O.M.G. I don't care what the sword does, I care about the metal limbs in the art. Aethergineer and I were thinking it'd be cool if some Mirrans started ripping Phyrexians apart and stealing metal appendages and such to fight back with. This doesn't exactly confirm that, but the resemblance and visual significance cannot be ignored.
Edit: Just read through the thread and I regret it. The amount of dumb is overwhelming. It's Mirran, the stuff in the background is Mirran, with a possible shout out to steel overseer (also done by Chris Rahn). All previous swords have been Mirran, why break the cycle? Especially since we know it's New Phyrexia, Pristine Talisman suggests that Mirran representation will probably be heavily based in artifacts and relics left behind.
Really? I like Chris Rahn and all (he's really easy to talk to), but I prefer Zug's focus on the wielder and blade, with an abstract background. Rahn's depictions make me think, "Hey, get that sword out of my panoramic view."
Clearly based off of the crusaders the sword of FF is mirran and sword of WP should rightfully be phyrexian.
It's what the card does rtard, steady progress would not have been a phyrexian card if it didn't have proliferate. The only things associated with the story that are directly put into the cards are legendary permanents such as planeswalkers and legendary creatures. SoWaP obviously is not legendary
The only Phyrexian link to this card is Crusader's protection. However, the Mirran links to this card are wallpaper watermark, previous two swords, background blurb, and the possible relic focus of Mirran cards in New Phyrexia.
And your argument about "it was created by the mirrans" is rightfully dumb, you trying to tell me that blightsteel colossus should be mirran? Cause darksteel colossus was made by the mirrans and then phyrexia took control of it, which apparently made it phyrexian... So if the mirrans made the sword... and then phyrexians by art obviously took control of it.
Memnarch made the DS Colossus, and the fat pack player guide implies that the phyrexians did not corrupt DS colossus, but rather made there own.
Dont give caw blade or whatever combination a pro red equipment thats what kept it in check
Burn will still be exceptional against Caw-Blade as long as you run instant speed burn... that is, assuming that you are running a halfway aggressive red deck.
One thing of note: All the Swords have an ability that nets the controller Card Advantage (Drawing, Disentomb, Discard, and Token) and an ability that has some effect on the current game state (Burn, Mill, Life, Untap). Also, none of them have been repeated at all. Not making any speculation for myself in this thread, just pointing out the facts so people can speculate intelligently.
Good point. So if drawing, getting a creature back, discard and making a creature are already used isn't all there is left is killing a creature for the CA portion of the card? Also I don't know what is holding the sword but if you look at the arms from SBM to SFF to this sword the arm progressively becomes more phyrexian. It's pretty sweet.

Ugh, no, it doesn't. SoBaM is weird, b/c it isn't identifiably any Mirran race (sleeves? who wears sleeves?). SoFaF is most likely Vulshok, but could be Moriok. This is a mechanical arm, but has no indications of being neo-Phyrexian.

I don't think SoFaF is a Vulshok or Moriok. If you look closely at the picture the arm looks like it is starting to decay.

After reading the story blurb, I can just imagine the Vulshok and the Auriok working together on the sword to the tune of "The A-Team"... Wonder who gets to be Mr. T
Love the art btw... Hope the ability doesn't pale in comparison to much to the other swords
Koth is Mr. T.
First name Mr, middle name 'period', last name T!
Sorry, couldn't resist.
I totally expected it to be Phyrexian-aligned because of Sword of Feast and Famine hosing the "infect" colors. The story tells me why it's otherwise (and it's a definite home run!)
Also, it looks like there's a Steel Overseer-esque creature (by same artist) in the background!
It doesn't have much of anything to do with the details of this story really. From a flavor standpoint it's very simple and it has a long precedent both in the cards from past sets which involve Phyrexians and in the other story related material, such as the novels. Phyrexians don't use swords or other conventional arms at all. Phyrexians are themselves weapons: they use implements which are usually a part of their body or which "attach" to their body.

Ascendant Evincar seems to differ....and of course the swords are all Mirrian aligned but that doesnt mean a phyrexian wouldnt be able to use it....feast and famine clearly shows someone going through phyresis or someone that has another reason to have rotting flesh with metal under it.

The arm on Feast and Famine is pretty clearly a Vulshok's. If you look closely there's really no doubt.
Great art, it's nice to finally see some detail into whats going on in the battle.
As for what the card does, it could be any number of things. A Lightning Helix on a stick would be pretty cool, albeit a little broken on a Mirran Crusader, "I swing for 8 double strike damage, and then 6 from the sword, and then I gain 6."
I was halfway expecting them not to make another sword, a lot like they did in Fifth Dawn.

That'd be pretty boring actually, since that's a mix of SoFaI and SoLaS...
And Wizards said they would finish the cycle. Why would you doubt that?

Just like to point out the irony of the name sword of war and peace. "why did you make that sword of yours? well I guess I wanted more peace..."
EDIT: I guess its hard to see the irony if peacekeeping military missions make sence to you.

I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity and boycotting overpriced singles. Sig this to join the cause for a more affordable Magic the Gathering.
I don't think SoFaF is a Vulshok or Moriok. If you look closely at the picture the arm looks like it is starting to decay.
But the spikes are arranged like a natural outgrowth of bones. The pattern is most similar to the Vulshok, who have more barbed or "weaponized" growths. I only say Moriok because the art for the Moriok is all over the place, so it's possible they have growths like that, but mostly they seem to have bubbles of metal instead of spines. However, even if it's decaying, how does that preclude a Vulshok? Maybe he got hit by an infect creature, so he got a sword to give him protection from infect colors.
That's a stretch of the imagination right there. Do you also see the exact same symbol on all the other swords, where you have the fist and semicircle?
Granted Boros liked equipment but I doubt that all the swords fall under their jurisdiction.
Also it's a phyrexian hand; The model for the sword AND THE CAMERAMAN were both compleated before the picture was taken. hahahahaha
