The art in this game has become amazing. My only complaint is with the name "Prince of Thralls." But I'm sure what with it being an obvious Grixis art that it will end up on a card with a more sensible name like "Voracious Demon-Spawn."
Wow...the Grixis demons all look like giants compared to skeletons used as references in their art. Seems like they might almost be a fattie color in Shards. Second of all, the Filigree-Laden Sphinx looks cool. Well...all of this art looks pretty good. The coolest-looking one to me, however, is the Master of Etherium. I will play that card in Neo-States in foil. No matter how crappy!
Ok all of those are awesome. However my favorite are Etherium, Sharuum and Kresh.
It would appear that MTG has finally gotten back to the back-breakingly wonderful arts that I love, as these are are all good, I don't see a single bad art in this batch, albiet I've never been fond of Prince of Thrall's art.
As for the ones I do like.
Master of Etherium: Is it me or is his entire body save for face and hand made of filigree? Jesus Tapdancing Christ that's a lot of power... MORE BLUE MIDGETS!
Sharuum the Hegemon: Ok that is one big Sphinx! And it looks like she's got a lot of Filigree too! She's a "goddess" of some kind i bet!
Kresh the Bloodbraided: Ok so I just really like the berserker look to him...
Seems like these "Thralls" might be a nod to the red/black ogres and demons theme from kamigawa. Can't say i'm over excited but i guess we can all appreciate the decks where we see how much damage we can deal to ourselves before dealing any to the opponent.
Love the druid of anima art, I think Naya will definitely be my favorite (being a big time aggro fan)
Kresh and Master of Etherium make me guess that shards will still be sporting plenty of elementals.
Sharuum intrigues me, I hope they have plenty of obscure creature types like her in the set. She looks like a blue white sphinx to me.
Shards will definitely be a welcome break from grinding through 4 sets of lorwyn flavor but I still think they could have left humans on the back burner for a few more sets, maybe allow for some more creative creature types. There again, if humans mean we won't have to see anymore noggles or boggles its fine with me.
just putting my two cents in. = )
Addition: Interesting tidbit for those who care. If you don't know, Hegemon means, literally "One who practices Hegemony" which in turn means a supreme rule from one source or something to that effect. This leads me to believe that Sharuum will be a three color legend that could have some ability similar to Grand Arbiter Augustin IV except with black and white, and chances are with a title like hers will be a mythic rare.
Wow , Sharuum just screams of "Respect me, or i'll blow your heads off mentally". Or something like that. Quite a take on a sphinx. I hope she's featured on the novel or something, that would be kind of a waste if she didn't.
This set is building up to be another well of amazing art pieces.

Prince of Thralls: what a beastly demon. Great picture, though doesn't quite have the majestic look of a prince, not even a demon prince.
Master of Etherium looks really mysterious, cradling a somewhat-disturbing-looking kid like that. He looks like a supervillain with electricity powers. And three fingers?

The Traitor King looks like he'll probably have some sort of "sac your own guys to make me better" ability... and probably reanimate them as Skellies later.
Master of Etherium is so badass... but that midget thing is creepin' me out.

Do I Contradict Myself? Very Well Then I Contradict Myself.
If Kresh had more than 3 toughness, I'd say he'd see play too. But 5 mana for a 3/3 makes him so vulnerable to basic removal that its really not a great investment. I know everything dies, but not everything dies equally
So apart from Druid of Anima, all of these would me mythics, right? I guess Master of Etherium and Prince of Thrulls don't have to be Legendary but it really seem to me like they are. And in any case even if they are not Legendary they sound like they would be part of the non-Legendary Mythic cycle along with Hellkite Overlord (Prince, Master, Overlord...)
Am I the only one that finds the demon's horns scarily impressive?
I mean, think at the proportions: look at Sedris, the Traitor's King head, then compare to his horns, then compare to the tiny skeletons! Gigantic! Sharuum the Hegemon is by far my favourite of this batch, but also Master of Etherium is very cool.
The Druid of the Anima is very well done ( magnetic eyes ), but nothing new.
First, some old art and their names:
That last one sounds like a legend, huh? There's more, but first, let me show you this one:
That's a lot of filligree.
And finally, more legends!
Wow.
Enjoy!

Sharuum the Hegemon is just incredible art.
A question: how many artists can people identify?
The word "hegemon" has been around LONG before Ender's Game. There's no reason whatsoever to suppose this card has anything to do with Ender's Game.
- Jon Finkel believes in maintaining a healthy, balanced diet. He gets all his fiber from eating Magic cards for breakfast, and all his protein from eating Magic players for lunch.
Im loving the artwork of this set more and more as each new piece comes in
Well I know that Prince of Thralls is by Paul Bonner.
I recognize the artist sigs on Kresh and Sharuum but i can't place them...

I find the huge Grixis demons actually quite cool! Just playing such a big grinning demon and watch him smash the opponents face!
Thank you for those nice "wallpapers"
