Legacy has grown a huge amount in the past several years (Especially with T2 standard prices rising), and prices of staples have risen because many new players are entering who need those staples. Extended was never near the level of popularity Legacy has now. Nobody plays Vintage, and while it used to have more fans, its staples already cost too much to ever get a large fanbase.
The idea that stores were "hoarding" FTV is missing the point. The entire purpose of the sets was to give LGS retailers a chance to sell an extremely limited, rare, and desirable product at a jacked up price. Of course they were hoarding them, they're the only people who had FTV sets.
All I see is a box of FTV worth 35 dollars in the fall of 2010 and in the winter of 2010 FTV sol ring is worth 20 dollars (that's not saying about the other cards)... gees if I had a few thousand dollars to spend it would be smart money to buy FTV boxes and break down the cards to sell for easy profit.
I dont believe Wizards intended to make FTV as a quick money making fix. I've also feel the massive reprinting of Sol Ring (5 times) is wizards way of saying... "hay! stop it!"
@pandafarmer... I have no problem with reprinting magic cards and I do support the reserve list as long as the cards not on the list do get reprinted.
The reprinting does fix the supply and demand issue but collectors who are buying magic cards not on the reserve list shouldnt ***** if wizards decides to flood the market with such and such card.
Now all of the decks except for one are $35, do they know something we don't? I'm glad I ordered all five for $125 shipped. Too bad I didn't know about the $95 deal on another website.

Good thing that the FTV boxes were supposed to be a gift to the LGS stores. If Wizards wanted to have FTV be worth 35 dollars, it would have been sold to large retailers too.
The reprinting of Sol Ring in Commander boxes was intended to make entry into the format easier. FTV was not intended to make money for Wizards, otherwise they would have sold it to large retailers and they would have sold it in larger amounts. It was intended to please collectors and specialty stores. Collectors like the shiny foils and new art of powerful cards, LGS like the ability to set the price to meet demand.

They shouldn't whine about it. However, you shouldn't whine when FTV cards get jacked up prices when that was the entire intent of the product. I don't like it either, but that's how things are.

I'm not whining... I'm afraid of another Carrion Ants incident... which I can see starting to develop from the *****ing of the 5x reprinting of Sol Ring...

But WOTC has flat out admitted that FTV is to help out the local shops and is a reward for the top tier shops... Tom LaPile told me HIMSELF at Nationals. Here's how it went down...
He was Gunglinging with Zac Hill. I asked "Hey do you have Elspeth vs Tez with today (as sometimes they gunsling with new product that had yet to come out. EvsT was due out in a week or two)?" He said "Nope, we weren't allowed to bring it." I knew from the arcana that morning that there was a German event that had some coverage on the main site that showed off the gunslinger THERE with it, and spoiled the new Swords to Plowshares art. When i mentioned it... both of them got visibly upset. We talked for a while and I mentioned that I was surpised that they put Swords in the decks. A onlooker joked "Too bad you won't have a Mind Sculptor one!" Tom and Zac basically said they would if they could, but game shops would raise up the price and basically make it break it open for singles. Those products are made for casual and new players, and it wouldn't be fair to have people buy out Target and flip them for profit in their own shops.
When I asked about FTV and why they are okay with stores selling it for $70-100 a pop when it MSRP's for $35... he basically said this...
"Shops are our customers as well. We MADE that set a limited edition thing for collectors to reward those shops. We know full well they won't sell for MSRP. It's a way to say thanks to the shops that do so well for us, since everything else we do is pretty much for the players."
So basically Soldier, if you can get From The Vault sets for MSRP the day they come out... DO IT. Dragons was the only one that really wasn't worth much more, and people STILL wanted them bad enough to pay $100 for them. Relics and Exiled though were both well worth the $80-100 for a collector. I got mine and quickly sold off half of the cards to make up what I spent on the things.
In what universe? If you build a deck like that, and ever draw that hand, I will personally come to wherever you live, perform complicated acts of awestruck ********, then disembowel myself to escape the world that allowed something like this to occur and validate you.
Now all of the decks except for one are $35, do they know something we don't? I'm glad I ordered all five for $125 shipped. Too bad I didn't know about the $95 deal on another website.

WoTC, thank you for finally announcing the Modern format, an eternal format where everyone can participate.
Unlike Archenemy and Planechase before it, Wizards wanted these decks to have a chance to compete with other peoples well-honed pre-existing EDH/Commander decks. To do so, they needed to put in some pretty powerful cards so that the casual crowd wouldn't get blown out of the water so badly. I think it's a great idea, and shows that they want this format to grow and flourish outside of the lucky few who have those older, harder to get cards.

Hey, lolis with katanas are awesome, and I don't care about their home country.
The Reserved List was created in 1995/96, after the printing of 4E and Chronicles. Some of the cards included in those sets had been highly-sought-after cards in black border form; to cite the most notorious example, at one time, the second highest value rare from Legends (behind Mirror Universe) was Carrion Ants; it went for about $55. The price crashed after Carrion Ants was printed at uncommon in 4E.
@Pandafarmer...
I just dont understand the story, at one point they seemed bothered by the reprinting of swords and at another point they are ok if the cardshops take the FTV box at 35 dollars and sell it for 80... I sure believe they are saying they are not bothered by it... but they are not Hasbro Executives either...
I still believe the turnaround is way over the top... I dont think there is any other CCG, Sport Cards, Comic Book, even GOLD has that fast of a turnaround.
PS... my rant wasnt intended upon myself... I was point out what I believe was a correction to a mistake. I'm also starting to believe that it'll be a long, long time before FTV cards will have this fast of a turnaround. (therefore whatever white border 3 kingdom legend might be printed will not be worth as much as the 2nd market demends)
Seems like a successful answer to an inflated card price due to lack of supply. People really wanted it, were willing to pay top dollar for it. Hard to find, so it was reprinted, though less appealing due to white-border. Supply is given back into the market, those who want it due to it's ability rather than it's "black border" status have easier access to it, demand goes down, price stabilizes.
High prices in cards, I'd say, aren't "healthy". Reprinting them to put them into a better financial state is good.

So, is there hope that Bojuka Bog will be in all 5 decks if we are going off the official "Commander Rules" from Wizards?
Even so, I don't feel that Wizards would do it, even though it's probably a good idea to run it. It's easy enough to get a hold of (being a common) so...

I hope so. Online sounds pretty archaic and behind the times regarding EDH rules.

You have no idea. I'm sick of watching games where an Agrus Kos, Wojek Veteran will play Bojuka Bog and Halimar Depths.
EDH: Xenagos, God of Revels.
Actually I am pretty sure the FTV foiling process is the "shiniest" and most vivid they have ever done.
