Its too narrow in what it does. It cost too much and its not as good costing 7. I agree i would love to cheat this into play with culling the weak and or dark rituals and sacrifice. Hell even priests of gix and urbarask could help play this spell
Constructed Playability 0/10. It is a does nothing card for control/agro builds... the only way to play this card in some ramp/combo deck... even then it is casual only deck and an awful one at that. If you want to play this card... just go play solitaire.
Limited playability 1/10. Again this card just wont every be worth playing in agro or control builds, in mid-range build its playable but honestly a 22nd or 23rd card... with that said it is a rare that is about as playable as lava axe with triple black mana... seriously ? WTF
The is the card interesting test. 0/10. 7 mana 10 point lava axe... with non-relevant life gain(outside of bond). This card says 4BBB "hurr durrr does i win " Pretty much tap 7 mana and win or tap 7 mana and fail awfully... No real interaction here.
Artwork. 8/10. Only redeemable quality of the card.
Honestly the card is so poorly designed, it feels like WoTC is trolling me.
I would rather see a darksteel relic reprint before this card... Darksteel relic make me laugh ever time i see that card.
"I have no idea what it's like not to be a straight white male, and the experiences of others are irrelevant." -Conservative Motto
Calling someone a Commie is flaming and must be stopped, but turning the word Conservative into a loaded pejorative and using it over and over again is perfectly acceptable.
Are people really getting excited for the applications of a 7cc that only targets players?
I want to make MBC work as well most of the time but the answer is not and never going to be lack of finishers. Black has never had a problem having finishers.
Look the major MBC issue is here:
Early: card disruption, vulnerable mediocre creatures, removal. Removal and disruption all have exceptions so your going to have to have the right ones at the right time. Or flood your deck with them.
Mid: vulnerable mediocre creatures.* No good way to make up for cards used to disrupt. No counter magic. No way to deal with land, (non creature) artifacts or enchantments on the table. PWers hard to to deal with. No really scary PWers on their own.
Late: no issue. Lots of big scary ETB or death resistant things and Grave Titan among them.
For about 3 years now mid game has been turn 3-5 with 6 starting (and often being) the end. Control has worked off card advantage replacing early counter or removal effects. Or finding the right answer. Black can't really do that without blue.
*Phrex Crusader is great but is infect. This makes not-the-blight-dragon finishers worse by proxy.
*Nighthawk Vampire would be amazing in the post LB world. But he leaves when it does.
I don't get the art. What is his right hand doing? I would think it was pushing Sorin's dagger into the victim, but it doesn't look like the dagger extends that far back(?) I dunno, that hand just looks weird to me.
He's using his right hand to push the sword through his victim, as he's pinning him to a wall. Would've been better at a different angle than directly above the victims head.
In case I didn't tell you, I don't care about your opinion I just want your facts. And not the facts that make you seem smart. I want the ones that are actual facts.
not sure how i feel about the card itself. but oh god the Art. ive always been a big fan of Sorin, flavor and cardwise, and this card art and the flavor text just ooze awesomeness

Don't ask me what the purpose of battle is. Battle doesn't need a purpose. The battle is its own purpose. You don't ask why a plague spreads or a field burns, so don't ask why I fight.

I don't like this card for standard. It's too expensive. I would play it in limited, but it's no Cruel Ultimatium that justfies the 7 mana cost. For seven, I would rather have Rune-scarred demon. At least that can replace itself and isn't terrible when you've been on the back foot the whole game. It's fun, and I love Lava Axe, but I just don't think it's versatile enough or creates enough card advantage compared to similarly costed options. The best place for this is actually a beatdown deck where you can kill the opponent as soon as you draw it; problem is, it's really hard to ramp and be aggressive at the same time. Bomb rare for limited that I will enjoy using it in that format, but otherwise a weak dollar rare.
And no EDH deck should ever play this card. Exsanguinate exists. So does repay in kind. And Sorin Markov.
I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause!

I want to cast this with an active Pyromancer Ascension, but I doubt that's going to be a real deck. Print a red Manamorphose and maybe I'll give it a try.
So how does having to pay R, BBB, and whatever G you'll use for ramping into this make any sense whatsoever? Have fun with a tricolor mana base that supports all three of those!
Mono black people: how would your deck NOT be better with Mana Leak, Spell Pierce, Into the Roil, Preordain, and tons of other blue CA spells? It wouldn't.
Cool, flavorful card that will be decent (but not a bomb) in limited, and unplayable in Constructed.
In other words, the card is well balanced. Stop complaining people. Power creep sucks, not this card.

This guy, would either eat up several turns worth of mana to get a slow permanent that relies on your already have some board presence (after wasting said mana), or dies without generating any advantage.

I would say that phyrexian obliterator is more then just "a vulnerable, mediocre creature". And vampire nighthawk is amazing. It's always been amazing.
