Someone photoshop that thing to have a Sword of This and That in its mouth...
I like the cute "red planeswalker" bit but I'm pretty sure this still doesn't make Chandra very playable.
Not sure how much it helps chandra either, but it's definitely a really good card in general. Recurring flyer for red with haste? Yes, please. In a format with staggershock and red sun's zenith, this guy seems really good. 3/2 would have been better, just because of birds and swords, but still, I'm betting this phoenix sees play until rotation.
Because conservative bias is a far, far worse thing. Liberal bias doesn't, statistically speaking, make people stupid. Conservative bias (or at least Fox's version of it) does.
Skyknight Legionnaire in monored, plus an easy recursion ability that doesn't cost any extra mana or resources and triggers off what you're probably already doing anyway. Fantastic. I will find any excuse I can to pair this with Chandra Ablaze while they're still both in Standard.
Wow, that is really good. Red usually does not get such an efficient creature. 3 mana for a 2/2 evasive hasty beater that can recur when you do what a red mage should be doing?
Nothing in this game is degenerate or completely dominant. They haven't banned anything in standard in a long, long time. Hell they should have banned affinity right away, but they didn't until boxed sales collapsed too. Hasbro had to come in and fire people.
I'll enjoy watching all the whiners eat crow monday.
Another thing to note is how great this card is in multiples. Just one bolt brings 'em all back. I wonder if it's worth getting Fauna Shaman and Vengevine involved...
If it's going to be good at all, the following card needs to see print:
R2 (CMC doesn't really matter; it just needs to be red)
Enchantment
Whenever a [superset of "red instant you control"] deals damage to [superset of "an opponent"], you may draw a card.
(For those not familiar with terminology, a "superset" is a set of objects which includes the thing you want to be a superset of. For example, supersets of "red instant you control" are "red instant", "instant", "red spell", "red card", "spell", "spell or ability", etc, but not "blue card" or "cards named Lightning Bolt").
If this card continues to not exist, this card is bad and should feel bad.

Haha, I just realized that this card is awfully close to being a red equivalent of Vengevine. Returning to hand is obviously not nearly as good as returning to play, but the basic concept is incredibly similar (and this is more combolicious with Ablaze, obviously).
Red burn deck, uses Ablaze to burn the opponent by discarding Phoenix over and over, and/or use her second ability to refill your hand and still get the Phoenix back with the new spells you draw... I love it! I don't even care if it's competitive, that's the kind of synergy I live for.
I like it. If RDW rears it's head at all this year, it will definitely consider running at least 1-2 as a recurrable source of damage. The haste makes the subpar stats doable, 3/1 would have been a lot more aggressive though (though there are currently a lot of applications for 2 toughness atm).
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.

Yep, since a 2/2 flying haste that is easier to bring back then Vengevine sucks, right?
I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.
It requires more investment than Squee, since you have to be playing with red burn, and isn't just a combo piece/blocker since it's fair on offense. They have some similar applications with combos but the Phoenix has more flexible options in what role it plays.

@Luminium Can: Do you really think a red deck wants to play a 2/2 flier for 3? Keep in mind this will be a format in which turn 3 kills will be viable in monored decks (curve: Memnite, Ornithopter, Mox Opal, Signal Pest, Kuldotha Rebirth away the Thopter, turn 2 bash for 8, play Goblin Wardriver, turn 3 bash for ~15, gg).
@Spicay: The comparison between this card and Vengevine is not well-founded. If you actually knew what you were talking about, you would know that the strength of Vengevine is in that it comes into play for free and gets to attack immediately, as early as turn 2 or 3. The fact that this card does not come into play for free makes it infinitely worse than Vengevine, and the fact that it's red (and thus is not as easily synergistic with Fauna Shaman) makes it even worse.

Not all mono-red decks go for that low of a curve or that kind of speed. Slower Big Red style decks have potential as well (and even if it's not as good, it would be my preferred style of play regardless).

You're totally 100% right bro..no chance of argument ever.
Oh..and you'll probably hop on the bandwagon and say it's a good card once it comes out and proves itself. I kind of want to sig your hatred towards it.
I also want to know how Vengevine is coming out turn 2, other then magical christmasland examples with Chancellor of the Tangle or turn 2 Cobra, fetch, Explore, fetch, Vengevine..since those totally happen all the time.

all the phoenix they have printed since m10 have been gold in my book. A fantastic option for recursion in red, I for one am glad for the continued support of them. Red having very little recursion of any kind, all of the phoenix have had value. i personally love both the Magma phoenix and Kuldotha phoenix. both fit the Mythos well and are great creatures. Hope they print more red walkers and more phoenix. Keep the quality coming for red.
Are there any decent discard outlets in Standard when this comes out? Squee's uses were definitely not centered around his ever being in play; if there's a repeatable discard outlet worth using, that makes Chandra's Phoenix a serious contender regardless of its size or mana cost. It's too good of an engine to unconditionally say that it's going to go unplayed.
Wit's End is the PERFECT answer to your opponent's Monomania however.
Just hold on to your Wit's End when they Monomania, so you can Wit's End them on your next turn!!!
I think this is fairly reminiscent of the "Jace Battles" we have seen in past standards.. My guess is we will soon witness the great Monomania-Wit's End battles.

Chandra Bird is really cool and I can see it getting play in a couple decks.

To all this card's naysayers: I remember a time when Skyknight Legionnaire was constructed-playable, and that card neither generated card advantage nor was in a format which also contained battle cry. This card has the potential to generate the same scary early-game attack phases (or even scarier ones) that the Legionnaire did.

Auto 4-of in RDW until it rotates.
I look forward to playing with this and cringe when I think about playing against it. Good. Card.

Note that I said "bring back" not "pump them out onto the field".
This recurs itself far easier then Vengevine, and it's harder to block then Vengevine.
Let's not forget that to bring him back you're burning your opponent..which is what you're already doing anyway.
