ya know... I was just thinking... them doing sol ring in there as uncommon slot is a slap in the face to everyone who bought a FTV Relics.
I bought one... at MSRP. I'm not insulted. I have five white-bordered Sol Rings, and the FTV one, and I'm really psyched to get more. It's about one of my favorite cards.
well Im any case i just pre ordered the five decks because i have some spare cash, and well it just keeps getting better and better with every spoil, so might as well before it increases its price above the recommended price set by WOTC.
What are you talking about? The few years of Magic has seen plenty of "good cards". They made new Swords, an actual Karn planeswalker card, Mental Misstep, Zen brought Fetch Lands.. there have been a lot of good and cool cards lately. Each of the Archenemy and Planeschase decks have equally as cool cards in them. Albeit not a Sol Ring but Reanimate
I know that there has been a lot of great cards in recent sets. Read the post I was quoting and then reread my post. I agree with you there have been many great cards recently, it's That1guy34 who does thinks "Wotc dosen't do a lot of good things" not me.
As to my comment on how we have become desensitized to good cards... How many times have we read, over the last few years, every time a new set comes out..."meh, it's junk", referring to 80-90% of the new cards, because they simply aren't at the same powerlevel as the other 10-20% of the cards. We have gotten used to the powerlevels of the recent cards, not unlike an addict developing a tolerance for a drug. Cards that were, in the past, amazing such as Baneslayer Angel have been completely outclassed by more recent cards.
I was merely pointing out that the fact that Wotc has to reprint something as amazing as Sol Ring to get people this energized and excited is a little sad.

I doubt this will happen since walmart and other such stores will carry these.
I mean if u know when your walmart gets there shipment in you will find these no problem, heck you can still find ach and planechase at some walmarts /targets and I remember people rushing to preorder those as well.
Now THAT is quite the enticement to buy these, and significantly lowers the singles price for them. Very, very nice.

Lol, no it isn't. Everything in FTV was "mythic." Really they just liked the way the orange logo looked. I bought several FTVs and have no issues with them putting it in here as an uncommon.

From the Vault is full of uncommons anyway... Mystical tutor, Top, Vial, Clamp, Scepter... This is no different. It's also the only way anyone can get a foil top in this art, which in itself will still be valued right where it's at.
Anyone comparing this sol ring to the FTV Sol Ring just don't know what they are talking about. Limited Print Run "Special" Foil makes it a HIGHER RARITY OF EXISTANCE than a mass-produced preconstructed deck. Big big difference between the two.

They are talking about the value of the card is going to drop due to increase supply of the card.
They are talking about the value of the card is going to drop due to increase supply of the card.
But it likely won't drop. The From The Vault Sol Ring is only about $20-25 right now anyway. If it drops, it won't be by much, maybe to $15 which is what it was when the set came out. Even then, it's the ONLY way to get a foil of that art, which means something to some people. I prefer the art, and I am glad I have it. Sure I'm more open to trade it away now that I know I can get a non-foil version... but only if the trade is right.
I think this is a perfect example of re-printing old, long out of print cards that are very useful in EDH/Comm and not breaking any formats. Banned in legacy means they hold true to their "not printing a bunch of legacy staples" policy. Also, it's not as if they're re-printing something silly like an ante card.
Well I think it's a bit of both. Let's face it, the minute Sol Ring was confirmed, most online retailers pulled it off preorders to make sure they could fill the demand.
While I don't think we'll see many more OMG surprises (maybe Ith, Top, and Vesuva), I certainly think they are aiming that the NEW cards will be the draw here.
wow... this is just a Sol Ring, the Revised and FTV should never be anything higher then 5 dollars.
All this *****ing about screwing FTV buyers is silly... The suggested price was 35 dollars... and your not obligated into buying booster packs and boxes to find the key cards... therefore you are getting 15 cards for 35 dollars... therefore the cards should be worth 2 to 3 dollars a pop!
Gee... how can a card worth 2 to 3 dollars a pop is valued at 25 dollars... That's insane and it's not right since FTV was released in 2010. Seriously, I'm pointing my finger at Starcity for this because it doesnt take a genius to figure how to control the market of magic cards (by hording it)... Stop overpricing the magic cards!
The point is... Force of Will is not actually worth 75 dollars, it's a u2 (meaning the card is printed twice on the uncommon sheet) in a well made set... also meaning the set was still in print way after Tempest. (I know because I was still buying booster packs of Alliances during Urzes.)
So if Wizards reprints Force of Will (which they have every right to because the card is not on the reserve list) assuming it'll be in something like control blue and the retail value of the box is 30 dollars (breaking the card respectabley from the package set should not say the reprinted version is worth 60 dollars!)
I don't play Commander myself, but I must admit it's great to see more black border Sol Rings coming to the market at reasonable prices. I really like the new artwork too!

Sol Ring is overpriced because it's from an old set, it's an EDH staple, and it was only reprinted recently in the extremely limited and jacked up priced FTV set.
Force of Will is overpriced due to Legacy becoming much more popular, and that card is completely necessary for many Legacy decks. I remember when it was only 25 bucks.

Force of Will at most was worth 7 dollars in extended and droped to 5 dollars during the Legacy/Vintage creation... then when nobody is appearantly playing vintage the card has jumped from 5 dollars to 25 dollars to 40 dollars to 60 to 70... wow! Is there really that many players playing Legacy? Should we start seeing Legacy players on cable tv (if the game is that popular I dont see any reason why not).
I do believe the weight of this recession/depression is a factor on some of the price of magic cards more so since card shop owners are banking on the demand.

Is there really that many players playing Legacy? Should we start seeing Legacy players on cable tv (if the game is that popular I dont see any reason why not).
Legacy has grown a huge amount in the past several years (Especially with T2 standard prices rising), and prices of staples have risen because many new players are entering who need those staples. Extended was never near the level of popularity Legacy has now. Nobody plays Vintage, and while it used to have more fans, its staples already cost too much to ever get a large fanbase.
The idea that stores were "hoarding" FTV is missing the point. The entire purpose of the sets was to give LGS retailers a chance to sell an extremely limited, rare, and desirable product at a jacked up price. Of course they were hoarding them, they're the only people who had FTV sets.
Soldier, I guess I fail to see why obvious laws of supply and demand are so bad. It's always been like this with Magic. You know that Pithing Needle was a $25 rare at one point right? Why? It was BADLY needed in the format. Now? It's been printed a few more times and isn't in Standard anymore so no one needs it. Drop!
Pointing to supply and demand to explain high prices for EDH / Standard / Legacy staples is accurate. What is omitted though is that WotC can and should do something about it at times. By adding to the supply, they open formats up to more players, which then helps the price go back up again as supply begins to dwindle amongst increased demand.
As they say in the stock business, it's not about where a price has been. It's about where it's going.
