I actually really like Sisay's art as it is, and just don't know if I WOULD want new art for her. I mean, she already looks like she's about to leap off there like a badass, but I can imagine the crew following after her. Prolly why she brings out Legendaries <w<
Sisay's original art is pretty sweet - makes me quite unhappy that mine was stolen.

Red - Honestly, I have no idea. I'm not one for collecting, but...these things tend to jump up in value no matter what.
Knick - I've never owned one, but again, I think she has great art as-is. There are some cards that are just captured rather perfectly with the art they already have

Currently Getting Back into the swing of MTGS. Bear with me folks~
I picked this up for pre-order at retail. Excited about the fact my LGS was nice enough to have it at retail, but I'm still disappointed I paid 37 bucks for this set.

Even then. I think this set will be pretty easy to find for MSRP or very little above it. There just isn't the epic demand for it as was years past.
Because there aren't competitive staples like Top, Vial, Mox Diamond, Berserk, Lackey or good cards for competitive play beyond EDH.
That is why we will see this settle at 50 dollars because Captain Sisay and Kiki Jiki are worth that much in foil.
I'm not sure what legendary creatures they could have put in this set to make it worth more since they don't like printing multiple promos of cards *just like why jitte wasn't in Relics when it probably should have been* likely the best blue creature, which just so happens to be a legend Vendilion Clique is a judge promo so they wouldn't be likely to reprint a promo. In addition, I'm fine with getting foil EDH staples even if it's only two or three for drastically less. However, the difference is that there really isn't anything they could have done to make this set worth more along their parameters except for printing every good competitive EDH general *Azami, Jhoira, Sisay, Thrax, Asuza, Momir Vig, Xiahou Dun, Kiki Jiki, Arcum, etc* Without printing that as the list of cards in the set it wouldn't be able to sustain a high value for long at all. I'm still debating with myself if I want the set or whether I want just the 5 cards I actually want from this set. Seeing as though I will probably pay about the same amount for either.

Well, yes, Progenitus is rather huge, out there, and it's a severe odd-ball situation where he actually gets cast in a timely manner, but..I wouldn't call him "uncastable".
I think he's a poor choice for this right now, as he just recently even cycled out, and I REALLY don't think he needed to get one of the new arts(I'm a bit dissapointed that it seems more new cards got new art than old =/ ), but I still do think he's a pretty darn cool creature ^^;
There isn't any card I can think of that's harder to cast. Besides, Fire Dragon got cut from DD: Knights vs Dragons for being uncastable. What chance would Progenitus ever have for getting into a precon?
I am seriously thinking of cancelling my preorder (at MSRP). It seems this box won't hold the same value as the other ones...
Dude, if you can get it at MSRP, I am sure that you can turn around and flip it at ten dollars over MSRP to someone here on Salvation, who will be grateful to you because it's not available at all in their home state/country/planet.

Why?
Major sites are buying this thing for $50 currently. You can sell it for over $60 to someone easily.
The only way you'll ever get this thing at MSRP is at a B&M store, and it's not like they'll be on shelves collecting dust.
Even though WoTC epically-failed on the card lineup, these sets are still scarce and people want them. They are never going to be anywhere near MSRP on the interwebs.
If you need any more evidence, try finding an old FTV at a B&M Store or even finding one online for under $80 bucks. It's not going to happen.
I dont think many people will argue its not worth msrp.............. i think the argument is that it wont be worth the jacked up price that most places will try to sell these for.

I concur that it doesn't have quite the same appeal ... yet.
Dragons appealed to everyone who loves dragons, and that's a pretty large audience, including a not-insignificant number of non-Magic players who simply collect Dragon cards because they like dragons.
Exiled had Berserk, Balance, Top, Mystical Tutor, Goblin Lackey and Lotus Petal - lots of solid, extremely playable cards that still show up in Legacy and also have great casual appeal.
Relics had freaking Mox Diamond and Sol Ring, not to mention a Sword and a Vial. Obvious tourney appeal, obvious casual appeal.
Legends - well, Legends doesn't really have any constructed tourney staples. Ulamog is in Standard for another few weeks, and I'm sure that some people are excited about cheating Progenitus into play in Modern, but these cards aren't for tourney players. They're for Commander players. We're all pretty dismissive of these, because we either don't play Commander and don't care, or we already have them. But 5 years down the line, a foil Captain Sisay is going to be huge, even if it does have the same art as the original. People will want this, since I hear that EDH people like to pimp out their decks. I predict that this will rise - maybe not to the same levels as previous sets, that entirely a fair call, because the tourney player demand just isn't there - but it will go up.

Sums things up pretty well. I'm still happy with a few of the picks, though, but that article hit the nail on the head with regards to all of the alternate arts. Progenitus, especially.
I think it's a little unfair to show up prices for the old sets as they fall NOW. I remember when dragons hit, people were like "okay, it's worth about what you'd pay for it." This was before EDH really took off and people REALLY wanted a foil of Niv-Miz... Kokusho was a bigger "OMG" than Niv at the time. The only reason prices got really crazy for Dragons, and thusly setting the standard for the FTV sets... is that some shops got a ton of the product, and many shops got ZERO. So then you had ebay auctions hitting $70-100 easily, because there were chunks of players who couldn't get their hands on them if they wanted it. This issue was fixed for the next set, but it made everyone start forking over $100 bills without thinking when preorders hit.

But to me, it's not about the money value. Sure that's nice, but when I have over 20 EDH/Commander decks I love FtV for the ability to give me some old cards in new frames and oracle updates. Kind of like what Commander and the Vs series do, with even some cool new alt Art. There are also many points to that fact in the article. It's not just about the money...but where are my Ravnica legends?!? We don't even get one, yet where flooded with Alara legends. <shrugs>
All, IMHO.

Ok, I only came back to mtg recently and just started EDH as well. All I want to know is should I get this set if I find it at msrp?
In a void: yes.
In reality: Can you afford the $35? Are these cards at all interesting to you? Do you like shiny things? Do you plan on trying to build up a large collection and want more options for future deckbuilding? Could you save money by individually purchasing only the cards from this set that you want and ignoring the rest?
We can't answer those for you.

Almost perfectly sums up my feelings regarding this product. I just don't understand what happened. FTV:L should've been a no-brainer, easy home run product.
I tweeted the link to Maro, I suggest anyone else who wants better FTV products to do the same.
Nothing in this game is degenerate or completely dominant. They haven't banned anything in standard in a long, long time. Hell they should have banned affinity right away, but they didn't until boxed sales collapsed too. Hasbro had to come in and fire people.
I'll enjoy watching all the whiners eat crow monday.
Besides his comments on Visara (I'm happiest with her alt art compared to the others that I feel are absolutely terrible choices), I am in complete agreement with the article.
Also, I never realized Visara was supposed to be flying at you. I always saw it as being from a bird's eye view, with her looking up and scowling in anger for whatever reason.
So I got my FTV:L today and after really looking the cards over, I feel like the quality level* isn't quite as high as previous Vaults. Some of the cards are absolutely gorgeous (especially Sharuum), but others didn't seem to take very well to the foiling process at all. The background on Rafiq is barely visible, there's no angle from which you can see all of Visara's art thanks to glare and the foil effects, and if I didn't crack the box open myself I would've sworn that Oona was a shodilly-made proxy thanks to how pixellated her art and some of the border details look. And while I've never had any problems with my previous FTV cards being bendy, these all have a fairly noticeable curve to them fresh out of the box. It's disappointing, really...
*EDIT: That is to say, their quality of printing, not their quality as game objects. I'm fairly happy with the nine cards that I slotted immediately into decks (even though several were just pimping out cards I had non-vault versions of), and I expect the six I don't care about to handily equal the MSRP of the box in trade value. I just think the quality control kinda dropped the ball.
