That is insane, the MBC decks which were on the playable boarderline suddenly get strong with ROE. It's a slow but onesided Barter in Blood which gains you life. Very cool and very playable for limited and constructed.
I recently got to sit in on a R&D meeting at the WotC offices (oddly enough located on the death star!) about Rise of Eldrazi, and heres a transcript of what they had to say:
Darth Vader (president of WotC r&d): Gentlemen, what can we give Jund to make sure it stays the undeniable master of T2? r&d staff: Lord Vader, I present consuming vapors... Vader: Excellent. Jund was missing a MD way to gain life. How bout ramp? r&d: We thought of that lord Vader, We made creatures in all the jund colors that make sacable tokens for free mana, this should speed up the broodmates arrival. Vader: Excellent. I like broodmate, what else could we do with him? r&d: Lord Vader we present Sarkan the Mad... other r&d guy: But what about the other decks out there? What about blue? Vader: *Telekenetic Jedi mind chokes 'other r&d guy'* Anyone else have any ideas?

Nobody has good ideas anymore, they only mind sculpt.
The only reason Jace costs 2UU is because he said so. Even Jace is holding himself back from breaking MAGIC.
LOL! Love it. About time someone said something like this...
But anyway, it's a neat card and better than the edicts. Problem is, we are in a token heavy environment and I don't think it's a horribly good card outside sideboarding. I guess it's a nice trick when someone has sacc'ed all of their tokens to make a big fatty... then it's gone next turn gaining you some sick life.

How would they know that is was the dominating deck at the time they designed this set.

Disagree with this. Consuming Vapors fits nicely in MonoB Control and maybe Vamps, but not a good card for Jund that doesn't care about the lifegain. Sarkhan the Mad is a clunky planeswalker, probably the worst 'walker other than maybe the Chandras. May see him in some Jund list as a 1-of, but I think it's incorrect to run him (i'd rather have an additional Garruk).
I do find the thing about blue funny, and somewhat true
In what universe? If you build a deck like that, and ever draw that hand, I will personally come to wherever you live, perform complicated acts of awestruck ********, then disembowel myself to escape the world that allowed something like this to occur and validate you.
Recent discussions here and elsewhere have made it clear that there seems to be a group of players who consider blue and control synonymous, as if they somehow started playing a game with four identical and "bad" colors that do nothing interesting because they just "turn men sideways" and then true, glorious blue, the only thinking person's color.
EDH decks
Marath, Will of the Wild
Sygg, River Cutthroat
Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer
Marchesa, the Black Rose
Sorry but everyone who thinks this card is average or "not as good as barter" must have failed out of college. This card is near two parts of a Cruel Ultimatum for half the cost and a fraction of the color requirements, oh and btw, it gets cast again for free next turn...

Yet, if you use it out of desperation to clear out a future attacker, then they cast nothing... your rebound spell might just knock off your next attack that would have won you the game. Yeah, sure you're up 4-6 life... but then they get the leg up if you can't bring down another dude.
It's good... but very situational. Sideboard at best, or a great card for Persecutor based Rock decks since you could care less if he dies after a couple of swings.

What do you mean by "knock off" your next attack? The card reads "target player sacrifices a creature". It's not like you have to sac your own creature if they don't have any...
Basically what your saying is that this card is not only good for control decks, but good for aggro as it can essentially add tempo by preventing them from casting a creature for two turns and thus letting you swing through for damage?
Chainer's Edict! What used to be 1B + 5BB is now 3B + 0, and with lifegain tacked on!
Looks like the Gatekeeper has set the new norm for Edict effects. As long as they know what they are doing (i.e. don't bring back Coffers as a land), I approve of the higher power level. Now I value Khalni Gardens even higher
I'm actually surprised this is rare. In a lot of sets, it would make sense; easy 2-for-1 should be rare. But this is the set where it is most likely to do little or nothing by popping spawn tokens.
This card is extremely powerful IMO, better then Tendrils and the new black sweeper. Combine it with Gatekeeper or Marsh casualties etc. and most creature strategies will crumble. I predict this card will go up in price especially when thrinax is gone, I'm not expecting siege gang in M11 either.
This card is pro, my heart grows a lil darker every time i see a black card for RoE spoiled...
I am a disturbingly satisfied G player... (...wuh?)

~Intelligence is Bliss; Ignorance is Denial.
Skill is an ability that relates more so to the type of deck that's built and how said player pilots it. It also relates to the ability to assess the board and use the cards available to you in the most optimal way relative to each situation.
When a deck is filled with above par cards and every play is solid, there comes a diminishing need to "think" for the lack of wanting to use a better word.
My brother and i in our quest to find a sweet rogue deck playtested this. And I have to lol at the people claiming this shouldn't be rare. I can undersetand it may not be the best ever because of roe tokens but just side it out. This card is amazing. I predict it will be in many decks, and is a sleeper card behind all the green excitement (vengevine)
Ps vengevine is only ok. It has to be in such a specific deck to be good.

Maybe he's implying they pushed Jund over the top on purpose.
Thanks to Spiderboy4 of [High~Light Studios] for the awesome sig.
I still like Barter in Blood better.
And what the Hell is up with rarity in this set.
Awesome avatar provided by Krashbot @ [Epic Graphics].
Now that you mention Barter in Blood, i wonder how barter in blood would cost double black to cast, while this is more splashable with one black.
Consuming Vapors is just as good i'd say. and situaltionally better or worse.
Should have had double black methinks

Not just 1 Persecutor, but away to get rid of 2 Persecutors over 2 turns gaining you 12 life!!! Not to shabby IMHO!

good, so then when you pull it, give it to me and continue being ignorant...

Will almost certainly see wide-spread use in standard, possibly extended.
The tempo advantage this thing generates is huge. Not to mention card advantage...
