I was curious whether there will be a person oldschool enough to remember it.
Indeed.
Demonologically, it is a soul of a dead demon that possessed some other object or creature.
As for the card, it is solid, but far from broken. 6/10, I would say.
You beat me to it! I played so much Doom/Doom 2 it was ridiculous. One of the first things I did when I bought my 40" HD after I hooked it up to the computer was rock some DOOM!
I actually like this guy......... and have decks he will go great in right along side some of the cards you guys seem to like better. No reason he cant go with em or that he has to replace those cards... run em together.
And we are talking Black... the deck of coffers/vesuva/tutors... you can easily ramp up to more than enough mana to swing with everything youve got at someone that cant block it, then one sided wipe the board with this guy, then recast you a blocker or two.
And even if you cant.... its not that much mana in commander, and it nets you a one sided board wipe against everyone else... even if they kill him, its at least done the part of an expensive damnation, which isnt entirely bad...
And yeah, there is always the chance they could have a greaves and something else scarey in hand, or a sunblast angel--- but no matter what you play, there is that one card that could screw you over... The sheer fact that there is so few that can make this a bad play is what shows me how good this guy is--- if your deck can reliably handle the cost.
This guy absolutely DRIPS with flavor, but that's really the only reason I like him. Blahblahblah, can't cheat him into play, blahblahblah, better than Plague Wind. He still costs 10.
There is no reason to run this guy over someone that can be abused with graveyard recursion, etc. Especially in black, even with Coffers, you could get much scarier things done. Plague Wind or Decree of Pain will remain my favorite "Destroy the Board and Win" cards.
There's no day of the week where you'd be willing to pay a scant 2 more mana to keep all your creatures and add an 8/8 to your roster?
I mean, certainly on a Saturday I'd at least consider it.
i suppose MAYBE on a saturday lol I guess its more deck dependent, I usually run decks that are more general based than creature swarmy based if that makes any sense. So the drawing a bunch of cards from my opponents creats is really the pull here, id rather do that than have an 8/8. especially since it can be bribery'd etc..
but to each his own, i certainly cant say its a weak effect on this guy

The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.

Thank you! Just play after you're creatures are already tapped!

Akuma will wreck you.
I'm more excited about Syphon Flesh for sure.
