So Sol Ring is in every deck? So there goes the value of my beta version. I agree that its gonna be in every commander deck that comes out, cheap fast mana is always fun, but I think this hurts the collectors value of the card
Just like Kias have diminished the value of Rolls Royces?
You are talking two completely different products here. What clown is going to be looking at a Beta Sol Ring with his wallet out ready to pay and then back down because now he can get another Sol Ring for $30 by buying these?
These will only influence the Revised market because that's the only one that most people are even willing to pay into.
Well, there's goes the value of my FTV Sol Rings. I have Revised ones so I'm not really gaining anything here. But I do think the card is a little off in EDH, it's an autoinclude in EVERY deck, it's the first thing anyone steals with Thada Adel or Aquire.
Also consider this. People like BB old sol rings and Foil Sol Rings more than a New frame BB FtV art nonfoil one. I bet this uncomon will be like 4 dollars at most.

On the one hand, I am happy that Wizards reprints such an old and expensive card in a preconstructed deck, therefore highly increasing its accessibility. And with cool art, too.
On the other hand... ban that damn thing already! Sol Ring and Mana Crypt are such stupid cards, please remove them from the format!
One of the best parts of EDH is that if you think a card is too good, your playgroup can ban it. Best of all, if they won't have it, you can find a playgroup that doesn't allow it or doesn't have them. I know people moan about Koshuko, but my friend plays him in two of his decks, and it's never once been a problem, because it can be dealt with in OUR playgroup. If he was some donk trying to recur it or something, we would just kill him.

/thumbs up. Sorry you paid too much for a piece of paper, but nothing stops you from painting the border on those horrible unlimited ones.
This is by far the best news, old and new plays alike can stand behind.
Wizards is finally showing that this is THEIR game, and its THIER customers they are selling too. It's about time they stop catering to the second market. I cannot wait to see what else comes out of these sets,
Alot of people here have voiced concerns over losing value on their sol rings. If you paid $15 for a revised sol ring, you may lose $3-6 dollars on your investment. For people with unlimited copies, you still have a card with incredible color and unending alter possibilities which will hold it's value.
I own a played beta and FTV copy. Both of these are going to be 100% unaffected by the reprint. The DCI copies are worth 50+ because they're super limited judge foils. The FTV ones will hold value because they're just that rare. In all honesty though, if you've gotten to enjoy sol ring, you've gotten your monies worth. After all, it is close to being better than or better than some moxes.

You knew this could happen. Sol Ring's not on the Reserved List. You knew it could be reprinted at any time, and here you go. That's all there is to it.
I bought 2 sets of Commander decks (1 set to keep and 1 set to break apart) I guess I'm throwing a bunch of Sol Rings in the trade binder this week to see if anyone bites on them.
I like the old art. but I like new frames. This art isn't that bad though I just find the old art one of the most iconic in magic.

I just want people who redraft to admit this:
"I can't draft objectively unless I am able to guarantee that I receive at least 3 rares. I am also better than most average/new players so I want to make sure that I get the best rares and they end up with worse ones. I care more about the monetary value of cards than actually playing the game for decent prizes."
This is excellent news, more Sol Ring and Lighting Greaves is GOOD, maybe now I won't have to proxy as many of them! But I remember when Besieged was starting spoilers and the first card was phyrexian crusader and I thought there was a good chance for like more 10 good infect cards, sadly we only inkmoth nexus.
I'm just hoping for the one with Edric to have a black bordered counterspell and maybe some efficient creatures. Though a mana drain or force of will would be nice too.
My initial reaction to this was very strong as I had acquired six Sol Rings (5 Revised, 1 FTV) over the last year or so and didn't see this coming at all. I put a lot of effort (and in some cases resources - $) into sourcing my Sol Rings and I was upset that my rings are very likely going to lose value. It is clear that this will adversely affect the value of Revised rings, and to a lesser extent, Unlimited rings, while A/B and FBB rings will probably remain in high demand.
Upon further reflection, I never intended MTG to be an investment - I enjoy it as a game and a social experience with friends. Having calmed down about it, I am still bummed that the work I put in acquiring Sol Rings will mostly have been wasted energy, but I am thrilled that newer players will have access to better cards. This is a good thing for the growth of the game, and one thing that's really irked me in MTG recently has been the absurd spike in secondary market prices (which I believe are in no small part to large dealers like SCG more or less market setting). Taking the prices down a notch on eternal staples or hard to obtain cards is a good thing, and I'll gladly take the hit on the value of my own cards so that I might be able to acquire better cards in the future at a more reasonable cost.
All that said, my only gripe about the Commander version Sol Rings themselves is that they didn't reprint the original Mark Tedin art in the new BB frame. I feel that Tedin's vision is superior to the FTV one, as it truly represents "sol" and not starlight.

The Sun is a star.
Still, I understand why a lot of people like the old art better. A great idea would have been something as detailed as the new art, but represented in the same way as the old (Fire from the Sun forming a ring).

This..A million times this...If you want to "invest" then the only somewhat safe bet if to buy things on the reserved list.. Otherwise suck it up because the risks are VERY clear. Anything not on the reserved can be printed at any time for any reason.

I'm pleased with the updated art. It is so grand and monolithic, but also small and discreet. I has become a literal ring, and that's okay. Otherwise you have a giant circle of burning mana hanging out on your side when you cast the old art, haha. Not very subtle.

Hello, ladies, look at your deck, now back to mine, now back at your deck, now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn’t mine, but if you stopped using slow, weak mana myr and switched to Sol Ring, your mana production would be good as mine.
Look down, back up, where are you? You’re at your local EDH table with the deck your deck could play like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s a card with two boots to equip to that thing you love. Look again, the boots are now Mana Crypts. Anything is possible when your deck uses explosive mana staples and not that fizzly stuff.
I’m on a Skullbriar.
Had to comment on this. Funniest thing I've read on this site in a while.
Wotc dosen't do a lot of good things; but when they do it's a home run.

I think they do a lot of good things. It's just that that we've become so desensitized to good cards lately it takes them doing something incredible for it to be a "Home Run" like this is. Sort-of sad actually.

What are you talking about? The few years of Magic has seen plenty of "good cards". They made new Swords, an actual Karn planeswalker card, Mental Misstep, Zen brought Fetch Lands.. there have been a lot of good and cool cards lately. Each of the Archenemy and Planeschase decks have equally as cool cards in them. Albeit not a Sol Ring but Reanimate

My buddy Josh just told me about this. I yelled at him in disbelief. If I was on the fence about these, this may have pushed me into buying all of them. My goodness

Very valid point. When I think of sol though, I envision blazing fire, not beaming light. Guess Tedin's art has really imprinted itself on my mind.
