Ummmm... 2 things actually:
1. I assumed he would be G/W not R/W, but his last ability is definitely a R/W ability
2. "Planeswalker - Ajani"! That means you can only have the Lorwyn version or this version in play, but not both! What's up with that?!?!?
Well I'm happy he's a planeswalker cause that means I was right, but I don't like him that much. He's 2 colors so he should be more powerful than Goldmane, right? Goldmane has higher loyalty. Vengeant does have a better +1 ability but Helix is -2 and Glorious Anthem with vigilance is -1?
A) What a weird set of abilities. Obviously the last one is a ball-buster but the first one seems pretty weak. Nice to have repeatable Lightning Helixs on card though. I also assume Ajani is RW since he is associated with Naya and RW are the allies to green. I wonder what that means, if anything, with regard to Mr Vol and his associations.
B) The site says this will be the card given out for both the pre-release AND release. Boo-urns to that I say. I guess with the pre-release and release so close together, there is less reason to go to both.
Ummmm..... WOWOWOW. That card is teh nutz.
Locking down a problem creature, until you feel like finishing off players/creatures with Lightning Helixes, or just going for the autowin. Very cool. Mythic rare (of course... which is why I assumed it was a PW), and glad to see they took the right direction, and gave a planeswalker just an alternate form, instead of some stupid "Legend" thing.
Only one problem. The art completely blows. Nobody will care, since it's a friggin promo Mythic rare, and the card is definitely going to see play, but... Ew. I normally REALLY like Jason Chan's work, but Ajani looks stupid. The non-promo art is way better.
I think it's the bland, computer shading on his torso and face (and the relatively uninspired facial expression). I'd love to call fake just for the hopes of better art, but that's not gonna happen if fnord posted it.
Umm... is his rarity purple, or is that a weird effect of the foiling?
Where have you been? O_o The new set contains Mythic rares (even MORE rare than rares...), and they will have a copper red rarity symbol. Go to the [ALA] Compiled Info thread for all the info.
im stunned. i thought he would have been g/w. nice card though, like the Armageddon ability. so the 'walkers will be based upon their respective shards allied colors. interesting
The first ability is kinda like a Pacifism + Stone Rain, depending on what you want it to do. Kinda cool.

A little surprised, i was not expecting him to be a walker... though he makes sense in this state. Still enraged about loosing his brother. I was proven wrong, and I'm not upset about it lol.
I like him, Lightning Helix is sweet. Though, i dont like him as much as i like Goldmane. All of goldmane's abilities are worth while, Vengeant has 2 good ones. Lagging a permanent can be useful, but only if the thing worth lagging, is already tapped. Though, if you dedicate all the subsequent turns to it, it never untaps. The big ability is really good, but takes a while to get to. the best is the Helix ability.
Um... weren't most of them useless already? The first two were the ones that actually saw normal activations and the last ones were the timmy fodder that occasionally got used during a regular match.
I like this card though, and I like the R/W of the card. Very cool.

Trash.. yeah right! Getting a one sided Armageddon does not sound like "Trash" to me, along with that a Lighting Helix and the first ability is pretty good to.
Trash.. yeah right! Getting a one sided Armageddon does not sound like "Trash" to me, along with that a Lighting Helix and the first ability is pretty good to.
It is when it doesnt happen till turn 7, giving them 3 turns to disrupt him. The helix is good yes, but how often are you really gonna get it up to the armageddon if your abusing the helix.
so the 'walkers will be based upon their respective shards allied colors. interesting
Well, this isn't true, since Sarkhan Vol is :symr::symg:. They don't share an ally. So, we can expect either one for each color pair or a more likely option of just having a few planeswalkers.
If you ever untap with him in play after his last ability, you win. But -7? His +1 ability is pretty decent, but starting with 3 loyalty is pretty hard. Garruk needed 1 turn to pretty say "I Win." Chandra had 5 loyalty, and thus never needed her last ability to be good. At least he can come into play and helix, then stick around hopefully to tap a blocker and do it again. Not too bad, but I'm not sold on it's playability.
It's no different than Chandra's and Liliana's. Basically wins the game if you ever hit a stalemate. I think it's a bit overcosted, because his first ability HELPS stall the game, and it's targetted. (though I think it's rubbish that they'll still be holding hands.... but if you can't win, then you don't deserve to win).
Lightning Helix is -2, because removal for creatures/players is tech, and the 3 life is just gravy. Compare to Chandra's -X removal. I'm sure he'll be used for his first and second ability almost exclusively.
As for him not being able to be in play with the other Ajani card: Umm. Of course not. Why would that make ANY sense? Legend rule man. It should work that way for ALL legends. Having two different Ertais in play is just stupid flavorfully.
This is one solid card, it doesn't matter if the 3rd ability is alright. The ability to lightning helix a dude and keep something troublesome tapped is sick. R/W Control is brewing.
After thinking about it, why in the world would you ever want to use the second ability? The first ability is hot, pacifying something big like Chameleon Colossus until you have the ability to use its last ability.
But let's be honest, Chandra's last ability is pretty devastating and it only took 3 turns to get to hers. Ajani Vengeant's takes... 5 turns to be able to activate the last ability, assuming he takes no damage or anything whatsoever. That's a little underwhelming.

There are many factors why for this particular release, the card would need to serve double duty.

Keep in mind it says 'target player'. If Ajani isn't somehow dead by the time you untap with him on 7 loyalty you're probably going to win.

1st ability is kill a creature until a different creature kills it for 4 mana, woohoo.
2nd ability is lightning helix every 3 turns for 4 mana, woohoo.
3rd ability is moot since the opponent will almost certainly kill ajani before 4 turns go by.
1st ajani was so much better.
This should never see competitive constructed play. I even doubt its casual applications.
