Good ol' M11 Harbor Serpent, geesh, I so hate that card.
:D:D:D
Never playable.
Harbor Serpent is a great sideboard card if you're playing blue. I don't know why it goes til the last couple of picks so often. It can win the game on its own if you're opponent is blue.
[QUOTE=Jester's Tear;/comments/5509970]If you don't think Dark Ritual is over-powered, then you've never come close to playing MtG on a competitive level. The card was broken back then, and it would be even more broken in standard today. Turn one - swamp, dark ritual, dark ritual, phyrexian obliterator, go.QUOTE]
I'd like to interrupt that combo by paying 2 life and countering the first Dark Ritual.... Ok, my turn?
On topic, Would LOVE to see stifle or any 1cmc all around counterspell return (winkwink Force Spike winkwink)
Limited is going to be very good for the first time in a while, I'll definately be picking up a couple of Harbor Serpents in my drafts.

And it does seem like they're trying to slow the pace of games in Magic. I prefer that, to be honest. Longer games mean more cards get to actually see play.

I expect with this [Transform] mechanic that everyone playing a Werewolf tribal deck will say "Autobots, rollout!" whenever the majority of their army transforms.

As far as the number crunch for white goes... while I'd love to see Swords back (just so I could get a foil of the new art), I think it's more likely that whites small fliers will get a boost and we'll see the return of Stormfront Pegasus.
Land, dismember (3for1), go.

To post on this forum you must...
1. Have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
2. Stubbornly argue for at least 1 page of posts.
3. Regurgitate things you read on Starcitygames or Channelfireball.
4. Hate all netdeckers
5. Claim your 2nd place FNM deck broke the format and Delver is not even that good.
6. Tell everybody that MBC is coming back every time a new black card is released.
I dont want to have to run 4 copies of dismember in every deck I make just so I wouldnt have to fear a turn 1 Phyrexian Obliterator.

Wall of Torches1R
Creature - Wall (C)
Defender
4/1
I would have gone with 5/1, since 9 times out of 10 it wouldn't change how the card played, but would have prevented it being simply a strictly inferior Wall of Razors, which is barely a decent card in the first place.
From what I see in M12 overall, it looks about as useless as 6th Edition was. So far, it looks like green was powered way up, yet the rest is boring and blah feeling. I don't expect mass bombs, but I do expect descent choices.

well mill is going to have a really tough time with that elixir around. only way to stop it is with graveyard removal.

I know it's a core set but why do they keep making reprints that are strictly worse than other cards in the Type 2 pool? Unsummon with Vapor Snag, Reclaim with Noxious Revival, and much more. These cards aren't even that useful in limited. Were they just lazy?

Vapor Snag is not strictly better than Unsummon. Reclaim and Revival... yeah, I've got nothing on those. Maybe one was added late to fill a hole.

Maybe they want people to have access to 8 copies of almost the same card?

Obliterator got printed as it is because dark ritual doesn't exist. And a lot of things would be less scary if cheap versatile removal was available. Stp? Disenchant?
I think WotC intentionally wanted to slow the format down so that new players wouldn't be squashed at FNM, cause they rarely see the value in cards like StP and Disenchant and wouldn't be playing them. Also, new players love big giant awesome creatures for high mana costs, so the cheap, efficient removal had to be nixed because thats what kept the pros from playing a lot of big giant awesome creatures - see Sligh. And thats what kept them on the table for the newbies.
This is simply not true. Off the top of my head we have Condemn, Go for the Throat, Dismember, Lightning Bolt, and Journey to Nowhere as highly efficient sources of removal across multiple colors in Standard. Reactive removal, by definition, requires interaction and is a good thing for the game. The reason that WOTC doesn't reprint cards like Swords to Plowshares is that it is simply too good at doing its job. With Swords legal it would default as the best removal spell in the format, and many decks would splash for it. It reduces options when deck building, because of the current removal suite, only dismember is really even close. I could see them possibly reprinting StP in the future, but only if they felt that white needed a significant boost.
Also, chaining Dark Rituals to cast a Phyrexian Obliterator is hardly intimidating. The format would easily adjust to such a scenario. Dark Ritual has never been "broken" when all its doing is casting creatures. It's at its worst when it's either powering out draw engines like Necropotence, or generating fast mana for Combo. In the current format, Dark Ritual may even be safe to reprint, but it puts such huge constraints on what you can and can't print that Wizards probably decides that it's just not worth the trouble.
Vapor snag is pretty much strictly better i mean i get it if u bounce your own guy you wouldnt lose the life with unsommon but i mean come on if u asked people which one would they draft 99% of the people i bet would pick the snag
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Vapor Snag is not strictly better than Unsummon. Reclaim and Revival... yeah, I've got nothing on those. Maybe one was added late to fill a hole.
Because they want new players to get acquainted with the basic effects.
Because they want new players to realize some cards are better than others, and they need to look for the best.
Because this is a starter set and they have gaps to fill, and no need to make up a new card for a role that some other card would fill in limited perfectly well.
New players like the Feather cycle (I conceive of them as the Wurm's Tooth Cycle, btw, though they have been a moniker by R&D I think, I wish I could remember ... the Throne of Bone set were the (un)Lucky Charms). They literally can not keep any copies that they own out of their decks. What is funnier, though, is that they will play them in two, three, four, or even five colour decks. Not that they are worthy of contempt, or anything. I thought Scaled Wurm was the Second Coming, and this persisted for years.

Because it's not in a set with wither?
Hey now, Noxious Revival can be Redirected to target one of your opponent's binned cards...! ;D
What you're doing is actually pointing out another way the Noxious Revival is better.
"Hmmm, you've got several good outs and only one turn to draw them? Let's put that fetch land back on top of your library." "Gee, thanks."
