Looks like a prime new beatstick for reanimator decks.

you can generally tell the easiest road to victory by how many players congregate on it; and the road of counterspells/control has been the freeway of choice in magic for quite some time.

What I find offensive is not that Wizards is endeavoring to make the game more accessible, but the attitudes of elitists who act as though no one of any age should show their face in the Magic public without first having mastery over the complexities of the game.
Since when does green get huge flyers? Oh, wait, it isn't hybrid... Yeah, seems plausible, but that mana cost is ugly, and it's nothing but a french vanilla. Could be much more interesting.
You guys realize we are talking about a Dragon here, right? You know, the one creature type that is 95% Timmy?
No, I don't expect it to be hitting the tournament tables everywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if it did, though, because it would win the late-game single-handedly because it is pretty freaking huge. Not the best Spike card ever, but it should have Timmies everywhere salivating--again, because it is pretty freaking huge.

Hmm, I'm confused now, because in the article where they talked about FTV more openly they said there was one card that had reminder text and figured that to be hellkite overlord since that was the only thing that could have something new, but here as you can see there is no new mechanic..........................then what has the reminder text?

That's a good question. Off the top of my head, my guess would be Mist Dragon. Phasing needs reminder text because it's enough of a rules headache to warrant it.

I'm not too surprised about hellkite overlord, "the most powerful dragon ever" meant to me that it's one of the biggest. That said, I bet it's going to be pretty cool for casual players & reanimation decks. The art isn't bad either.
Maybe all the cards in Alara (or maybe only the gold ones) have reminder text about them being in their shards. Didn't they do that for Ravinica? With all the hybrid symbols?
I really hope this isn't the card 100%, when they said good, I really thought they meant good. This guy's alright, an 8/8 for 8 with haste, firebreathing, and regen...but I mean how often are you going to be able to cast him? I guess you could reanimate him and it'd be cool, but post rotation, unless we have Zombify or the likes reprinted in SoA, we'll only have Doomed Necromancer and Mannequin as turn 4 reanimators

You left out Trample and Firebreathing... Trample's VERY important on an 8/8 beatstick.
Seriously though, this guy is black, so terror and ilk don't phase him. He's 8/8 with haste, trample, and firebreathing for 8 mana. There is the option of reanimation as well, and if we get a good U/B reanimator deck going with Thirst for Knowledge, this guy would probably be one of your best choices in standard for a finisher.

He's also green which protects him from that new terror, Soul Reap.
lol Draco is still bigger. I wonder why that e-mail said the most powerful dragon.........I mean sure he has a really big impact but thats a lot to boast about.
First off, I'm a spike, just to get this out there. The card quality of this card is very high. It's about as good as I can hope to get for 8cc. Think about it, you have haste and trample on an 8/8 that also has firebreathing. Then you throw in regen so it can't be destroyed by most instant speed removal. You're basically looking at gg if your opponent dosn't kill it on their turn, and even if they do you still got a swing in. It's somewhat a dissapointment as no one will be throwing this into there red deck, but I think it will see some play somewhere.

Hellkite Overlord
RRGB4
Flying, trample, haste
R: gets +1/+0 until eot
BG: Regenerate.
Edit: 8/8
And agree, very boring. Very Invasion-style gold :/
Can't really judge the card without it
Curses...Sarnath
But interesting to see a wedge creature for the Red shard.
Twitter
It gives Oath decks a turn quicker clock, but mostly it seems they play just Tyrant now anyhow.
I can't imagine anyone hardcasting this.

So this must be a Jund creature then.

No clue. Maybe if Kilnmouth Dragon is included...?

I think it's cool. Even in tourney play, I'd regularly hit 8 mana. Come on, 8 straight to the dome? As a x1 he could go into a deck.
BTW: He is Summoner's Pact-able.
