Though I love Green, the Swamp is my favorite art by far in the series! The textures on the floating things (cube hedrons?) remind me of someof the textures in my 1980 Dieties & Demigods! Especially the meso-American myths!
I love the swamp cubes, but I will always have a place in my heart for the old Zendikar swamp mossballs. And I had no idea that RoE was going to have basics.
Haha! I love that you were attentive enough to catch Glimmervoid, but not to catch that the subject of the photo is totally not a dude.

So some of the hedrons will assemble into larger structures, like the stars above the Mountain, and the rows shown in the Island.
Other hedrons will change their shape or come apart to reveal their innards: they are divided across the middle, on the forest, or split apart into component facets, on the Plains.
The cubes on the Swamp may be a different kind of hedron, or not a hedron at all, but a separate Eldrazi structure with a different function. They are present on the full-art Zen swamps but got a cleanup so now you can see that they are a lot like the cubes in the Eldrazi monument.
The eye of Ugin is a mana producing hedron. From its flavour text, it also must 'close' so that the Eldrazi can wake up and be freed. It may act through the other hedrons to suppress the Eldrazi, so when it goes inactive, the Eldrazi are released. Or, it may need to be activated or be brought in proximity to the other hedrons to activate them and cause them to change conformation/split open/line up/clean up and thus free the Eldrazi.
In what universe? If you build a deck like that, and ever draw that hand, I will personally come to wherever you live, perform complicated acts of awestruck ********, then disembowel myself to escape the world that allowed something like this to occur and validate you.
It's interesting that all the hedrons are different shapes (or unfold differently) for the different types of mana, given that the Eldrazi are presumably fueled by something other than colored mana.
Briliant art! I've always thought about getting a playmat and now I'm definately motivated in getting one. The island is sweet but Raging Ravine is my favourite manland so its a toss up between those two. I also like how the mats have life counters too, neat idea.

All of them have some kind of artifact looking thing. Wonder what those things do. Has the story behind Zendikar explained them fully yet?
I'll have to assume you're talking about the hedrons? Through Zendikar and Worldwake they've just been giant floating things throughout the plane. But now in Rise of the Eldrazi, they're opening.

Those are sooo epic! Sweet! The hedrons are coming together and opening! Man, what if there are different parts to one single eldrazi card like B.F.M and you have to get all the parts (from different hedrons floating in the sky) to play it. Sweet! Epic! They are all lining up to release an army of Eldrazi! and the play mats have life counting number on them! Sweet! Can't Wait!
Epic sauce dripping! The artworks convey a sense of foreboding.
I think I could hear the music of 2001: A Space Odyssey somewhere...

Most playmats go for around $10 in my experience, although it's really up to your LGS. Starcitygames has most of theirs at $9.99.
