Im really, really, really dissapointed if this is for real. Its awful if we get a rare from an older set... just awful, and has no basis on any kind of flavor or anything...
Honestly, except for the golem and the inexorable tide, the others hardly look like they really have a place...
Also, I think you could do chancellors as non-foil rares, in fact, I was actually expecting Chancellor of the Furnace to be in the R/B one.
What I'm interested about here is the intro packs, and changing the way the rares work. I can totally see them doing this because the rares from a previous set are some of the "nicer" ones, however as another person mentioned it sorta shifts the focus away from the newest set...so not too sure.
If you look at an intro pack from Mirrodin Besieged, you'll see uncommons from MBS, Scars, and M11. Guess they just felt like moving it to rares too.
meh, theyre always pretty uninteresting. just a way to get kids to waste twelve bucks at walmart thinking its a good deal. whatever, im sure some people will enjoy these

The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
Yeah, intro packs are pretty much always going to be an expense for WotC (cost to hire people to design them, art, packaging, shipping, etc)
Wizards shouln't even bother with them, yeah some new players might buy them, but other new players will get freebies from friends, go to the 10 cent bin, or just draft.
And only the foolish and stupid players that are already familiar with the game, will pay the high price for intro jank.
FOR almost any intropack.... you can recreate an identical copy for a fraction of the cost, just by visiting a LGS.
Honestly, I'm not too bothered about the rares from old sets. It's not like anyone buys these decks for the singles, and if one does, then the chance of the intro packs having that exact rare that you want is pretty low. Still, that's one pretty big change, so big, in fact, that I'm still a bit skeptic about these decklists being real. Well, at least they didn't put any core set rares there.
As for the quality of the lists themselves, they are indeed solid, perhaps the most solid out of the whole block. For the record, my favorite precon of this block is Doom Inevitable (MBS UB one), and I really like the UG one here. I also still don't have any Inexorable Tides, so that's one old rare I am happy to see here.
I usually buy one or two of these after a fatpack purchase if they have what i need for a deck and because i like the little inserts. I know it would be cheaper to get singles but tell that to my non-existent lgs and ccards.
Now that they have been confirmed I have to say this is especially lame. I always do a combo pack with my preorder (1 box, 1 fatpack, and 1 of each intro deck) so I'm kinda mad about not only getting cheated out of 5 rares from the new set buy also getting crud like inexorable tide which was already in an intro pack. I mean, at least they could have used cards that weren't already intro pack rares and/or didn't suck.

I heartily agree. There is a substantial lack of flavor in these intro packs, such as the inclusion of garruk's packleader, mirran affiliated rares FROM AN OLD SET, and non-affiliated cards in general.

The GU deck actually looks quite nice, regardless of its rares. It has numerous small, aggressive creatures with infect as well as larger ones to bring some heat in the later game, several sources of proliferation (a number of which are repeatable), and three copies of Leeching Bite is very nice as well. Artful Destruction also has higher than usual numbers of 3-ofs, and a selection of ramp and control spells to help you reach the point where you can start rolling Golems off the assembly line.
On average these seem much better put together than the usual intro pack. Quite a bit of consistency in several of them and some more interesting themes than the mostly generic patterns we tend to see. I'm eagerly awaiting the Ertai's Lament blog's analysis and testing of them to see if they play well too.
Intro packs with two rares from different sets? No thank you. Wizards you have chosen incorrectly. These dont even have remotely interesting commons and uncommons. None of my money on this product. I hope this is only for this set because it would suck badly if Innistrad and following sets did that
Personally, I think Life for Death looks like a decent amount of fun. I almost never buy intro packs because they're almost never worth the cost, but I might just buy one of these for the fun of it. I agree that having rares from previous sets seriously does suck, though.
I'm taking a look at the rares in NPH and seeing what cards from the set might have been able to work as non-premiums in these decks in place of the older cards.
The options available really start to narrow down when you consider that a new mechanic doesn't appear in more than one deck. Since Phyrexian mana is locked up by the RW deck, that cuts off rares from other colors that use Phyrexian mana, such as Phyrexian Metamorph, Lashwrithe, or Birthing Pod. There simply aren't any rare cards in green, blue, or artifacts that don't use Phyrexian mana and have any amount of synergy with a poison/proliferation strategy. You could throw in Fresh Meat or Chancellor of the Tangle for the heck of it, but at least Inexorable Tide actually has synergy with the rest of the deck.

But Inexorable Tide was never in an Intro Pack before. The blue SOM Intro Packs had Etched Champion and Contagion Engine as their non-foil rares.
And honestly, I don't have any problem with Inexorable Tide being in the deck. It's a big, flashy enchantment that has quite a lot of synergy with the deck, even if it does nothing by itself.
Garruk's Packleader? That just seems weird considering Garruk isn't even on Mirrodin (or am I wrong, I don't know the story so well).
They've been posted on the Mothership, they're as official as they come.
Even if it's off-flavor, Garruk's Packleader is a great card for a Golem-centric deck, since all the tokens are 3/3. Play Maul Splicer, draw two cards, play Precursor Golem, draw three cards.

they always suck unless there is a chass rare in them,
True enough... but to also have the nonfoil rare be a card from a previous set is just lame.
