edit: Almost all of them are. There are very few exceptions... I'd say it's probably because rares would be worth too much (Just think how much more competitive FNMs would be if the promo was a good rare!) and common foils are already pretty easily accessible (in comparison to the other rarities at least) so making promo foils of them... well, I for one certainly wouldn't be excited.
Great, just what I needed. Another piece of my burn deck that'll rotate in 9 months...
I'm pretty fed up with foils by now. They're pretty much automatically considered "marked" from the day they're opened, so unless I can get a hideously large portion of my deck foil, I won't be able to use them outside an FNM, and even there I fear for their safety (Our area's only Premier level TO has a strong anti-foil stance, and with no competition around, fear of being penalized has been drilled all the way down to the local level)
I wish wizards would print more textless promos, rather than all these foils I'm never going to be able to use...

FatWizard gets +1. This is a good way to get people into Extended; there a tons of Standard-legal promos already, and I for one don't want to see them skip all the possibilities in the sets between current Standard and what they've done already. Plus, it takes a while for people to realize how truly good some uncommons are; that's what makes them classic and FNMable.
Do you think they saw the reaction to Standard legal FNM cards last year and decided not to keep doing it?
(You know, all those FNM cards that were only standard legal until Shards came out...)
If so, *facepalm*
It's very possible that they decided to switch that plan once they started the WPN promo cards. With Woolly Thoctar and Sprouting Thrinax in the Shards kit, and 2 more in the upcoming Conflux kit (which does exist), it's possible that all of the good promoable cards from the new sets will happen by way of these casual promos.
With everything in constant flux (or shall I shorten it to con-flux? amirite? amirite?), I wouldn't doubt that this is the case.

This is probably the worst signature in the history of signatures.
Also does anyone remember the last few FNM promos that were standard legal? Yeah we had Wall of Roots, but Desert? Serrated Arrows? RESURRECTION?!?!? Yeah. I'll take extended legal thank you very much.

5th is just a guy snapping his fingers. Maybe Nicol Bolas can get mana that way, but I can't.
Why do people want standard foils? I mean, seriously - new frame foils are a joke to come by anyways. IMO, they should do exclusively old-frame foils in the new frame, which kinda has a point outside of getting you a foil you can't use.

You know what would fix everything? EXTENDED FNM, why won't you do it, WotC?
Because it's extremely hard to keep up with and break into? I love extended, but I would think that until fetches rotate, people would never come to them. Even afterwards, the format is ridiculously fast right now, and standard already costs a fortune. :\
Standard FNM cards are perfectly acceptable. They just choose the worst cards to use... For instance, Wall of Roots was a great choice (as would Ktichen Finks be, etc). As was Pendelhaven. However... Ressurection? Wha... *dies a little inside*
If they keep it at or above the $2 mark, they can't go wrong. I'll take a Tidehollow Sculler FNM card please.

Yeah, agreed, there are plenty of things that could be used as Standard FNM promos, Tidehollow Sculler is a good example. There are also cards like Deft Duelist, Rhox War Monk, etc, etc, etc.

Awesome! Someone decided to be the straw-man in my straw man argument! Thanks, Griever9977!
They didn't even choose proven Lorwyn block uncommons like, say, Wren's Run Vanquisher, or Wizened Cenn, or Merrow Reejerey, that, to my knowledge, hadn't been made into promos yet. They chose ALL cards from the block that was about to rotate into Extended, many that they could have known would be unplayable in competitive Extended.
I mean, Wall of Roots was quite a good choice, but most of the rest weren't.
Yeah...the only good FNM foils that were standard legal when printed that were good were pendelhaven and wall of roots especially. Extended is smart.
As for someone saying standard is expensive--it is. The most expensive format in the game is standard because if you play it competitively for a good few years you'll probably have played a LOT of different decks I'm guessing that when they cycle out become worthless chunks of cards that are worth 1/5 of what they were worth when they were standard.
FNM Lotus Petal FTW!!!
Yeah Tidehollow Sculler is gonna be used in legacy even I actually faced a deck that ran the sculler in legacy...was a wow to me but it's a very solid card.

I couldn't agree more. FNM was used to update the template on older cards, using the original artwork with the new foiling process. now they use alt-art, which is not a bad thing (although I'd stick to old art), but please...keep bringing back OLD cards that were never updated...
Dark Ritual, anyone?
An excellent card to be sure, but whatever happenned to them saying they were going to switch over to standard only fnm foils starting soon (presumably the first of the year)?
They made that announcement during the spring, and then made four consecutive Standard-legal promos. They never stated that it would be a permanent change.

I do believe it WAS supposed to be a permanent change, the change was that they were started to cycle towards only t2 fnm cards, since the format could only be t2, and that by the start of the year it would be done. I'm sure someone can find the link.

Reprinting Lotus Petal might be nice... Dromar's Charm? That's definitely lamer than at least an Extended legal competitively-unplayable card.
At least for some of the time, the FNM promo system was set up to reward newer players (Standard or Draft/Sealed players) with cards to help them get into Extended. That's why FNM can only be newer formats and FNM cards used to be cards that were just Extended legal IIRC.
I'm only disappointed that they dropped their flirtation with Standard legal FNM cards because they picked kind of a bad time to do it. Note that they tend to use uncommons for promos -- commons are really easy to get, but making rares promos tends to annoy some collectors.
During Ravnica block, there were tons of Standard playable, good uncommons (and some, like Remand, did make it onto FNM cards).
In Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block, and to some extent with Shards, there are quite a few really good uncommons.
Time Spiral block has very few really good uncommons... so for them to choose to focus on Standard promos with Time Spiral block on the wane forced them to push the envelope (which they didn't really do) or else make some unexciting promos (Wall of Roots excluded).
...That's what I thought, but I'm realizing now that it wasn't so much Standard legal cards that they used, but Time Spiral timeshifted cards...
Kinda wish they'd said so at the time, but I understand that they didn't want to ruin the surprise.

I'm not sure why, during the Lorwyn & Shadowmoor blocks they've decided to only print Extended/Legacy/Vintage legal cards. I would love to see some Standard playable promos. Now, I'm not saying all FNM promos need to be Standard, but at least a couple would be nice.

Gave it all away for a memory and a quiet lie.
