I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.
Something with a reanimation effect. I'm calling it now.
Haha and flying right? Weeeeeeeeee half way done with the card!
In all seriousness this fits as all the promotional material released so far points to a very planeswalker specific set this go around and offering a promo signature spell goes hand and hand with this. Maybe they want the core sets to flavorfully tie into the sets around it storywise.
excuse me if i dont know your popularity and status on these forums...
just didint see that quote in the previous thread with the link you provided, in fact i still cant find it.
as for inb4lock. i guess as soon as you see those letters its automatic infraction regardless if i wrote a whole novel to contribute to the thread. Talk about loopholes in the rules.
Rules are rules dude, why do you keep fighting a case where you messed up? If you murder a hapless person in cold blood and then proceed to write the Great American Novel, you'll still be convicted. The rules clearly say "don't post 'inb4lock'" so just don't do it even if you plan to follow with a stream of wisdom...
Which your particular post lacked anyway: this is the RUMOR mill, threads don't get blocked just because there's no official confirmation -otherwise we'd only have spoilers at the speed of WotC's own releases; they get blocked when they are obviously or proven fake.
A quick look at the OP's profile would have shown you that he owns a store (if his sig didn't hint you) and as such, he gets WotC primers on promo merchandise, and in fact he's spoiled promo names before. Finally, who'd go to the trouble of tainting his own reputation by lying about such small thing? "Oh look guys, this card we already know about is going to be a promo card" is not precisely the most disruptive breaking news.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
PW's are a bad idea. Poorly thought out, walking cliches. The red planeswalker has fire for hair? Give me a break.
Then forcing more cards to match that horrible facsimile of "flavor" is an even worse idea.
Chandra doesn't have fire for hair. Why don't you actually learn something about what your talking about. Btw planeswalkers existed from the first days of magic, not the card type but them as characters.

Though, to be fair, some of that artwork definitely LOOKS like fire for hair!
On topic, I'm excited just to see some new rares. I was confused that m11 didn't have a full set of planeswalker related cards at each rarity.
I'm actually having fun with magma phoenix in MRC at the moment, though, so Chandra's Phoenix had better be as good!

*sigh* as i stated, had i known he owns a store, and in having a store has cards before we do, i wouldent have questioned him or if this was confirmed. I dont care much for the people on the thread and dont spend my time reading there life storys, as such im not as educated on there backrounds. He or you could say, "hey, he owns a store its legit" and i woulda been "oh cool, then yea look forward to seeing it" but no. common sense is dosent exsist on these forums.
But those were commons and uncommons. Wasting a rare cycle to further-flavor a mythic rare cycle just seems redundant.
Oh well, hopefully the cards are strong.
I think it is a little premature to declare it a wasted rare cycle when we have no idea what the cards will be outside of their name and PW connection/synergy. They could go a whole bunch of directions as far as design goes where the card is powerful and still has a synergy with the PW. Chandras Phoenix could be a 4/4 flyer who gets returned to the battlefield from the yard whenever noncombat damage is dealt during your main phase. A very powerful card that works great with Chandra and keeps the synergy going that they began to establish in M11.
Regardless of the power level or quality of the cards, which are both completely unknown right now, I'm a fan of the concept.

I was speaking entirely from a flavor perspective. Like I said, I hope the cards are playable. I just don't think it is necessary to have Chandra Nalaar, Chandra's Phoenix, Chandra's Spitfire, and Chandra's Outrage. Of course, I doubt they will keep all four, but you see what I mean hopefully.
I know, it does not make much sense to fret over card names. But it also means a little Chandra and Jace and Gideon art in the backgrounds of a creature art. Been there, done that. The whole thing just seems flavorfully redundant, and we haven't even seen any of it yet.
@Madding - Gotcha. I understand where you are coming from, it can be a little redundant. However, I think it helps to tie the set together a bit. Core sets dont benefit from the flavor and storyline that the expansion blocks do, and I think having some synergy and references to the "characters" of the set helps the set feel a bit more cohesive, especially for newer players. Also, WOTC's whole marketing campaign revolves around the PW these days, so it's kind of a case of practicing what they preach and highlighting the PWs in-game.
Also, it happens a lot in the expansions, just not with the synergy. Look at Kemba...Skyguard, Legion, and Kemba herself. Makes me wonder if the Phoenix HAS to have synergy with Chandra, or if it's just using the name, like the Kemba example.

Indeed. I like the synergy concept from M11.
But remember, we only have to endure the flavor of Kemba in one block. Getting Chandra-flavored cards every year is sort of "myeh" to me, especially when they start taking up rare slots.

Very true. If were subjected to more Chandra next year, I'll be the first to complain. But since were getting Sorin and Gideon in M12, we have their counterpart cards to look forward to. And because they are in M12, it isn't unreasonable at all to assume that Koth/Nissa/JTMS could be in M13, seeing as they have proven that they'll cycle out the original walkers in order to reprint the newer mono walkers. As long as they keep the walkers fresh, I like the concept of giving them the synergistic cards.
He or you could say, "hey, he owns a store its legit" and i woulda been "oh cool, then yea look forward to seeing it" but no. common sense is dosent exsist on these forums.
*sigh* as the RULES state, you shouldn't have been making an inb4lock post anyway. you have no ground to stand on with your arguments. you have very well only said the second half of that original post of yours "how exactly is this confirmed." and then would have noticed that at the same time the OP posted sayin it was in his judge center info, there'd have been no issue...
OT: i hope that it's not a complete cycle of rare on-color PW spells. what i would like is if there were afew, not necessarily matching the PW's main color spells/permanents.. like how i suggested Gideon's Urumi for a legendary equipment. THAT would scream so much more flavor in my mind than just another rather generic feeling cycle of PW name spells

I'm sure it's not that great, there hasn't been a good card associated with the name Chandra yet. *at least not playable ones*
They have good flavor for her, but have yet to make her the way she should be so I wont be impressed until i see an actual card with good text and the name chandra on it

on topic, i actually like the idea of a rare cycle of cards for the ORIGINAL 5 walkers, but if they do this and say Ajani is replaced by gideon, Ajani will be without a rare card from the cycle.
Why are they auto-wasted? If Fauna Shaman were named Garruk's Shaman, would it automatically be wasted?
I was thinking "I guess by that thinking I guess if it was 'Garruk's Titan' in M11 it would have been junk......." (It actually themes really well with Garruk)
The M11 themed cards aren't that bad. I still think that Lilliana's Spectre gets more cards then the average Hypnotic as he usually dies the instant he hits the board.

Yeah, well the thing about Hypnotic Specter was that he was good paired with both Dark Ritual and Hymn to Tourach. To destroy one's hand by turn 2 is pretty good indeed. Especially since the turn after you would probably refill yours with Necropotence.
Name = lame. They could have easily named it something cool (without Chandra's name), kept the same art and put a Chandra quote in the flavor text. That would have worked better I think. Then again, maybe I'm being petty. :/
As for the card itself, I'm hoping it's decent.
Something like a creature version of Hammer of Bogardan would be cool: 3/3 Flier with Haste for 1RR (sac @ EOT), pay mana on upkeep to return to your hand. Red decks have been missing the Alara Unearthers (i.e. Hellspark Elemental and Hell's Thunder).
My current decks!
