It's gonna be funny. At the ZEN prerelease people will be windmill slamming foil basic lands.
fixed and QFT:link:!
no more foil lands:-/, but these look amazing! i actually started hyperventilating when i saw this, i have no un-lands and was about to buy some for 3-5ea, but this is just amazing...i wonder if for the prerelease they supply us with these lands...
i'm really excited, this will make any pack with a jank rare much more bearable:D
I kinda wonder why they didn't do this before though. It costs just as much to print a full card of art as a half card of art and half card of W. And obviously by the immediate response, it was a smart move.
It might cost them slightly more to pay the artist to create full frame sized art than it does to make the normal-sized art. Still, this is a good change.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):

I am speculating here, but I think they will send shops and TOs boxes of the regular lands (the kind we'll find in intro packs). These full art lands are designed to sell boosters and fat packs, if they ship them out to every shop in the land then they won't be as special.
This is one of the smartest things Wizards has done lately, and it's SO simple. It's ridiculously simple. But it convinced me to buy a box of Zendikar, and I wasn't sure if I would. The last box I bought was Lorwyn, I'm definitely not a player who buys a box of every set.

I bet it wont. When I paint a 9"x7" painting I don't charge more than a 7"x9" painting. You might be right, but these illustrators all seem to work on a consistent size. I thought I saw somewhere that they just rotate. Either way, it is a brilliant move on their part.
I think it might have to do with the high number of basic land that comes in every intro pack...
Intro packs are 41 card decks. The M10 Intro decks have 16 or 17 Basic Lands, while Fat Packs have a block of 40, not counting the lands in each Booster.
I'll stick with my original idea: WotC changed their minds about the look for lands mid-printing.

May your games be chaotic and your decks be Rogue.
I...wow. I can honestly say my jaw dropped when I saw that. I concur about the fat packs, and to a lesser extent, the need for clean pants and a good doctor :D.
Well, fantastic. I'm already blown away. Throw in a Swamp or a Mountain done by Chippy, and I will be paying ludicrous amounts of money on basic land.
Good thing, too. I played in a tourney yesterday and every other player had a deck full of foil or Un-lands, and my Chippy landbase seemed less impressive by comparison.
So, that seals it. I'm buying at least a box of Zendikar, just for 36 basic land.
These lands are amazing. I'm definitely going to hoard my Zendikar lands, and probably use them in every deck I make from then on out. Kudos to Wizards for finally putting textless lands in a regular set!
Hey, me too! Except that I had to leave my wife who was having a baby to go to the computer. I feel kinda bad about that, but magic cards are more important than family.
So its Zendikar, Saga, and Ravnica lands for all my decks now I guess.
Even with out the full art they are teh sex.

Don't you see that the whole aim of Moderators is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make infractions literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever be needed, will be expressed by exactly one word, with its meaning rigidly defined and all its subsidiary meanings rubbed out and forgotten.

Pardon me, then. I've never purchased a Fat Pack, so I was unaware of the included block of land.
So, my original idea wasn't 100% correct, but I still feel like the purpose is somehow linked to the concept that Wizards knows these lands are special, and the level of ease of procuring these lands from Intro Packs compared to Fat Packs.
Is it just me, or maybe these new frames mean that the "future shifted" template from Future Sight might be the template for zendikar. what do you guys think?
I was thinking the same thing when i first looked at these lands. It reminded me greatly of the text less creatures from futuresight (Blade of the Sixth Pride).
Do you guys think that the full art lands are going to be for this set only or do you think that Wizards is going to start doing this with every set from here on out?

I sort of hope it's only this set. The less EA basic land there is, the cooler it is when you see it.

If you mean four new basic lands for each set in Zendikar, I hope not. If you mean just carrying on the full-frame art for lands in boosters and fat packs, I'm thinking it's pretty damn likely. I'm also thinking that unless they put some serious chase rares in the intro packs, the sales of 'em are probably going to push WotC to just eliminate basic lands with text boxes.

I like this decision a lot. Makes me want basic lands, for the first time (Un- lands are overpriced).
Or Chippy... Or Rob Alexander...

Simplified. my mind just exploded from thinking about that.
