Well, this confirms that the mechanical tie of Naya is "5 power creatures" and as expected, it is horrible, horrible. I really hope that the team that made Naya is not left alone with the design of a set ever again. Ken Nagle (Lead of Naya): Im sorry, it seems not even Rosewater in your team could prevent the debacle. I'd go off a limb to say that his is the only good Nayan card spoiled yet: Wooly Thoctar. On the other hand, Brian Tinsman (lead of Bant, which spoiled cards have been consistently good) you have a brilliant magic design future ahead.
EDIT: OMG Colonel, sir! May I express how much I've been awaiting for you and your A(for awesomeness)-Team?
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
I'm getting a bit tired of dumb stories people give when they spoil stuff. Is it too much to ask to just give the facts of the card without screwing with us wile your doing it? *sigh
Dude, the stories are my favourite part of rumour season...
It makes it a little more fun reading about new cards...

There's no penalty for failing to sacrifice a Homonculus.
This is actually kind of nice for a RGW big creature stompy deck. One of the biggest problems that archetype has is running out of big dudes to play. If she gets previewed, it'll likely be in Serious Fun. She'd be pretty useful in multiplayer, especially if you can slap a Lightning Greaves/Shield of the Oversoul on her.
Anyhow, I appreciate the effort and the info, no matter the form.
The card itself looks too bad to be true. You're paying 3 mana (all different colors) for a 2/3, presumably legendary creature, with no useful abilities. Then, when you get 6 mana (3 of which are the same as the nasty cc of the card) you may put a big man into play. Horrible. If she was 4/4 or something, I could get it, but this limits it to limited unless something jawdropping gets printed that can make this one good. Legends that are only good in limited are a waste.

good grief. As much as I think it's a cool card, it's yet another mythic that I would hate to pack-pull. I don't know who said it but WotC needs to show us some rares that can be considered tournament-staple quality to justify having the mythics

Damn it, I'm a self-proclaimed Timmy, I love my big, fat, usually green creatures, but this is getting ridiculous... when I play fatties, I tend to have a few in the deck, but this card only seems useful if you are loaded with fat. If you don't have a 5 or greater powered critter in those top five cards, you've just pissed away 6 mana for a turn. And knowing my luck, that's exactly what would happen.
This is just my own opinion, but... Not. Even. For. Casual.
Unless it's $1, but other than that, no.

I like the card. Should be fun for casual players, and the colors make sense. However, I'm really worried that Naya's big creature theme won't work out so well for competitive constructed.
@Master of White Knights - Jeez... just be glad you have info. St@rwizard and any other rumormonger will give information in whichever manner they see fit. And it's definitely not rude whining that will compel them to do otherwise.
Yeah when Naya's theme was revealed to be creatures with 5+ power I cringed. Land matters would have been a much more interesting theme that plays to a competetive strength of green, In order for Naya to be strong in constructed there are going to have to be some fat with evasion and hopefully some flash. I kinda of have a feeling that I am going to end up playing Naya's colors but really using jund and bant.
I am not a fan of the card but you (and a lot of others) seem to miss that putting a card into play from the top 5 of your library is not the same as putting a card from your hand into play. Sure once you get to 6 mana pretty much anything you draw in your deck should be castable (almost all the reasonable fat that sees competitive play is like that). However you still draw only one card at a time, and this puts the creature directly into play from the library. It is a pretty important distinction, because once you get the abiltiy online, not only you draw an extra card, you pretty much ensure that the extra card will always be good instead of yet another land/mana elf draw. Not to mention this happens on instant speed too it seems, and gets past most counters.
Fat-creature decks really hate counters and running out of fat, and this alleviates exactly that. Not to mention it survives the Naya charm's clasm effect due to the 3 toughness.
You make some great points about card advantage and getting past counters that are important, but as far as constructed is concerned 6 mana is pretty expensive, by the time you pay for this ability control should have stablized and not really care, and aggro should be ready to burn you out. This card makes me miss wall of roots.
This is definitely not a competitive card. #1 rule of competitive magic, if it has a luck factor...the outcome had better be absolutely amazing, and the cost had better be extremely cheap (i.e. Countertop).
Hmmm, so Naya's whole theme is critters with power 5 or more?
They'll try to find SOME way of making this theme playable. Perhaps with really good acceleration and fixing. They wouldn't make a whole shard of jank.
That said, the three cards we've seen that reference this theme are not so good. This one is at least fun. It's miles better than Elvish Piper (card advantage!) but still not constructed worthy. Not limited-worthy either, unless you happen to draft all beef, but then your curve is probably horrible.
The best use for this one is as an EDH general. Yay all-fat deck!
Oh, and if this does get used in constructed, it will be because of Cloudthresher.

Arrghh. That fantastic art wasted on that pile of crap card? I tend to play aggro decks, namely zoo-esque ones, but this 5+ power theme is seeming to put the end to that for a while. Ugh. Utter crap.
Well we have yet to see barely any of the "behemoths" of Naya and everyone's screaming unplayable. We have...
Wolly Thoctar

All very playable cards and a lot we havent even seen yet, some might have outrageous mana costs, so Mayael makes some good use. Six mana for a big creature is good, especially when it's coming straight from your library at instant speed. Hell this is WGRwe're talking about, we have mana accel for her ability AND all the new stuff from Alara. Gah... people complaining cuz the card doesn't fit them...

I agree...we have seen too few cards in the grand scheme of things to be aqble to judge the playability of each shard's theme/mechanical focus. Wizards has been trying to combine white's desire to play agressive creaturesa dn also run a prison/control game for ages and they seem to be doing the best job of it that I have ever seen in alara with bant. I am assuming that naya may well do the same thing for green's traditional love for fat.
Idealy the shards will fall into place thusly
Bant-Aggro/control that works without playing like fish or faeries
Esper-Artifacts, only not broken
Grixis-Graveyard, only not too fast or format dominating
Jund-Sacrifice theme actually implemented well for once.
Naya-Fat creature rush that actually works (ie. it doesn't sacrifice very much early board position or card advantage/play advantage in exchange for hard to deal with mid/late game creatures.)

Considering you can get +3/+1 (Woolly Thoctar) and non-legendary for the same price and 2 degrees of rarity less, the ability on this guy had better be phenomenal. If it cost :symg:, I might test it in a deck, but even so, why not just play Thoctar or something in its place? Even if you pay 3RGW, after your initial investment and waiting a full turn because of summoning sickness, and got lucky and hit say Rith the Awakener, how far ahead are you? You paid 3RRGGWW, and a full turn to get Rith into play.
Bottom line: It has to survive not just one full turn but two full turns AND find a creature both times you activate it just to make it worthwhile. If he dies before then, or ever misses finding a fatty, you haven't broken even.
Seriously, is the point of mythics "cards that can range in power level from 'crap common' to 'chase rare'"?
Well I for one am glad that they've printed another unplayable mythic. It's mythic so you're hardly ever going to open one, and it means there's now a smaller chance of a(nother) chase mythic. It's a great timmy card for noobs who MaRo thinks will love opening mythics just because they're mythic
Quote from MaRo »
Knowing that you have the potential to open something you can show off to all your friends is very compelling and helps draw new players into the game. ()
and real players won't have to worry about opening it because there won't be many of them.

Seriously, is the point of mythics "cards that can range in power level from 'crap common' to 'chase rare'"?
Yeah, it seems to me that the whole Mythic Rare thing has been uneven over all, and not just from a power POV. The Ultimatums should have all been Mythic Rares, because in my conception Mythic Rares should produce a sense of awe or uniqueness - they may not always be good from a competitive view or easily playable, but they should all scream "super unique" (Planeswalkers) or "when I hit the table, if you manage to actually get me out there and can't stop me, put your head between your legs and... well, you know the rest." (Most of the Ultimatums).
This (Mayael) to me just screams "hah, look at all that mana you invested! Sucker! And can you believe you actually paid $4 to pull me from this pack? Joke's on you, even Timmy's won't look at me twice!"
That ability is too risky for what is likely to be a poor return, on a deck filled with fat that would be hard to cast if that is what most of the deck was made of (which is why Giants were such a lousy tribe - you couldn't make a functional deck with them. I know. I tried. Hard).
This card has been crafted not from cardboard and ink, but from pure, unadulterated fail. I prefer... god, I can't believe I'm saying this... I... prefer...

It's all about context. People thought Myr enforcer wasn't that good until they played him at the prerelease, then the environment became clear and the sensation of playing things by just dropping cards on the table began to define a whole format. Ken Nagle is such a green fan I could see him trying to make as many 5 power creatures in his shard as possible - he is on a mission to make green creatures viable threats, rather than something that you just laugh at because you're playing one of the 4 other colours. Without the context of the set, this cards usefullness in any type of deck is too vague.
