The picture of the card isn't loading but I'm assuming it's leftovers of the previous promo Hippy. Kind of cool though that they are trying to do special things involving promos though.
Edit: According to Dauphin the image is of the old promo. Picture attached.
Argh, sarnathed! I wanted to post this same thing, but I was still searching the forums for duplicate threads! Just as I was about to start a new one, yours pops up Well, first time sarnathed

Since its for the holidays, maybe theyre going for some 'ghost of chistmas past' motiff, in which case old art hyppy would be very appropriate
Now THAT would be cool... similar style, but "Scrooged".
I also got this email, but was wondering about a couple things...
1. What do they mean by playing "Shards of Alara"?
2. If a place you go to has sanctioned Friday Night tourneys, but they aren't titled FNM's this month (they didn't register in time to get the cards) will that still count?
1. Because these are leftover foils from a few years ago when Hippie was first reprinted
2. It's the better artwork
3. Even if you don't personally agree it's the better artwork, people tend to like original artwork, especially on promo cards like Hippie, Kird Ape, Icy Manipulator, and Juggernaut which are difficult to find with the original art and black borders.

Great, so now all I have to do is trust that my local store (which only runs FNM every other week) will actually get enough ppl to have 2 sanctioned events. I tell you, it sucks having a store where magic is merely "that game over there". Oh well. Promos are promos and if I manage to get the promo, hurray!
My LCS only does Standard Constructed for FNM. Does this qualify?
Btw, I never received my last MPR, even though it's been listed as "sent" for quite some time. How do I contact WotC about this? I'm having some difficulty finding the appropriate customer support e-mail address.
I approve of this highly. Old school hippie with BB and foil. Merry Freaking Christmas. As long as the typical standard FNM is what qualifies for this, I am happy.
Shade: How long is "quite some time"? It can take 4-6 weeks to mail, or more depending on where you live.

Don't forget to update your address too.
It's been at least a month, and considering that people were receiving well before the MPR sheet was marked as "sent," it's probably been longer than that.
And I live in Indy, so there's no way it should be taking this long.

Got 4 of them from MPR a couple years ago, hope the 5th one will make up for the value loss of those 4.
And talking about value loss, I have a feeling it's not going to be reprinted in 11th anyway.
On a sad note, I just found out today that my local Magic retailer is gone (Gamer's Desire in Fishers, Indiana). I don't know if they re-located or just closed shop, but their phone number is disconnected, which is never a good sign. If they're gone, that pretty much rings the death knell for competitive Magic for me. Not that I got to play a ton (I usually have to work on Friday nights), but still, there is no close alternative for me now.
From my reading of the e-mail and my understanding of the sanctioning process (which is decent), these should only go for "authentic" FNMs, and I would be VERY surprised if the format mattered. We alternate weeks Sealed-Standard-Draft-Standard.
Formal FNM sanctioning means (essentially) that they have the FNM promo Isochron Scepters this month and Shrapnel Blast next month. Occasionally, our store will miss the sanctioning deadline for FNM (usually the 20th of each month) and they'll still let us sanction it as FNM, but with the stipulation that we're not getting the promo cards (then the store contributes stuff instead), but if the deadline is missed by too much, we sometimes need to just sanction "Magic tournaments on Friday nights", which wouldn't count toward a shiny Hippy. So, if your local shop has a habit of missing formal FNM sanctioning, it might be good to check up with the organizer and make sure they get their request in by the 20th.
Sorry to hear about your store, Shade. We're pretty lucky to have about a half dozen stores within about a 30 minute drive. While some are having a tough time, most are doing OK, with a couple opening in just the last few years. Best of luck in finding a new place to play competitively.
Cheers.

So, are they saying that I have to play a whole deck of SoA cards or That I just have to run SoA stuff...If the last one is the case then I'm totally getting these. However, that brings up a new question. Will there be a Christmas shipping? It would make sense, they would be making up to everyone who got screwed over in the last one. I don't think I wanna wait 'til march for a Christmas gift.

I don't understand how this is confusing.
Play in two FNMs in the next month, and get the Hippie.
Why does it say 'play with SOA cards'? Because that is the newest set, the set we are supposed to be drafting, and recently arrived into the sets available for standard.
