Hrm. I want one of these. The art doesn't really fit as well as the old one, but it looks nice to me. Anyone who's complaining can always send one my way. I'll be happy. =]
Hey! Beggars cant be choosers!
Be happy about the card! It was a very cool card back then. I just hope they reprint more and more older cards for EDH players.

3. an assembly, meeting place, television program, etc., for the discussion of questions of public interest.
Discussion, y'know? Like differing opinions. Sure, you can voice your opinion that you're happy with what you get. But don't tell other people to be happy. I'm sick of people saying, "Wizards doesn't have to do this, guys." or "It's a free card, you should be happy with that." Promotionals are supposed to be exciting or interesting in some way, and by voicing disapproval, you let Wizards know that they were off the mark. In a way, you are providing a valuable service to them. If you tell them that you are happy with whatever they choose, there is no incentive for them put any effort into picking a good, interesting, or even playable promo.
If you don't like this card, it's your responsibility to say so, and forums like MTG Salvation are the place for that. So don't tell me (or anyone) to eat what they serve and like it.
To elaborate on the disclaimer, I like Avatar of Woe, and have been trying to get my hands on one for a while. My only problem with this specific promo is the art. It is in the case of other things *cough*textlesscancel*cough* that I am of the opinion that Wizards has failed on the whole.
Heh, definitely, it could've been much worse. A textless alt art Cancel would have made Magic players cry.
Now that it's been mentioned that this card will be hard to attain just based on the number of pro stops, this is a good pick. It would have been bloody murder if the Jitte had been here instead.
Haha! I love that you were attentive enough to catch Glimmervoid, but not to catch that the subject of the photo is totally not a dude.

Was always a big fan of this card, and now it's FINALLY in modern frames...but...the old art was 100000x better, a classic. That hurts a bit. Ah well, maybe I'll try and hunt down a few of these.
What a crappy card choice. Completely unplayable in any serious constructed format. Can't understand why they choose absolute top cards for GP Promos (mox, jitte), and jank usable only in some meaningless casual formats for PT promos (treva, this).
I like the art though, always been a fan of rk post art.
I love the art, rk did a nice job on it. However, it seems that Wizards is continually making very odd card choices for the Pro Tour Promo. Treva, the Renewer didn't make much sense either. I'll hunt one of these down just to get it signed, maybe for EDH, but other than that, it's pretty lack-luster.

I guess I should of said that I actually think its a cool card and I actually do play EDH but it just seems backwards that they give out casual cards at a event that is invite only where the best of the best play and they give out tournie staples at events that are open to everyone.
That really actually makes a certain kind of sense to me. Giving tournament cards to people playing casual formats either helps them get a "leg up" to playing more competitively or gives them trade fodder to pawn off on Spikier players; giving EDH cards like Treva and Avatar of Woe gives the large number of Pros who play EDH for fun something that's guaranteed to be "useful" just for showing up (whereas actual competitive staples would just wind up giving lots of people their fifth of something they're already full up on.)
You could argue that it's not the best way to do things anyway, but I do think there's at least a plausible reason that this is how they divide up the promos. (Treva last year pretty much cemented in my mind the idea that PT promos are selected explicitly for EDH purposes.)
Yes, if you change the Avatar color, it still can be blocked only by black or artifact creatures. With Intimidate, it would only be blocked by creatures of its color or artifact ones.
Ahhhh! Thanks. That makes sense, particularly with gold cards with fear.
Huh I was surprised they didnt' replace Fear with Intimidate for it, but Nof made a good point that someone can change the color and make the intimidate ability useless, which takes away the coolness factor of the card.
Yes its a promo that isn't a tier 1 card in any non-casual format but its the promo for the people that walk in, sign up for side events and such. It's a nice card, not exactly a big fan of the artwork but hey not every promo is going to have kick ass artwork.
I think some people don't understand that the Mirrans are the bad guys. Arcbound Ravager is Mirran. Phyrexia are the good guys coming in to conquer an evil, evil world.
I rather like the art, short of her having three arms, four would've been better.
Did you know she has three in the original art as well? I didn't until I looked at this card and examined the original more carefully. I think I like how it was in the original, because it's there, but understated, more subtle. It kind of throws off the aesthetics because it's so prominent in the new one.
Understand, Dredge is not really a Magic: The Gathering deck. When a card is playable in it, it doesn't mean it's a tournament playable card. It means it's playable in whatever crazy fantasy world that Dredge operates in.
Avatar of Woe makes little sense as a pro tour promo, but I definently want one for my EDH decks.
2007 was Eternal dragon, 2008 was Mirari's wake, and 2009 was Treva, the renewer. They are all fun cards that will find some use, but aren't really used in competitive, save for the time eternal dragon was in standard many years ago. It is nice that they commissioned Rk Post to re-envision the Avatar of woe and how they're tying DCI foils with the yellow-greenish foil in all their cards. [the jittes color matches the scythe]

Purely out of love for RK Posts art (and my unfortunate obsession with getting any of the promo cards into my collection) absolutely love that they picked this one for the Pro Tour card.
Gorgeous picture.
How do you attain these pro tour promos?
