The card is better than Plague Wind generally, I think? I mean, considering you can play it after you attack, it's basically a free 8/8 attached to a spell that's already powerful in EDH.
but Plague Wind allows you to play it pre-combat to clear the way for a potentially lethal attack, even with random 1/1 dorks that you likely wouldn't be able to utilize with this guy (who prevents them from even being available to chump block).
that said, he's still nice for sweeper redundancy.
Nice card. A bit expensive, but what are you gonna do. One sided wraths have to be that investment, and there are a couple of ways to cheat him into play, or so I heard.
Doesn't help very much, I mean you get a big guy but the "if you cast from your hand" clause means you won't be destroying everything else.
I've cast Curse of the Cabal a few times, shouldn't be too hard to get this guy out.
I like the flavour of most Demons: great power, but at a price. Also, Shakespeare quotes are fun: "Hie thee to hell for shame, and leave the world, / Thou cacodemon! there thy kingdom is!" (Richard III, Act I Scene III)
Uh you also cant recur plaguewind as easily as this. Quite easy to shut out the game with him. Was hoping for some cool art, I cant even figure out what is going on in this picture... Ten is a lot and though I dont usually run the wind when you can just cast Decree and draw a zillion. I see him in GB where u can just tutor him up with survival and get him back with Genesis, nasty.
If you have Intruder Alarm in play, can you put it on the stack so your creatures end up untapped?
He's a nice finisher for my Dimir control deck (in progress).
Aside: The artwork reminds me of Diablo 2; demon with lots of appendages moving quickly through a desert plain strewn with tortured bodies pinned to the ground...
The name could come from Wizards playing on the word "cacophony." Judging by the flavor text, the demon makes such a loud, terrible sound that it kills everything! That was my first thought as to the meaning of the name. Beyond that, I'm not a huge fan. The "if you cast it from your hand" does it for me. Super splashy and swingy though, people will enjoy it.

Lorthos count:40 (1 foil) and I will always trade for more...
I get why they added the tap clause, I just really don't like it. Throwing an 8/8 onto plague wind is nice and all, but the reason you play plague wind is because it's always a blow out. This guy could leave you open to a random general shank via lightning greaves. Still a good card, but they could've made it cost say, 5BBBB and cut the tap clause. It's not like you're going to be cheating this guy out so they could've easily balanced things out with the cast cost or other costs. Tapping your team just seems too risky.

Hey, lolis with katanas are awesome, and I don't care about their home country.

wizards didn't make the word up. it is ancient Greek for evil spirit, and as Quach Attack mentioned, was first used by Shakespeare in Richard III.
extra fun fact: cacodemonia is a form of insanity in which the afflicted person believes to be possessed by an evil spirit or demon.
I think this is designed more for its play in casual using the exactly EDH decklists from the precons. Its pretty clear how its made to keep the game going, not to end it. Basically it says that it sweeps the rest of the board and puts you in a great position and makes everyone else have to gang up on you, but *is not* a plague wind and prevents you from alpha striking someone right away, meaning you have to go a whole turn sequence around the table where people can gang on you before you can attack.
Its not a 'good card', but its fun design from a multiplayer perspective, if you were forced to play with it. Much more fun to have cards that keep the game moving then those that end it

You have an 8/8 blocker to take care of any (non-flying) hasted attackers. He only taps all other creatures you control.
Meh, id rather decree of pain any day of the weak over this. Ill pass thanks

I was curious whether there will be a person oldschool enough to remember it.
Indeed.
Demonologically, it is a soul of a dead demon that possessed some other object or creature.
As for the card, it is solid, but far from broken. 6/10, I would say.
Let this great clan rest in peace (2001-2011)

Seems like a pretty good card to pitch with Kaalia of the VastI need to learn to read t.t
Id
Trade with me, h:Alters and EdhFoils:)
Cards I have altered
Kaalia does not cast the creature just puts it into play tapped and attacking.
I like the art and the effect is certainly powerful but it just seems like a variation of Reiver Demon.
that takes me back....to a time that i don't remember very well! X)

There's actually been a few different renditions of the Cacodemon in DOOM over the years. Here's the Doom 64 and Doom 3 versions
Feeling kinda meh about the card itself, but I'm sure a lot of mono-black players will find a use for it.

There's no day of the week where you'd be willing to pay a scant 2 more mana to keep all your creatures and add an 8/8 to your roster?
I mean, certainly on a Saturday I'd at least consider it.
I'd love input and advice!
