Bravo Wizards. Bravo. I have been very critical of the reprint policy before. This is a step in the right direction. There are ALOT of old uncommons that need to be reprinted. I hope they are using this opportunity to reprint alot of them. I would like to still see the reprint policy go, but that will not happen as long as there are previous store owners and secondary market influenced people at WOTC. But this makes me happy.
To all those people upset cause they "invested" in sol rings, I say TO BAD. Magic cards should never be used as a investment. Go buy some silver coins or Gold bars for real investing. Magic should never be seen as a legitimate investment and WOTC should never have to worry about keeping your investment high. Wotc isnt the FEDERAL RESERVE of Magic cards.
We can go back and forth about what awesome hard to buy cards will be in this set, but honestly there are only a couple of things we can really go on...
1 - WOTC isn't afraid to put a card or two that will make it "worth our money" to buy it.
2 - There are likely just as many "WTF" cards in this set because they want the new ones to shine just as much as some cool reprints
3 - Though they don't consider the secondary market when making these, they certainly know better than to put too many suaght after cards in a "casual" set like this. After all, putting in staples from other formats suddenly makes the tournament players gobble them all up and the casual people who the set is intended for has an even TOUGHER time finding them.

I seriously believe cards like Memory Jar and Skullclamp are not made by accident. So they are always making something that is so hot it will push the product... aka Mental Misstep...
2 - There are likely just as many "WTF" cards in this set because they want the new ones to shine just as much as some cool reprints
Somewhat true... but EDH often uses "WTF" cards typically since they are not used in typical decks.
I do believe the land count will be higher then normal.

If that is so then Wizards should keep printing the sets. I believe it's the expansion symbol that should determine the value of the card and therefore serious collectors and traiders would be deter from picking up EDH cards.
Once this hits shelves I will have 14 sol rings
2 Revised
5 From The Vault: Relics
1 MODO
1 from whatever deck I get handed at the release event
5 from the set of decks I ordered cos it was cheaper than getting the 4 I didn't already get
I'm happy enough with that, since I currently have 7 EDH decks, and it never hurts to have spare rings.

And you know what, I think it's largely the case. People aren't going out of their way to find Planechase Innocent Blood or Archenemy Reanimate... though they are playable Legacy cards.
I am satisfied. I get 5 staples which makes me happy. Though I don't use them in my (first and for now only) edh deck. (see below) All in all i enjoy the statement they are making by using these.

Agreed, this plus the Lightning Greaves reprint suggests that WOTC wants these to be competitive out-of-the-box. This hopefully means moar staples!!!!!
Also its interesting to note how the foilness affects the rarity of sol ring. If it's foil its mythic, while the nonfoil is merely uncommon...

Agreed. I think it only becomes an issue at two points: 1) immediatly after release and 2) if they "overload" one of the decks.
A $30 deck having 1 or 2 $10-$15 cards not such a big deal and people won't swarm for them becuas eyou at most profit by 5 bucks. Saturating one deck with those plus a bunch of other legacy staples would be a different story.
Same here! These decks are going to be awesome.
Now I have to go over to starcity and see if they have jacked up the prices on these decks. I know they're going to do it, just waiting to see when.

Last I looked, SCG removed them from their front page as was sold out of all but one deck.

WoTC, thank you for finally announcing the Modern format, an eternal format where everyone can participate.

I bought mine from miniature market last night for $129 (free shipping FTW!) and now they are $145. Seems the time for sales on these bad boys is officially over.

Technically $145 with free shipping is still cheaper than retail
They actually started raising their prices on April 8th and have incrementally crept up since then. I can totally see these selling for $160-$170 at some places right around the release date. After that, we'll see how the supply chain works. Outside of a Divine vs. Demonic, 2 Knights vs. Dragons, and 2 Red Burn whatever decks I have not see any of these things at my local Target. I go every other day too.
All these pre-constructed specialty decks sell out fast at my Wal-mart. The casual crowd loves having competitive decks pre-built for them. I doubt they'll be available for very long once they hit the shelves, and once M12 is out, I doubt Wal-Mart and Target will reorder. My local store only carries the latest release and that's it. They want to rotate stock as quick as possible.

So Sol Ring is in every deck? So there goes the value of my beta version. I agree that its gonna be in every commander deck that comes out, cheap fast mana is always fun, but I think this hurts the collectors value of the card
I don't care if gaming stores jack up the price on these, Meijer always sells the multiplayer products like a week after release for retail. They have had the planechase and archenemy decks there, and it took a long time for them to run out. The commander decks are supposed to have a long print run like the other multiplayer products, so I doubt we have to worry.
I believe that I have enough social competence to slip into a party or two, potentially wooing some attractive females that would not mind spending the evening performing the booty dance on me.

They printed it in FTV and that didn't hurt the Beta Value.

All of these are very sought after staples that are played almost exclusively in EDH (Maze of Ith is the most played constructed card here, but even that is only infrequently seen in Legacy compared to EDH). I wouldn't mind shocklands being reprinted as well, but that's a lot less likely, especially if Modern becomes a reality.
I'm hoping for Vesuva. The fact that jumped to like $11 is just dumb to me... can't bare to trade for them at that price when i was picking them out of junk rare bins for years.
Well, there's goes the value of my FTV Sol Rings. I have Revised ones so I'm not really gaining anything here. But I do think the card is a little off in EDH, it's an autoinclude in EVERY deck, it's the first thing anyone steals with Thada Adel or Aquire.

WUBRGPauper Battle BoxWUBRG ... and why I am not a fan of Wayne Reynolds' Illustrations.
Still too early to tell how good these will be though IMO. If Sol Ring was Legacy Legal though... sweet jeebuz today would have been rough.
