The Magic 2011 Sales Solicitation Document is out (or has been since around the 18th) - good reference material, little in the way of spoilage - http://tinyurl.com/28n79z5 (on scribd)
Approximately half new cards is actually new information -- until now they've been careful to avoid pinning down whether this aspect of M10 would be changing or not.

Hopefully it won't follow the 2010 format too closely in regards to the new cards. If the "new" cards get a handful of new functional reprints (and the old M10 functional reprints stay in as well) we could have an awful lot of recently made cards in the core set that are new in name only.

i remember an article somewhere quoting someone at wizards (was it Lapille? i dunno) saying that they knew that the players were pretty pissed about having been hoodwinked on the whole "50% new cards" thing and that in m11, the new cards would NOT just be functional reprints.

Yes, I do remember this. They were surprised that people thought it was such a major issue, but have said they would avoid doing this again. My guess is that we'll see it happen more in other sets however...
I too remember them mentioning that for M11 they would try to have fewer functional reprints, or perhaps it was just that they wouldn't include those in the "new" cards.

They did confirm this somewhere. When they were talking about what changes they were making to the core set, they said that from now on they'd include new cards. (And they said about half the core set would be new cards)
Though, i'll be interested to see if they learned thier lesson about functional reprints, or if they'll count those as "new" cards.

I think that's backwards. The only comments I've seen (and which have been repeated a few times) were that they saw how players were angry (in a way they didn't expect) about functional reprints being called "new cards" for M10 and they said they would not talk about them the same way next time around, without verifying whether the mix of "new" cards would stay the same or anything else specific about the makeup of M11.
Am I the only one that preferred the 40-41 card pre-cons? It lent itself to teaching the game and deckbuilding better. With 40 cards you could have a consistent deck with 1 and 2 of's and then have room for the person learning to add some cards that fit the theme and curve without having to decide what to take out. Then once they hit 60 with what they added, they have to learn how evaluate cards within the deck.
50% new cards? I'm pretty sure I remembered reading somewhere that there wouldn't be nearly as many new cards in M11 as there were in M10. This is kind of discomforting. I don't want my staples to rotate out quite yet. Plus, it seems to contradict the concept of a "Core Set." Doesn't seem to make sense to call it a "Core Set" if it keeps changing every year...

Path to Exile reprinted would sell the set all by itself.
T'would be sauce if they did. They brought back Lightning Bolt in M10, so maybe they'll bring back another old school staple common/uncommon that's been neglected over the years. Not going to hold my breath for Counterspell because that probably won't happen - but maybe Arcane Denial or Swords to Plowshares (although Swords is probably wishful thinking too). Or maybe Isochron Scepter?
I don't think Path to Exile would be reprinted yet either. Although one could argue the point seeing how Alara Block will rotate come October. I still don't see it happening.

Wishful thinking, wishful thinking.
I do not believe we will see Arcane Denial WOTC does not seem to like waiting for the next turns upkeep to do anything. I also do not think that we will see Isochron Scepter because it has imprint.
I for one enjoyed the functional reprints, because it have one more options of highlander format. But I understand why people were unhappy that Wizards said they were new cards.
It seems that the mythic rares will be interesting. Like what planeswalkers, also if we see any of the M10 mythics reprinted.

I too am very interested to see what walkers they reprint. Elspeth instead of ajani? jace 2.0 instead of 1? what about sorin instead of vess. This would be a good chance to increase the supply of the super expensive mythics, economically they shouldnt care that this will reduce the cost of them as thats secondary market business, infact these would be great incentives to crack m11
Is anyone else a little surprised that the lands aren't full art? Doesn't pretty much everyone agree that full art lands look better? Are they THAT worried a newbie won't figure out where to look to see what kind of mana the land produces?

all in all though, this isnt very interesting or useful

M10 was the first good core set in a long time, and I expect M11 to be the same.
As long as they pack it full of Value Rares, a few Chase Mythics, and a couple solid Commons/Uncommon it will sell just as fast as M10.

Though for non-core sets, 60's all the way.

The new cards will sell the set. People already have their paths. The people who buy a lot of cards will purchace the set for the new cards only.
Cheers

Especially considering she is just the 4th most expensive card in standard. Aren't Jace, Gideon, and Baneslayer all still above her?
According to magiccards.info @ 6:43 Central:
Baneslayer Angel
Elspeth, Knight-Errant
Jace, Mind Sculptor
Gideon Jura
So Jace, Elspeth, Gideon and BSA in order from highest to lowest. (Assuming Mid-range prince.
