Finally, White has had removal that put creatures back into their owner's library, like Condemn and Excommunicate.
I don't understand why these cards surprise you. They all seem white enough to me.
In any case, I like Oust at common. Honestly I don't think it's over-powered at all. It, like many cards in the set, help to slow the game down, which is advantageous for those of us who would like to live long enough to play massive creatures like Eldrazi and fully level up our levelers.
so is whites theme "i can do anything" now? wtf has magic turned into :/
yes, basically.
white is the new blue, but taken to the extreme.
Oust is obv very good. throw in a Jace 2.0 for awesomesauce.
mini-Brave the Elements looks like a great limited trick. rebound to swing ftw (unless, ofc, they have an Eldrazi out to block).
the enchantment looks good for limited, but idk about constructed viability. seems like a whole deck of levelers is just asking to get blown out by Consume the Meek and Inquisition (which i believe will see play).
Edit: idk, at least it's cheap enough to drop along with some of the cheaper levelers (meaning cheap level-up costs) in the same turn, so you boost your guy up a bit and don't have to commit too much to the board. just kinda reminds me of this set's Day of Destiny (but obv a bit easier to play).
Emerge Unscathed isn't that great in limited, you're probably not going to get a creature through on the rebound thanks to the eldrazi spawns.
Think outside the box. If it won't allow you to swing through on the rebound, use it to cause an opposing Umbra to slip off. Auras are an important part of RoE limited, destroying one without really destroying one can be useful. Not a reason to high pick this card, but a useful way of getting more out of a rebound.
My white deck jumps for joy while my RB deck sobs in the corner. Seriously? They're giving white another bloody 1 drop removal spell? Granted it's a bad version of Swords to Plowshares but that's like saying Day of Judgment is a bad version of Wrath of God.
Edit: Sorcery? Not too shabby, however it puts in on par with a card like Deathmark.
I'm less impressed with Oust than other people seem to be. I like it, but I think people are getting ahead of themselves in saying that it will compete with Path to Exile. It makes them hiccup something; it can't permanently answer anything other than a Broodmate token.
I could see it over Path in something hyper-aggressive, but at that point the lack-of-card-disadvantage argument is invalidated because you've just counteracted one of your own Lightning Bolts.
In limited it's really strong against the huge guys that your opponent has to sacrifice spawns to bring out... but weak against their guys with come into play abilities. Is it consistently better than Guard Duty? I imagine it will depend on how the format plays. It's not obvious whether it's better to get rid of the creature for a little while or to make it mostly useless forever.
Oust! I was worried about the severe lack of removal in this set. If someone drops an Eldrazi you have so few good options. Now, if it's one with a cast ability, this kinda hurts you. I'd rather hit it with Guard Duty. But besides we had one good black removal and one very painful black removal.
Oust is fantastic! Path has effectively no drawback late game while this has effectively no drawback early game. I would much prefer to oust a thrinax than path it. I suppose you don't really want to oust a Baneslayer Angel... Hmm I love the choices.
Have a helicopter drop you off out front. Light your cigar with a small Indonesian boy holding a black lotus. Then bust out a craw wurm deck with no sleeves. Raw dog shuffle, loose terribly, flip the table, leave in a hovercraft.
Oust is better than Path to Exile. Even considering the sorcery speed. That fact alone makes me very, very sad.
What makes me even sadder is that hordes of casual players will be saying things like, "They get the creature back!"...like those people that can't understand that Progenitus' shuffle clause is a drawback, and think that putting a creature back into your library is somehow a positive.

If God spoke to you, and commanded you to kill your own children, would you do it?
If your answer is "No," then your morality does not come from God's commandments.
If your answer is "Yes," then please, please reconsider.
Time of Heroes- Now that's a hell of a level up incentive. Just imagine the Transcendant Master with this after 1 level up it's a much more respectable 5/5, at level 6 it's a great 8/8 lifelink and at level 12 it's a 11/11 indestructible lifelink. Student of Warfare also becomes pretty insane as a 5/5 first striker at level 2 and a 6/6 doublestriker at level 7. Not sure if it's enough to build a deck around but i'm sure a bunch of people will try.
Oust- some decent quasi removal it's a sort of combination of Swords to Ploughshares and Excommunicate. Still for just 1 mana and giving your opponent 3 life it buys you 2 turns when a potentially deadly eldrazi or the like would otherwise be attacking you. Good limited card, might have some solid constructed potential.
Emerge Unscathed- it's going to essentially be counter target removal spell, next turn target creature becomes unblockable. And for 1 mana that's a pretty good deal.
Not getting rid of stuff permanently balances Oust agaisnt Journey to Nowhere quite nicely, I think.
It does get rid of stuff permanently. If you Terror a creature and then two turns later they draw and play another copy, does that mean the Terror failed to deal with the creature "permanently"?
People need to understand that this is the same situation. The fact that they will probably be drawing what is effectively another copy of the creature a few turns down the line is completely irrelevent. Or what, is the card suddenly something different if they crack a fetch and shuffle the creature away? And if you do contend that the situation is somehow different, then what if they happen to shuffle a different copy back into the same spot?
This card might as well read, "Exile target creature. That creature's controller gains 3 life." It's better than Path to Exile. The only reason it's not better than Swords to Plowshares too is because of the sorcery speed. It will see competitive play in every format, and like many other recent white spells, should probably never have been printed.
White has always had enchantments that give all creatures that meet a certain rule a boost, such as Day of Destiny, Drawn Together, Serra Aviary, and Shared Triumph.
White has always had spells that grant protection to your creatures, like Shelter, Redeem the Lost, Razor Barrier, and Blessed Breath

White Weenie decks would love those as Paths 5-8. Remembers a lot of Lapse of Certainty countering that critical *** or DoJ, though it only costs W
