Someone should get to the orb and see if we are in for another Tower cycle, but I guess this is just the 5th one. Not very black.
I don't know why it can't just say "Destroy target creature," that would be more black. Maybe we will see a stuffy doll type creature?
Or some creature with 13 toughness.
This is the red tower.
Blue (carddraw), black (mill), green (creaturepump) and white (lifegain) made up the originals.
Also, I find nothing wrong with this card. Worse filler has been printed. This seems useful in edh.

Every set has a giant over-costed artifact. An artifact set should have a number of these. Just be glad this wasn't printed at Mythic like Lich's Mirror or Eternity Vessel.
Jeez, not even the Timmy in me can support this. It really is just a flat out awful card. There's no justifying its existance, lol. It's a waste of a card. o_0
I actually kind of like this card. I know it's not good, but I could definitely see some uses in EDH as a really annoying way to get rid of pretty much 99% of creatures out there.
I can also see why they did 12 damage, 4, 8, 12, it's just kind of an easy number and pattern to remember. Personally, I would've liked to have seen something like 16 damage though. It would've killed Emrakul then.
The art is pretty sweet too, nice work Aleksi, you never disappoint.
Yes, but if it did 16, it would ruin the perfect: 4 cards, +6/+6, mill 8, 10 life, 12 damage. If you really must kill Emrakul, Krosan Cloudscraper, and Autchthon Wurm, just use Altar of Shadows. It's safe now, without mana burn.
I was just thinking that, like every other direct reference to Mirrodin we've seen so far (mana myr, spellbombs, etc.) we were getting another five-card rehash of the full set (four in this case), which would be an absolute waste of four card slots they could be filling with newer, more interesting designs.
Well, I think the spellbombs and replicas are worthwhile things to do entire second cycles of, myself. (I was a bit irked at the mana myr at first, but I'm willing to forgive them a bit given the new focus on myr tribal.) This one would've been terrible to do four or five of but as a one-off rare callback to the original towers I think it's cute.
Those silly Ur-Golems. They kept the wrong Tower in reserve! Tower of Fortunes is the strong one.
This card isn't totally useless; not totally tantamount to, like, nothing. I can tell you, in my Volrath Mono-Black deck, when I am not not tutoring for the !Cabal Coffers (which is most the time) I often go for the ... !Altar of Shadows. This is, essentially, a second, weaker copy.

Hey, don't knock Lich's Mirror, no other card in Magic combos off you surrendering. That's pretty mythic imho. I know tha tit doesn't combo off you surrendering.
I lost the game by the way

I like the new spellbomb cycle: the design is very different, but still spellbomby. I also like the mana myrs because you can't really improve on that design: they're perfect as they are, and worthy of reprinting. But, I'm glad you bring up the replicas, because that's a perfect example of a callback that fails. Yes, people drafted them high in Limited, and perhaps that made them stand out in WotC's eyes, but couldn't WotC have done something different?
I mean: five creatures, five colors, pop each for an effect. Those are your guidelines. There are dozens of ways to do that cycle besides straight-up <COST>, <SAC>: <EFFECT>. It's just a lazy gimme.
But, I agree with you. As a one-off, I can get a chuckle from this new tower. Sometimes that's all that your rare ought to do... just not four of your rares, thank WotC for that, I guess.
My budget to pick up SoM packs is frightfully small. With my luck, half of my already-too-few rare pulls will be this worthless bit of crap. The risk of pulling this card alone is almost enough to make me want to skip boosters altogether and just go for singles.
Actually, I'm still using Tower of Eons to great succes in casual, With Rings of Brightheart I'm gaining some obscene amounts of life in my 8-post deck
I'm not that disappointed with this, I just would have liked it if they kept the cycle to 4 rather than feeling the need to make one for each color.

Since it doesn't look like anyone else responded to this, according to the link you posted (and I've trusted Magiccards.info for years) you lost the moment you conceded because the combo you suggest is specifically called out as not working.
Bring back Stuffy Doll! But seriously, this will be good for late game sealed deck or draft, as it blows up a creature per turn. But that's about it...Mana Myrs might make it more playable, and anything that reduces activation costs.

I'd guess 6.

4-5 is my guess since repeatable colorless damage is pretty powerful

And so I wouldn't say that it is a mistake to print it.
Still awesome though. Good for EDH.
