Will this see play in Modern mono-red? If that's the case, I could see this being an okay choice. But ... Yeah, I'm not terribly excited about this one. :/

If you guys think this card is so bad (I do too, by the way) to have as an FNM promo, DO NOT GO TO FNM THAT MONTH. That is the only way WotC will learn.
WRONG WRONG WRONG
Don't listen to this person. Not going to FNM hurts your local store, not WotC.
If you don't like this month's FNM, if you're tired of crap cards like this, call or write WotC. POLITELY. Find them at conventions like GenCon, Origins, etc and demand answers, POLITELY, about why they're putting out such garbage.

Yes, it will see play in Modern. RDW and Burn decks are going to love it.
This card makes me a bit sad. I dunno, non-rare lands just seem like a bad idea to print as FNM promos...I mean, yes, I play teetering in my beast deck, but....that's not a deck I do anything with besides super casual games, so this just doesn't excite me.

Currently Getting Back into the swing of MTGS. Bear with me folks~
can some people with twitter accounts go spam every wotc twitter we know of with questions about how they choose the worst fnm cards? I havent been in over a year because of crap like this. The prizes arent even prizes to me so why spend money?

If your store gives out more than just these as prizes, the promo should not factor into whether or not you go.
And if your store gives out just these as prizes, your store is a pretty bad store.

The only good thing about this post is the edible chocolate roaches they gave out! Mmm mmm!

Wait a minute, edible roaches don't crawl! EDIBLE ROACHES DON'T CRAWL!
Why are people complaining so hard and rageful for free cards? Is this really the only thing you appreciate from FNM? I thought FNM was about other things, like getting along with your pals while playing some games...

If you advertise free cards as a reason to go to FNM, then you better pony up a card worth going to FNM for. From a marketing standpoint. From a different standpoint, I'll still go to FNM, but I could care less about getting this as a prize, it's just disappointing, especially as we've gotten some great FNM promo's in the past. Lastly, as a prize this is abysmal, meaning stores have to pony up more money to convince people there is a reason to play at FNM. Magic is, what Magic is now, and it's competitiveness is a cornerstone to its success.

True on both counts. As was mentioned, though, if these promo cards are supposed to be the big push to get people to play, they should be better. I understand that WotC has to commission artwork in advance, but there's no excuse for a card that has never seen serious use being put in just before it would rotate out of standard. Furthermore, all FNM cards should be standard cards. You're not going to get someone to play modern or any other format by giving them crap cards that aren't useful in the format, not when it's the high dollar cards that they need to start playing.
As for what a store gives as prizes, I believe that FNM should be nothing more than an advertisement for your store. All stores should work toward the point where all FNM fees go right back into the prize pool as store credit. The store I'm currently at does that, and I also give away 10-15 random promotional cards every FNM as well.

Teetering Peaks sees quite a bit of play in monored Standard decks, Goblins or otherwise, though that still doesn't excuse the fact that it's rotating in about a month.

The issue is that there are so many cool, non imminently rotating cards they could do FNM promos for. Obviously FNM is more than just promos, but it isn't hard for wizards to do something better.
edit: Not going to FNM because of the promo is a pretty terrible idea. If your store is of any quality at all the people who win FNM promos also win a fair number of packs. Even when the promo is less desirable it is still useful trade fodder.

Good point. By not going, the store's will complain to WotC too! Even more reason to not go.
I felt a great disturbance in the force, like a thousand decks across several formats suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has been printed
Ouch. I understand that these choices are made well in advance, thus some are going to whiff, but really, 3 straight cards that are rotating out? If they're going to give us older cards, they should give us cards with applicability in older formats, or casual formats like EDH.
Cant wait for my blighted agents in 12 months time!

I just wish they would give in and finally give us rares instead of commons and uncommons. Does it cost more to make it a rare on the sheet or something? At least make it ones not rotating soon. Though I guess it's better than Serrated Arrows was. Rotated on the same day it came out. Ugh...

Players want cool promos.
Businesses want players.
So businesses should give cool promos.
What's that? Businesses have no control over the promos? Maybe businesses should be getting on WotC's back about the promos. But if players show up for crappy promos, the businesses have no reason to.
