeves and 1 on the battlefield for flipping, etc. am i the only one thinking this? i'm sure i'm not the only one who would hate to main deck ugly checklist cards or having to take the card out of its sleeve every transformation.

When would you ever have more than 1 Garruk out? At most you would need 5 to do this. 4 in the deck and one that is the opposite side in your deckbox.
I want to use Form of the Dragon, donate the enchantment, then copy the enchantment. Then use Arena on the dragon tokens, just to say: "Now? Now we FIGHT!"
Man this is signed for awesomeness. Somewhere a young man's dream about a magic set in the world of street fighter is one step closer to becoming a reality.
also this werewolves are flipping awesome, i can see the drafting problem thought but man i really have to give wizards props for this its going to be great playing with transforming creatures.
One thing i don't like is the mechanic for the flipping i don't know how often you get to point where no one is casting anything. However i can see this putting the screws on control but not too tight i foresee plenty of removal in this gore fest set.

Or... just make a proxy of the back of the card and keep it outside of the game but on the table ready to use. I'm sure judges would have no problem with this and it would probably be the usual way people deal with these flip cards in constructed.

Huh, missed that, thanks. The text looked the same as on the first page so I didn't bother actually reading it.
As for "fight": Any rules gurus can clarify which cards will vs. will not get "fight" errata? So far as I can tell, it's like so:
But I don't know these things well enough to be certain.

"Fight" seems okay, but there are so many cards that pseudo-fight without actually fighting (Cyclops Gladiator, Living Inferno, Predatory Urge) that I don't see the point.
Also, they'd better be printing a TON of checklists.
