Are you familiar with EDH? If you're not, here are the absolute basics: it's a player-created format in which each player selects a Legend to be the General, then makes a hundred-card deck based on that General's colors. And no card other than basic lands appears more than once. It's a lot of fun, and it's an entirely community-maintained format.
With that out of the way, we have an exciting announcement today! There are more details in Aaron Forsythe's article today, but here are the basics.
First, the big news: Magic: The Gathering Commander is designed for multiplayer play, perfect for EDH. In fact, EDH is now Magic: The Gathering Commander! Don't believe us? Check out mtgcommander.net (formerly dragonhighlander.net) and see.
Now, let's talk about this product we're selling. Magic: The Gathering Commander is composed of five different hundred-card decks, with no card other than basic lands appearing more than once per deck. There are a total of 51 new Magic cards spread across them. And each deck comes with three foil oversized versions of legends that also appear as regular cards in the deck. You can buy one of these decks and play it out of the box, or cannibalize it for your existing EDH decks. Sorry, that should now be "your existing Magic: The Gathering Commander decks."
The 51 new cards will be legal in Eternal formats (that's Vintage and Legacy), but they will not be legal in Standard, Extended, or Block Constructed.
Release Date: June 17, 2011
MSRP: $29.99
Languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish
Design: Ken Nagle (Lead), Mark Gottlieb, Scott Larabee, Ryan Miller, Mark Purvis
Development: Mark Globus (Lead), Peter Knudson, Erik Lauer, Ryan Miller, Lee Sharpe

For more information about this, go read Aaron Forsythe's article. And you should really go check out mtgcommander.net. They've got a preview card already!
Death By Dragons4RR
Sorcery (U)
Each player other than target player puts a 5/5 red Dragon creature token with flying onto the battlefield. Suddenly, Eldo felt very alone.
Also from that article:
The Magic: The Gathering Commander decks will each be three "wedge" colors with corresponding new commanders.
Karador, Ghost Chieftain5BGW
Legendary Creature - Centaur Spirit (M)
Karador, Ghost Chieftain costs 1 less to cast for each creature card in your graveyard.
During each of your turns, you may cast one creature card from your graveyard. "Death tried to uncrown me. But now I return, king of a greater realm."

Nothing in this game is degenerate or completely dominant. They haven't banned anything in standard in a long, long time. Hell they should have banned affinity right away, but they didn't until boxed sales collapsed too. Hasbro had to come in and fire people.
I'll enjoy watching all the whiners eat crow monday.
I was actually expecting 4-color generals instead of more wedge generals. Wizards really missed a golden opportunity there.
I'll live with the change of the name of the format to Commander. It doesn't make too much of a difference to me.
And look guys, the format is not being sanctioned. Can you guys finally stop screaming that sky would be falling? Not like that had a chance in the first place.
Glad the DCI and Wizards will not be taking over the format to regulate it. As a plus, people can't complain about not getting player rewards from Commander events because that's all history at this point.
I actually hate this idea. Part of what was so great and beloved about EDH was that it was a format created and popularized by players. I don't like the fact that wizards put a trademark on it...it just doesn't have the same feel. "Hey anyone want to play a game of EDH" sounds a lot better than "Hey anyone want to play a game of Magic: The Gathering Commander"
51 cards legal for eternal formats only, I can only hope this means that in the future cards will be printed in special sets only such as Dual Decks to make them more special
Best product, EVAR. I'm surprised it took them this long to do something with EDH. I cant wait to see what the RWB legends are, since my Numot deck is in desperate need of a general that's actually relevant.
Love all the changes except the name. While i am playing edh my creatures will still come into play and get removed from the game however the name is a small price to pay for specific edh cards and new wedge generals. I just hope the price on these doesnt hit ftv prices or anything close...
Seriously, what's not to like? We're getting new cards specifically for the format, which is awesome. We're getting prebuilt decks that won't cost a bajillion dollars--hopefully they'll even be good enough to use, or at least help us get those EDH staples we all need. That is also awesome.
And hey, after the M10 name changes, calling it 'Commander' isn't a problem for me.
I dislike EDH but the cards will be usuable in eternal formats, doubt they will be playable but I am curious what they will be.

Don't you see that the whole aim of Moderators is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make infractions literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever be needed, will be expressed by exactly one word, with its meaning rigidly defined and all its subsidiary meanings rubbed out and forgotten.
Wow, if the rest of the cards are like Karador, I'm going to have some really awesome cards to play with! I'm so giddy now, I was just thinking of some kind of deck using Lord of Extinction and I think I found it. I can't wait to see what cards get printed in these decks. This might be a great way for me to stock up on staple cards for my casual and T4 deck. Heck, maybe the guys at the LGS will start up EDH too.

Edit: Oh, and I would kill for a chance at those precons before June. Now I get to spend the next 6 months being impatient. :\

Really cool, worth the wait. Love that they include a large version.

Now i have to change my trade thread to Want: "Commander Stuff" Sheesh.
Actually, this is awesome, new cards and new generals. What more could a Elder Dra- er - Commander player want?

Looking forward to seeing the new cards, and whether or not they'll be printed for standard or other formats.
Can't wait to see what the new cards are.
